I received this message yesterday and it not only made my day, but it will probably make my life, and I hope it will make yours too. All the men here, do read -Okay so here’s the reason why she texted me this:On that day , after receiving an important mail, I reached the train station with unpacked luggage and saw that the train was about to leave. Somehow, I was able to enter the last General Compartment of the Super fast Express Train.There was no space to stand or breathe, and people settled into every little inch that they could find. They even occupied the washrooms and the floor.Why our Government doesn’t focus on improving public places with better infrastructure and make it more comfortable/luxurious?And no, poor people do not need bullet trains to travel. They just need some enhancement in these public places.I decided to wait for the train to reach the next station, so that I could enter in the reserved compartment. With much difficulty, I found a comfortable spot beside the door of the train.From a tiny space between people’s torso and the shoulder gap who were standing, I saw a girl seated on a berth with 2 middle-aged-looking-men on either side. I had this gut feeling that something was wrong, so I tried to move closer to that compartment to see what was going on, but because of the jam packed space, I couldn't get a clearer view.With very little viewing space, I tried to see what was happening and I saw that the girl was very uncomfortable while trying hard to move her hand and there was an expression of grave worry and depression on her face.Now, that it was confirmed that something was wrong, I didn't mind risking leaving my luggage at the door as I forced my way into the compartment where she was seated.When I got closer, I was shocked to see that she was the only girl sitting in that compartment and these fucking people were touching her inappropriately. I was confused and wondered as to why this girl was not saying anything. If it couldn't get any worse, another man who was sleeping under that berth was trying to touch her leg and the man beside her wasn’t giving her enough space.I was alone and I knew I was no match to those men who didn't look decent and were mostly drunk with pungent smell. Knowing that I couldn't take them down by myself, I thought of a trick and didn't waste another second. I mustered courage and walked in their direction and said to the girl “Hey! Chalo seat mil gayi hai waha!” (= hey, come with me, I've found seat there!)(She looked confused shocked and yet again she didn’t say anything.)I repeated while offering her my hand, “Lets go”. She suddenly raised her left hand and gave it to me while those sleazy men looked confused. I tried my best to make her comfortable while making some space for her to stand near my luggage.I still wondered why she wasn’t speaking, and then I realized that her right hand was idle with no movement (She couldn’t use it). Because she was still silent, I was worried if she was in shock. When the train reached the station she gestured to me that she was going to get off at the coming station.That is when it suddenly dawned upon me, after seeing her use her hand to communicate, that she couldn't speak (God's special girl) and that is why she didn't raise her voice against those sleazy perpetrators . My heart stopped for a moment when I understood why she was behaving so timid and silent. Through teary eyes, she expressed gratitude and asked for my number while pointing to my phone. I kept silent but agreed after she asked again by using her only working hand. So, I wrote my number on a piece of paper and she quickly darted for the door without saying another word.I was thinking about what I was able to save that day - her soul or the little respect that is left for men on Earth.While it was a disturbing experience, I decided to forget everything. The next day in the evening I received a text from an unknown number on Whatsapp (the screenshot that you saw above.)May be I’m strong, may be I'm not, I don’t know, but that last line about her infant baby made me crumble.This screenshot is not only a text message, it’s a slap on the face of men like the ones in the compartment who forgot that there are good people that exist and they will help others.She requested that I shouldn't share anything with anyone and I don’t believe in sharing about that day here, but I did this for a reason (without names or details to identify who it is). I shared this because this needed to be told, because we men need to stand up, and also because I wanted to speak on behalf of someone who couldn't speak.It doesn't cost you anything to help others. You never know who is waiting in the dark, waiting for your hand to pull them up towards the light.Edit 1. I got there the boring way.I'm 36. I'm an engineer, still making just shy of six figures, with a starting salary of under half what I now make. If there is a secret, it is that I am a really good saver.I'm only barely qualified to answer. My net worth today has partly to do with rising housing prices where I live, but to glance at my entire balance sheet today (including a housing price estimate of which I'm skeptical), I am a millionaire as of last month. I don't plan on selling the house anytime soon, so it doesn't really matter what it's supposedly worth this month. It does help to have purchased a house in a good neighborhood 10 years ago, which is to say, at age 25.I wish I could say I was a great investor, but I'm not much of an investor, at all. On the other hand, the proverbial mattress, and the real house it's in, have been pretty good places to have my savings in the past few years.I spend very little, and have no debt other than my mortgage, which I'm aiming to pay off well ahead of schedule, even though I live in a high-priced area. I use my credit card sparingly and pay it off each month.I do have a 401(k) through work, and I put a decent amount into it, but not all my savings are in it. I continue to save more outside of it than in it. I do like the tax advantage, but I trust myself to save money without its being stashed away until someone else deems me old enough to retire. I hope to retire long before I attain any sort of usual or official retirement age, but I doubt I will spend my retirement doing nothing.I sweep my own floors, mow my own lawn, and occasionally take on larger improvement and repair projects. Between that sort of thing and putting more miles on my bicycle last summer than on my 2004 car, I don't see much point in paying to join a gym.I mostly cook for myself at home, and eat out perhaps 2-4 times per month. My leftover bag lunches are often the envy of my coworkers. My food spending typically comes in under $200 per month, sometimes well under.My hobbies and entertainment also cost little or nothing. Many even save money, such as bicycling, cooking, and gardening.Before I conclude my boring answer, I'd like to point out that there is good news here for anyone who is not yet "qualified" to answer. No magic, super powers, amazing luck, or hotshot business prowess is necessary to save money. Just resourcefulness and reserve in spending. Live below your means, however modest, avoid debt, and little numbers will gradually add up to bigger numbers. It matters little whether or not they someday surpass some arbitrary threshhold such as the one this question is about, because if you are skilled at living on less money, you will need less money to accomplish most anything you choose to do.If you'd like to identify a freshly-made, anonymous millionaire, I'll be the one not out celebrating with an expensive meal in a fancy restaurant. Perhaps I'll plant a fruit tree, or shore up a leaning fence post, instead.

Serendipity.First of all, look at it. It's such a beautiful word.The etymology does not come from Latin or Greek. Through a Google search I learned that a man named Horace Walpole derived it from The Three Princes of Serendip, a fairy tale in which the heroes "were always making discoveries, by accident or sagacity, of things they were not in quest of."According to the Webster Dictionary, serendipity is defined as the phenomenon through which you find something wonderful that you were not looking for; discovering something amazing by chance.While luck is more democratic, serendipity seems to be reserved for a particular kind of person: perhaps one who is receptive to something unexpected.You have to start out by being open to the notion that anything is possible.I believe there are a few things we do that affect serendipity - things that reduce our chances of happening upon something delightful.Overbooking or overplanning. If you leave nothing to chance, you shut out serendipity.Being constantly in a rush. Serendipity needs time to play.Constantly looking at your phone. Our destiny often shows up in the form of serendipity. A chance encounter in the street. A glance in a café.I wonder how many things we are passing by that are supposed to be happening; what we are doing to the fabric of our fate by never looking up from our mobile devices.
