The North Korean will be shorter, skinnier, having a weight comparatively lower than what the South Korean counterpart would have, thanks to the poor nutrition that North suffers from.Now under a hypothetical scenario where both nations combine, the stresses on South Korea will be huge.All of a sudden you have people who have no idea what is World Wide Web coming face to face with people who have the fastest internet speeds in the world.All of a sudden you have people who cook food by using firewood coming in contact with those using microwave ovens.All of a sudden you have people who probably spent time playing on empty roads, getting to see roads over which even taking a two-wheeler is a risky thing.Basically, it will be like two different generations coming in contact.While supporters of unification on both sides might like it (assuming that somehow the unification happens with South being in-charge), a year later the same supporters of unification would begin to call North Koreans as freeloaders and a burden on South. Similarly the ones in North would began demanding everything that South has, and since North Koreans are taught in a fanatical manner that Korean race is in some manners the purest of all (yeah , this is a propaganda of Juche) rest is assumed that they will also declare South Koreans as “outsiders” or “impure”, simply because they aren’t from North.Results?People hurling racial abuses on each other, next to no respect for one-another. A perfect ground for riots, arson, demonstrations, and if some powerful nations decide to pump in money and arms, a civil war is in waiting. The nation known for Samsung, LG and Hyundai would become known for policy paralysis, mistrust, civil strife and arson.So basically, Koreans may get an entire peninsula for themselves, but at cost of their law and order, economy, lifestyle and well almost everything.Do you know that even after unification of Germany, the country had a seriously hard time to somehow make sure that the minds of the people and the economy matches? But then East Germany despite being under a totalitarian communist rule, wasn’t I guess that much in shit as North Korea is in now. The cost of uniting North and South Korea, if done suddenly, would spell a disaster. Question of developing nation or developed nation wouldn’t even arise when the entire nation is literally on fire.In another scenario, in my opinion, even before the unification is attempted,the regime of North Korea needs to be toppled and replaced by those who has vision to turn it into like South Korea to some extent, if not completely. The process will be severely slow and cumbersome, and there is no guarantee that the new ones who suddenly get to hold power will be ready to surrender it in order for a reunification. Now for sake of argument if they are all ready to quit later and forge their country as one, then again there will be a question of mutual respect, on who deserves more and who doesn’t.So basically, nothing seems to come out of the whole thing, except more conflicts.Thanks for reading.
