What are some tips for running a D&D game?

#1 rule, don’t overprepare and be able to wing it. So many DMs spend ridiculous amounts of time fleshing out quests that the players ignore or detailing areas of the world that they never visit.Understand that this is a cooperative story, not just a cooperative game. As a DM you create the world but don’t be afraid to let the players shape it, even when they take it in a direction you didn’t expect or desire.Find ways to say yes. You don’t want the players to totally run over you but try to accommodate what they want. After all, the game should be fun for everyone. I had a player who wanted to be some ridiculous racial template like a half-celestial. That template was really over-powered for 1st level and the level adjustment would have created issues at later levels. It also didn’t fit my low-magic setting at all. I talked to the player and discovered that was he really wanted was for his elf to have wings. So I took away one of his other racial abilities and gave him wings. Problem solved. One thing that took a while to learn: if something is required for the story to advance, do not attach a chance of failure to it. D&D includes rolls for just about everything. Some editions even had third party supplements to cover things like rolling to see if someone gets drunk or rolling to see if someone gets pregnant. But if something has to happen, don’t risk your entire plot on the roll of a die! It’s ok to make the characters try to search for something that might help them. When something is there that absolutely must be found or else everything stops, don’t roll, just give it to them (after they overcome whatever other challenges were in the way, of course).Only roll when failure matters. If a character has time to reroll a hundred times until he succeeds without any consequences, then just let him succeed. If failure is pretty trivial (sorry the cake you were baking was overcooked) don’t turn it into a combat encounter and waste an hour of gameplay on it.Never let the players attempt something if you don’t think it should happen. I’ve made the mistake a few times of laughing at some absurd proposal and saying “Yeah sure, you get one roll and it has to be a natural 20.” Players roll more natural 20s under those circumstances than at any other time in the campaign.Actions have consequences. Whatever the players do or don’t do should have an impact on the world around them. Let the world change according to their actions, not just continue on unchanged like a video game. Otherwise it starts to feel like their actions don’t matter, like all they are doing is maintaining the status quo. This also applies to areas outside of quests. If they dump a bunch of cheap weapons into a small village, they can expect to suddenly encounter a lot more armed NPCs. This could be good or bad.Always be prepared at the start of a session. I find computers to be immensely helpful with this but whatever works for you is fine. Just don’t make the players wait forever while you flip through your massive notebook trying to find the section that covers this little town.If for some reason you do need to take time out for set up (like getting out a map and minis if you like to use those for combat), then tell the players to take a break so that way they aren’t leaving to use the bathroom in the middle of their turns.Don’t emphasize things that aren’t important. If you spend 20 minutes describing the innkeeper, his mannerisms, his clothes, his establishment, etc., the players might assume that he is more than a throwaway generic NPC and will then spend the rest of the session trying to discover his “secrets” rather than just taking the quest he was trying to give them.Delegate. Let someone else handle the snacks. If an NPC is traveling as part of the party (whether a temporary ally or a hireling or whatever), give the sheet to one of the players and let them manage him in combat while you just focus on the roleplaying. You have enough on your plate as DM without taking on more work.Mediate the group dynamics if needed. Sometimes one player ends up taking charge and running everyone else’s character. Don’t let that happen. Keep everyone involved.

Where can I find the best mobile app RFP template?

Hi! This is a very good question. RFPs and the whole request for proposal process are obligatory to select a strategic IT partner, especially if you’re going to engage with them for more than one project.“How to Write An RFP and RFP Template for Software Development”Following this link you will be able to read detailed description on how to write professional RFP and download the 19 page RFP template document with recommendations and guidelines designed especially for software development project. As a custom software development company we are working with the dozens of RFPs each month, Existek has performed the study of how someone should approach writing the request. Here is the list of contents in this article:* What an RFP is, how it is used and why it is important* Who should write an RFP* RFP format for software development projects* What should be in an RFP for software development projects* Letter of InterestBelow will be some extractions from this material that I found to be suitable for your case considering that you’re selecting the partner for multiple long strategic engagements.WHAT SHOULD BE IN AN RFP FOR SOFTWARE PROJECTS?Introduction – In this section, you let the service providers know about your main goal. Why are you publishing or sending them a request for proposal and what do you want to accomplish by doing so? Give them the basic understanding of the required software solution, its main purpose and the challenges it must solve. Also, the introduction may include the deadline after which bids will no longer be accepted.Example: Company Name is the leading provider of electronic document management solutions for SMEs. We request a proposal for the development of custom character recognition software that will create digital copies of paper documents. The software must work with 99% accuracy and categorize the data in fields.Requirements – This is the hardest-to-complete section, and requires a significant amount of time and effort. Unsurprisingly, it defines the success of the vendors’ evaluation process. In the case of a software development RFP, this section is usually divided into subsections. Each explains the technical and functional specifications from different angles. In the given example, you’ll find a small piece of what should appear in the final document. For more details, see the instructions in the RFP template.Example: The solution should work on the optical character recognition technique with the following list of hardware: scanner model 1, scanner model 2, etc.Selection criteria – Obviously, you’ll write the request for proposal with some selection criteria in mind. Even if you haven’t completely shaped your criteria, some aspects of the project may affect the final decision more than others. For instance, if you’re a startup company, you will definitely look at the software development RFPs that present a lower price and a shorter time for the project kick-off. With respect to banking, references in the financial sphere and the reputation of the solution provider will be more important than cutting 10% of the costs. We advise that you not keep this only in your head. If some aspects worry you more than others, let the software development companies know. It’s a win-win approach because you’ll get more information about the details that actually matter to you while letting the providers present themselves with respect to the factors that are most relevant.Example: Please note that Company Name will select the provider, if any, taking into consideration the provider’s ability to start the project as close to the requested date as possible.Timelines – This section provides information about the timelines for the evaluation process. Here you should give the date after which responses to the request for proposal will no longer be accepted, the date when the Q&A session will be held, how much time your team will need to complete the evaluation and when the winner will be selected. Also, it is worth deciding whether you’ll notify software development service providers about which of them has been selected for the project and when to do that. If you’re making the request for a solution or integration with high complexity, give the developers sufficient time to respond to your request for proposal. This will help ensure that you receive accurate estimates.Example: Vendor’s evaluation process timelines: Request for proposal released – 11.30.2017; Notification of intent to bid – 12.10.2017; Deadline for questions – 12.12.2017; Q&A webinar session – 12.14.2017; Follow up to questions – 12.17.2017; Deadline for proposals – 12.22.2017; Finalists notified – 01.10.2018; Interview with finalists – 01.15 – 01.22.2018; Notification about the selected candidate – 02.01.2018.
