Don't float away towards porn.Anyway, the term you want to focus on is PROCRASTINATION. I find this your only and major problem. Everything else, every other problem is a child problem of this major one, and will fade away, when you resist temptations. First of all, with exception of the Bible and some really popular books like Shakespeare, the majority of the published titles are out of print at one point or another. A lot of obscure books are no longer published (the reason rare books are a thing). Sooner or later, racist or not, some of the more obscure Dr. Seuss books will most likely stop printing. So this isn’t some “liberal conspiracy”.Secondly, current (already printed) books are still in circulation. So no, despite what Fox news tells you, nobody is burning books at street corners.Three, the decision came from the IP owner, Dr. Seuss Enterprises. Most likely because the IP owner does not want to associate Dr. Seuss’s wholesome brand with racism. It’s a reasonable business decision. Hugo Boss also made Nazi uniforms, I bet you won’t find those on their corporate website.Four, Dr. Seuss wrote more than 60 books. Is there anything special in these discontinued 6 books that you can’t find in other Dr. Seuss books? I don’t think so. Does discontinuing these books diminish Dr. Seuss’s brilliance and his contribution to children’s books? Most definitely not. So what’s the harm?Five, In general, I think we should not ban problematic materials, but instead, we should adopt a new, more comprehensive, critical way to discuss these media. Like what HBO did with Gone with the Wind, it’s still there, but with a disclaimer about its racist content and the Lost Cause rhetoric. That’s why I think The 1619 Project is more important than simply ignoring the problematic materials.… what do you mean conservatives hate that too? Not to me, but to my dad…Dad was about 55 at the time, he’d been having chest pains on and off and typical of stubborn old Irishman, he said ‘heartburn’ and ate Tums by the bottleful.One night, dad picked me up after Air Cadets at the high school… he was sweating and pale and holding his chest… I insisted that we go see Dr. Rees right then and there and I was not budging until we did…(Background - we lived on a farm outside a small town - population 3,000 or so, two doctors… Dr Rees had no secretary, front end of his house was his office - you came in, said “Who am I after?” and sat down…no appointments necessary.. BUT from spring to winter unless you were absolutely sure you were going to die, you did not bother him on Wednesday afternoon… that was his rose garden day and was sacred time for him…So it was about 930 when we got to his office, which was closed. I rang the bell (we all knew Dr Rees would answer the door even if it was 3 am.) and Dr. Rees came out, looked at dad, bundled him into the office and picked up the phone to call the hospital 20 miles away….I still recall the conversation almost verbatim…“Dr Rees here. I am sending Walter Maguire to the ER, possible cardiac, probably MCI. Get him into a room, get an IV into him, I will be there in an hour, he is leaving now….”pause“Listen, I don’t care that you have no beds in CCU, I don’t give a rat’s ass if you put him on an air matress in the broom closet, he’s coming, you’re going to get an IV into him, and stabilize him until I get there, and he damned well better still be breathing when I get there.”Dr Rees came out, looked at me (age 15), and said “know how to drive?” (Bear in mind we had no ambulance service, ambulance would have to come from the hospital that dad was going to…I told him ‘of course, I’m almost 16′ - Dr. Rees snorted, said ‘Ok, let’s get your dad into the car, you are going to drive to the OPP station (local cop shop) and they are going to take him to the hospital.”Sure enough, by the time I got the 6 blocks to the cop shop, the cruiser was there with lights flashing… two officers bundled dad into the back seat with me and away we went…. that car MOVED….Dad’s first night in CCU was on a gurney parked in front of the nurse’s station…I learned later from one of dad’s nurses that they lived in awe (and fear) of Dr. Rees… but the “I don’t give a rat’s ass if you put him on an air mattress…” and his arranging for a cop cruiser so quickly has stuck in my mind even 40 years later… I also learned later that had we waited for the ambulance, there was a great chance that my dad would not have lived that extra 17 years.Howard Judson Rees 1925 - 2010**EDIT**Wow, over 1000 upvotes… Dr. Rees would have grunted with “that’s nice, who’s next?”Here’s an interesting article about him…Dr. Rees moved to Chatham-Kent when he learned, through a travelling drug representative, that the Blenheim practice of Dr. John Watson Pickering was for sale. Dr. Rees purchased the practice, located at 7 Chatham Street S., and he moved to Blenheim in 1956. His mother Marjorie Rees, also moved to Blenheim to be his office nurse. She had graduated from the Toronto General Hospital School for Nurses in 1919. Dr. Rees continued to serve the Blenheim area as a family physician for forty years, until his retirement on March 12, 1996.Dr. Rees’ vision of supporting his community was realized by the creation of the Howard J. Rees Foundation in 1987. The foundation was established to support the arts, health and education in the Blenheim area. Since its inception, the foundation has provided academic scholarships, assisted in the expansion of the Gable Rees Rotary Pool in Blenheim, and made it possible for school-aged children to receive swimming lessons.In 1994, Dr. Rees was awarded a Lifetime Membership in the Ontario Medical Association. Dr. Rees was also recognized with the Glen Sawyer Service Award for his many years of dedication to the community and his profession in 2002.In 2008, through the support of the Howard J. Rees Foundation, the Chatham-Kent Physician Tribute Website was created (Chatham-Kent Physician Tribute). The goal of the website is to provide recognition of the many dedicated physicians who have served within Chatham-Kent.In his spare time, Dr. Rees enjoyed gardening, stamp collecting and travelling with his companion Joan Boyes.Dr. Rees died on the 9th of February, 2010. He was buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Blenheim.
