PDF Editor FAQ

What would you include in your ideal kitchen, if money were no object?

I would like a drainboard:I would like it built into my sink, probably on the left side.I would like no little ridges between sink, countertop, and drainboard, and as few joints as possible. My ideal, I think, would be a concrete countertop, with the drainboard, sink, and sink surround all one piece. While we're at it, I'd like a built-in filter for drinking water, and one of those instant hot water spigots.I like the tiles on my backsplash, but the counter would be better off without cruddy grout to clean. The flooring could stay vinyl, for easy maintenance, but I'd like a better kind, and something that doesn't show every speck and splatter, and doesn't look like it's been through the war (as the current cheap stuff did before we ever moved in; the previous owners had two kids of their own, multiple foster children, and a large dog).To borrow a line from Noises Off, I'd like doors that open when they open, and close when they close. Currently, it varies with the seasons. When the ground is dry, one door on my kitchen won't open. When the ground is wet, the other doesn't close fully and latch. This, along with correcting a window that's sagging so the frame is no longer square, might well be the most costly part of renovating the kitchen I now have.I'd definitely go for soft-close cabinets and drawers, plus a turntable thing for that deep corner cabinet where things get lost in the back.I'd like a do-over on my fridge (which is otherwise excellent but has limited space, especially for taller things) and on my stove (several issues I didn't recognize when I first choose it, not least that the electronics in it are not adequately protected from heat or moisture). In practice, both will probably go for another 10 years or so.And if it were just me, I'd put all the counters down a couple inches lower than standard. It's not just me, however, but a certain husband, who's an equal user of the kitchen and stands 17″ taller than me. As such, I think we'll either need counters at two heights, or some kind of retractable platform I can stand on. I'm not sure any such thing exists, so this would need to be custom designed and built, and the counters raised to match.
