At a quick glance, this appears to be a typical, rather bad, picture of someone placing a loving hand on a beloved dog. It’s much more than that.This is a photo of Fritz. Fritz was Karen’s dog until she died. When she knew she was not going to survive brain cancer, she asked my parents to take Fritz into their home. And, when the time came, Fritz became my parent’s dog.Fritz lived with my parents for the next 5 years. Fritz was the embodiment of Karen. They loved Fritz as though he was their lost daughter.Often, dad would sit in his chair with Fritz laying beside him as you see in this photo. Sometimes dad just placed his comforting hand on Fritz Other times, Fritz laid on his back and they held “hands”. It was a touching sight.Every week or two, they’d call their granddaughter who happened to be a veterinarian and talk through some small worry they had about Fritz. My niece was great. She reassuringly talked them off their mountain of fear. They always hung up feeling just a little better.My father suffered a stroke then mother suffered several. As the months and years drifted by, their minds slid then slid further still until that day came when they could no longer function at home.Mother refused help from anyone. It was part of the dementia that made it difficult. She ate tea and toast for breakfast and Death by Chocolate ice cream the rest of the day. Death by Chocolate was a good name for it, because over the course of two years, mother lost 30 pounds.But, if they were to be resettled in an assisted care facility, what was to become of Fritz? Fritz was the glue that kept them going. He was the one constant in their, otherwise, joyless life. They may forget what day, week, year, season it was, but they never forgot to care for Fritz.We children hovered and angst and pondered this impossible issue. My parents and then there was Fritz, our sister’s dog.When it could be put off no longer, my parents agreed to go to the assisted care facility. As soon as we left the house, they completely forgot the agreement, even though my brother wrote the date on the calendar and circled it in red.Karen’s daughter came to pick up Fritz. He would live with her now. She loved him and he quickly made friends with the other pets.It was heartbreaking to watch my parents suffer as Fritz left their house. I was the only child there when that happened. I sat at the kitchen table while my parents suffered in their bedroom. The prevailing thought that repeated in my brain was this. “Why didn’t we just let them die at home? At least they’d die with Fritz.”We could have done that but their doctor wouldn’t allow it.Well, that’s the end of the story. The following day, we moved them into assisted care. Within a week, their “blessed” dementia allowed them to forget all about Fritz. Sadly, we children never forgot nor did we forgive ourselves.

CPS probably wouldn’t even take a report on this issue. First off, it is not endangering a child. Second, the “incident in question” was at a school not a home. CPS only investigates abuse/neglect in the home.The parents could contact the child care facility first and kindly request that their child’s photo be taken down. The facility might just agree. If the child care facility refused, the parents could contact an attorney, however I would not be surprised if the enrollment paperwork included an agreement that allows the child care facility to use the child’s picture.

Their house, their rules. Your parents do not have any legal responsibility to let you stay in their house, nor do they have to share any of the burden for raising your child. If you are leaving without your child, then you are using them as baby sitter.If you have to work in order to make ends meet, then you and your parents should come to an agreement for fair compensation for watching your kid, or find another baby sitter or child care facility.Sounds like you made a mistake, and there are consequences for your decision. It doesn’t mean you can’t raise your child right, but it will take a lot of sacrifices on your part. I know it’s tough when your friends are going to school, attending parties, and working. But when you decided to have the baby, did you think your life was ever going to be the same? I feel bad because you will lose out on much of your youthful years and doing the things that a typical 18 year old person should be doing. But remember, this was your decision and you have to live with it. You made the decision forego your youth and join the adulthood, so act like an adult.
