This allows them to argue that the British murder rate must "really" be higher than the data suggests, and (they insinuate) the UK government is fiddling the figures to hide the supposed "fact" that gun control doesn't work.The linked Parliamentary memorandum from 17 years ago is frequently produced as the 'smoking gun' evidence of this claim. Unfortunately, it falls short. As the memo itself states, the published statistics already include both sets of data: the 'raw' data which includes various suicides and killing in self-defence, and the 'adjusted' data which removes those to account solely for murders, manslaughter and infanticide.For example, in England and Wales in 2015 the police initially recorded 530 suspicious deaths as homicide. Twelve of these cases were subsequently removed from the list: as the death turned out to be suicide rather than murder, or the killing was proven in court to be done out of self-defence and was thus legal; or because the charge was reduced in court from homicide to a lesser offence. That results in the 'official' homicide figure for 2015 being 518 cases.This procedure does not appear to be any different to the FBI methodology. I guess you have not read my blog post about my investigation of gun control laws in England & Wales and what happened to violent crime rates?You seem to assume — without looking at any facts — that the net effect of gun control laws in the UK was of net benefit to the public. It was not at all.All this is based on British National Statistics from the below two sites.Historical crime data ( Uk national Statistics)They have data on violent crimes reported to police from 1898 till now. I discuss some issues I have with how the they changed means of recording data in 1967 & 1998.England and Wales Population Estimates 1838 to 2014 (Also UK national statistics)I took this data and references as to dates of UK gun control laws, and plotted and analyzed it.The basic theory of the gun control/ gun ban movement is that private ownership of firearms results in higher levels of violent crime. My basic idea was to test this assumption.Take say 30 years of data, 15 years before, 15 after, if the gun ban theory was right, we ought to see evidence of improvement (reduction) in violent crime rates. If you do not, then really with no evidence to back up your belief, you should not make such laws.Nor should you be allowed to tweak the data. In my case I took four types of violent crime recorded by police in England & Wales, and see what happened. The now common practice of manipulation of data to subtract non-gun crimes from all crimes (“gun crime”, “gun violence”, that sort).As it so happened, I did not expect to see what I did after graphing the data and doing the analysis.
