PDF Editor FAQ

Should I move to Chicago or Houston?

That’s like asking should I live where the winters are warm or where it’ll be hard getting out my drive in January. maybe in february or not see spring at all and summer is 2 weeks of humid heat. But if you like old culture and wonderful architecture and the best eating in the world - and friendly people. My pick is Chicago. Born in Austin raised in Chicago my money is always on Chicago - I love the lakefront and OldTown. Oh and not to forget Lincoln Park Zoo is perhaps the last free zoo in the country and has plenty of friends that keep it the nicest.I know…i gush!

What is it like to live in Phoenix, AZ?

I'm also a former New Yorker, and I spent 18 months in Phoenix. Here are my pros and cons.PROS:1) The Phoenix food scene is amazing, especially in Arcadia, which borders Scottsdale. The pizza and Mexican food are as good as anywhere in the country. There are a number of places that stress fresh ingredients, and farmers markets are plentiful. All of Sam Fox's restaurants are superb. Phoenix people love cocktails, and love outdoor dining, and you will find numerous places where you can relax over drinks. There's wonderful ice cream, too. And, a number of Chicago restaurants have opened branches there. You can eat in a different place every night for a month and have a great meal.2) The desert scenery is beautiful. Phoenix actually does have a change of seasons, although some people would say it's from warm to hot. Fall comes very late, and you get color in December, at the same time people are decorating for Christmas.3) Baseball. It's paradise for baseball fans, and it's possible to see a game from March through November. Spring training is delightful (be sure to ask for seats in the shade) and tickets to the Arizona Diamondbacks are cheap. In the fall, there's the Arizona Fall League, and you can walk right into any of the games and sit down front. Be sure to check out the Society of American Baseball Research, which has great programs.4) Sky Harbor International Airport is terrific. There are almost never any weather delays, except in monsoon season. You need to leave enough time to get through baggage, but if you can get to the airport 90 minutes before your flight, you can use the drive-through baggage check.CONS1) Guns. My favorite Starbucks put up a new video board, and a few days later someone leaned out of a pickup truck and shot it. You hear stories of gun violence all the time, especially in certain parts of Phoenix. And gun stores are everywhere. It's a psychic jolt.2) The heat. Yes, it's nice to get away from northern weather and enjoy 80F in February. It's less fun when the temperature goes above 90F in April and soars into the 100Fs in the summer. You have to stay hydrated, and one thing to remember is that air conditioning dehydrates you as much as the sun does.3) Lack of friendliness. Phoenix people are just like everybody else when you get to know them. But, you can't expect to have casual conversations on an elevator, in a bar or in a shop. People just aren't that interested in you. This is hard to get used to, if you come from a chatty place like NYC or Chicago.4) Size. Phoenix is enormous. There simply isn't density, and it means you spend a ton of time in your car. Light rail has linked Tempe and Phoenix, but if you're going somewhere that it doesn't serve, you'll basically have to drive.

What is Chicago like in winter? What are some things I should keep in mind?

Would it be too cold? Would I be able to explore the city? Should I go, should I not? These were my initial thoughts before visiting Chicago in February. Most people don’t consider Chicago as a winter holiday destination, and rightly so, who would like to freeze at a temperature that can give you a frostbite on slightest of exposure to wind-chills.Since mine was a business trip, I decide to give it a go, but as someone who has never experienced snow, I was really anxious.During my time in Chicago, which was right after Polar Vortex, I witnessed a city that looked like a charming bride in a spotless white gown.Imagine visiting a city so pristine where the snow shines like stars in the night sky. A winter wonderland where you could just simply stand and stare at the frozen beauty as the snowflakes settle on you. This photo was taken in front of the Adler Planetarium, it was snowing, but unfortunately my camera could not capture the falling beauty. The temperature was in minus, quite windy but the air was fresh and pure. It used to be chilly outside, but nice and warm inside. While I was there, the temperature went up till -16, it snowed, it rained but it was all bearable with three layers of winter wears and indoor heaters.Whoever I met, said, Chicago is a different city in summer, come back in summer when it is nice and warm. But I didn’t know what I didn’t know. Some things you should keep in mind if you are traveling:Carry warm clothes and learn to layer up. Keep warmers, jacket, overcoat, muffler, gloves and boots. Boots is a must, make sure you buy one with a good grip. Pack some dry fruits to munch whenever you feel cold.Air tickets are cheaper in winter so you can go Chicago and book any onward, warmer destination from thereFewer people with almost no tourists, there are no queues to tourist destinations or anywhere in general.Buy a Citypass, it costs $ 107 and you can enjoy five of the best destinations in a span of 9 days.Sale, sale everywhere. Making it a perfect time to shop.Heaters everywhere. Feeling too cold outside? Well, the best thing about Chicago is while you have brutal cold outside, inside it is always nice and warm. So if it is too cold outside you can always stay inside and enjoy indoor entertainments. And you can always make a snowman !
