Can I file an additional tax extension? You may, doesn’t mean you are going to get it. There use to be 2 extensions you could get. The first one was from April 15 thru August. Then the second extension was from August to October 15th. Now there is just one from April 15 thru October 15th. Remember that this is an extension to file, not to pay. Assuming you’re planing a northbound thruhike, I would recommend working backward from your anticipated pace. Katahdin is generally open through early October, but it gets increasingly chancy after that.A typical thru takes 4 - 6 months. My own pace, at age 59, was in the upper end of that range.Be aware that the AT in Georgia in the Spring gets a *lot* of use. Campsites and shelters are overcrowded, privies are in danger of overflowing. If you can possibly plan your hike so that it starts before March 1 or after April 15, you will probably be a happier camper, and the landscape will benefit as well. Alternatively, you could plan a flip flop so that you do the southern Appalachians later in the year.

Yet, many people think it disrespectful to challenge someone’s belief that there exists an invisible, all-powerful being who cares deeply about their daily conduct.
