What is your take on Malayalam channels being banned by the government of India for their reporting on Delhi riots?

Thanks Aditya, Pravasi Meet, and User-9626170066251061235 for the questionWhat is your take on Malayalam channels being banned by the government of India for their reporting on Delhi riots?I thought to wait before writing an answer here as it was an evolving issue.Anyways, now its right time to answer.Let me first tell a JOKEand thisIndia drops down on World Press Freedom IndexNow we are ranking at 140th position out of 180th position. It seems the aim of the current government is to, get the prestigious 180th position and claim the first rank in inverse ranking!!!And banning Asianet News and Mediaone was first step towards that big goal of the government. Or infact, it was just a test-dose to see whether such an experimentation will work or not.During the Delhi Riots, almost all Malayalam Media were at ground to report the events LIVE.Asianet News Reporter- PR Sunil on Feb 25th 2020 was on the ground and made observations that horrify any people with human conscience. This was amplified during the Asianet New’s prime time show- NewsHour at 8 PM where the ground realities were revealed from the site. The full Newshour show is shown below with English Subtitles for benefit of non-MalayaleesThe key part was PR Sunil and his cameraman got trapped in Ashok Nagar and was standing on the Flyover which takes to Jaffrabad, one of the epicenter of Delhi RiotsHe cited how the mosque beside him was set fire that day morning and no fire-force or police came there for first 2 hours. When they came, they were turned back by the rioters. So as the vehicles were stopped at the exit of the flyovers and Muslim owned vehicles were set to fire. The most shocking incident was he was asked his religion and was allowed to be there only when he cited he was Hindu. The worst of all that was a Muslim Kid was wounded with bullets near his spine and no one was ready to take him to hospital. When Sunil and his team reached there, the locals requested to take the kid to hospital, but the taxi driver was threatened by radicals and he left the place stranding the news team and others there. Sunil called Police several times, yet no one came. Finally after a hour or two, he and other fellow journalists who were there, forcibly stopped a Police vehicle passing thro’ and forced them to take the wounded kid to the hospital. It took 5 hours for the kid to get a medical treatment after wounded, in one of the world’s Megapolis and India’s capital.Delhi riots: How Kerala TV channel reporter ‘sided’ with a boyFaizan is back to life. He is recovering slowly .. I have met him at GTB hospital icu.. he talked to me. His mom died long ago.and Dad left him. He is living with his relatives. Thank you all my media friends who helped to take him to hospital and save his life.. pic.twitter.com/vN95rvNoz8— P.R.SUNIL (@piyyarsunil) February 27, 2020PR Sunil was at ground to report the shocking events on Feb 25thIn all these reports, he mentioned how he and his team is being threaten with rioters carrying hammers, guns and other weapons with no police forces to clear such people around. And specifically the above things are SCHEDULED CRIMINAL OFFENCES committed by Asianet in New India, as per I&B ministry communiquehttps://drive.google.com/viewerng/viewer?url=https://www.livelaw.in/pdf_upload/pdf_upload-370996.pdfDetails of Final order of I&B highlighting the charges against Asianet News.Specific to Mediaone, the channel has detailed coverage with exclusive visual of Pro-CAA protestors vandalizing properties which their journalists took from roof-top.Apart from that, they done detailed interviews with locals who all claimed that these rioters were specifically cross-checking the religious identities of people before attacking. The Mediaone Journalist also reconfirmed that he too faced an attack, though escaped when the rioters came to know that he was a Muslim.Apart from this, in this report, Mediaone highlights how insensitive Delhi police was and how they refrained from supporting victims. They also criticized RSS later in that evening’s Prime Time news, when their Senior Editor- Nishad highlighted how RSS provides training in usage of Guns and swords in their camps.Reports with exclusive visuals of Rioters attacking propertiesVisuals of Mediaone Journalists and team being attacked by rioters after being identified that the journalist is Muslim.Mediaone Primetime News highlighting the Guns and swords training given by RSS in their camps. These acts of reporting Visuals of Vandalism by Rioters, coupled with questioning Delhi Police and RSS were the key crime committed by Mediaone, as per I&B CommuniqueDetails of the Order issued against MediaoneI need to applaud BJP Govt… They are more transparent these days. Instead of giving blatant excuses, the government were to the point. The highlight of Communiques of I&B were clear and sharp to the following points.Criticizing BJP is a crime in New IndiaAs a reporter, you are not supposed to report what you see. You need to report what Govt wishes to seeIf a Hindu does a crime, it must not be reported, untill a similar crime committed by Muslim as part of Balancing act.Its okay to report crimes of Muslim without a similar balancing techniqueCriticizing Delhi Police and Home ministry is a crime, as its headed by the Chanakya himself. Lese Majesty rules applyCriticizing RSS is a capital offence in New India. RSS is equivalent to position of Rajgurus for Chanakya and Supreme God, so criticizing Rajgurus is definitely an unpardonable crime. The ministry’s communique is very clear. It doesn’t matter whether you publish real or fake news. Infact Ministry has no complaint that Asianet and Mediaone published fake news as fake news are acceptable in New India. But if they publish real news, it must only be approved by I&B.Balancing act is a new theory for I&B. Its okay if you publish news like belowNewsance show that criticizes Mainstream Media’s extreme obsession with Hindutva NarrativesExamples of Balanced Act in Modern India- Aaj Tak’s coverstory titled- Janmabhoomi is ours, Ram is ours, from where Masjidwalas (Mosque goers) came in?Hindi news channel Aaj Tak under fire for spreading communal hatred over Ayodhya coverage, FIR filedExamples of Balanced reporting‘Where did these masjidwalahs come from?’: How TV channels covered the last day of Ayodhya in courtIf these above are supposed to be the STANDARDS OF NEW INDIA, Sorry, our Malayalam Media will not conform to these.Malayalam media in general is Left Liberal in nature. Almost all medias are leftist in nature. Currently there is only 2 Right-wing media houses in Malayalam- Amrita TV run by Mata Amrithanadamayi Mutt and Janam TV run by RSS/BJP. Out of this Amrita TV is not much into news etc, rather its primarily a GEC channel focused lot of spiritualism etc and hence never fits much into Sangh eco-system. Infact even its news are more center-rightist rather than pure Right ideology. So that means, there is only one newschannel that portrays BJP/RSS viewpoint- Janam TV which has very poor ratings and viewership (except during Sabarimala protest time).Generally the top 5 Malayalam channels are as followsAsianet News is Kerala’s most popular and most loved News channel which always ranks top. This is followed by normally by Manorama News and Mathrubhumi News (these 3 forms the big trio). After these big trio, the next set always fluctuates. Its between News 18 Kerala, Media One, News 24, Mangalam and Reporter (Reporter is almost dead by now). Then comes various mouthpiece news channels (owned by political parties) like Kairali News (CPM’s Channel), JaiHind (Congress Channel), Janam TV (BJP’s Channel), Jeevan TV (Catholic Church’s Channel), Amrita TV (Mutt Channel). The last set doesn’t rank big in News TRPs, as they only have their followers as key audience. Since CPM is the largest party, Kairali News do have an edge in the News rating, but never big enough to overtake the first two sets. Jaihind and Janam are always at bottom of pyramid while Jeevan TV is mostly in ICU.. Amrita is much popular in its entertainment section, not big in news.Out of this, Asianet News has a huge tradition. Its India’s second oldest Private Regional News service with a continuous history of last 25 years and heralded by most eminent journalists in India like Shashi Kumar, TNG, BRP Bhaskar etc and most of Kerala’s top journalists today are trained by Asianet.Asianet is generally known to be Center Left with a huge history of criticizing every party in Kerala. The channel played a key role in bringing out many Ministers in UDF, LDF etc and also exposed the corruption committed by BJP state committee members in MCI allotment of medical colleges. So it doesn’t go with any single party much. However the interesting part of Asianet News is that, its owned by BJP MP- Rajiv Chandrasekhar who is also the Vice-Chariman of NDA Kerala. So as Asianet News Network is the parent company of Arnab Goswami’s Republic News as well as Kannada’s Suvarna NewsBoth Republic TV and Suvarna News are extremely reputed for their extreme Right wing bias and almost seen as defacto BJP’s official news channels. However its parent channel in Malayalam, is an odd-man-out. Its deeply rooted in its Center Leftist ideology well groomed by legendary Chief Editor- Late TNG and current Chief Editor- MG Radhakrishnan. MG Radhakrishnan was one of the Editor-in-Chief and Head of News services of The Hindu, hence Asianet News maintains its news standards much akin to The Hindu standards. This paradox often irks BJP Kerala leaders. They feel, why Asianet News working much like Suvarna or Republic. However Rajeev Chandrashekar has given full editorial independence, thus he doesn’t interfere into the channel these days. He tried in 2016 to make Asianet News similar to Republic, but terribly backfired with resignation of many key journalists and fall of Ratings for a brief period etc. This is one key reason why BJP leaders and RSS often criticizes Asianet News and now worked to its short-term ban.Asianet News proved its credibility despite Rajeev Chandrashekar’s attempts at interferenceMediaone is definitely their key target, primarily because its a Muslim owned Channel. Media One is part of famous Madhyamam Group, one of the key media dailies in the state. Madhyamam is partly owned by Jamat-e-Islami Kerala- JIH Kerala. But JIH in Kerala is known for its Socialist Islam ideology (contrary to traditional Islam which majority of Muslims follows), thus their media aligns more closer to Qatar’s Al Jazeera kind of editorial viewpoint. And another policy of Madhyamam is its secular tradition, as they never appoint anyone to key positions just out of their religious identity of being Muslim. For example Media One’s Chief Editor is a Christian- the veteran CL Thomas, while its Senior Editor is Abhilash Mohan. The focus of Media one is much into Leftist viewpoint, contrary to Right wing. The combination of Left ideology and Muslim Management, makes Mediaone which often talks about dangers of Sangh Ideology and Hindutva made it as key enemy of BJP in Kerala. There was one more channel which were supposed to ban last dayNEWS 18 KERALANews 18 Keralam is part of Ambani’s New18 Corporation. Generally across India, News 18 channels are pro-BJP, but in Kerala, its one channel that is extremely LEFT, perhaps more left than CPM’s official channel- Kairali News. This is primarily because the channel is mostly run by former employees of Kairali News and Asianet, who were extremely committed to CPM’s ideology, thus the channel has taken a very strong Communist ideology more than Kairali News itself. In fact, its similar to Times Now editorial, but dedicated to the service of Pinarayi Vijayan instead of Modi. The channel has much more powerful reports on Delhi Riots that finger points towards RSS and Hindutva rioters in much stronger way.Infact as per many sources, the news channel was included along with Asianet and Mediaone to be banned, but since the current government is directly responsible and committed to Mukesh Ambani’s command, his channel was spared at the last minute. So its much clear, the ban was made becauseIt criticizes the current governmentIt refuses to lick the shoes as other mainstream Hindi/English Media doesA warning made to othersA test-dose to see how others would react to it.I don’t think Modi himself may be aware of the banning directly, though it can’t be over-ruled. But specifically this ban came mostly at instance of Kerala BJP leaders who always are constantly ridiculed, mocked and teased in public as well as majority of media. So it could be a possible to show the power of local BJP Leaders as we see Union Minister Muraleedharan justifying the ban when I&B Minister Javedkar was trying to downplay the ban issueAccording to Javedkar, the ban seems to be came without his awareness as well as PM. So its one reason to revoke quickly, while Muraleedharan kept on justifying the importance of ban.So this gap also shows, there could be multiple power centers in Delhi who took these decisions, which was quite unusual in nature as the communique came from IB without any prior information. The sole intention may be showing the power, typical to current leadership culture of BJP which believes in aggressive posturing and hostile attitude. But it didn’t work much out in Kerala with the journalists rising in protest and the public opinion going so much against BJP in a big way. Anyway, one thing is sure, the fascism is knocking at our gates too and we need to be extra careful to prevent its entry.Edit: I forgot to mention- the Ban was quickly revoked within 6 hours for Asianet and within 12 Hours for MediaOne.Banned Malayalam news channels back on air within hours, Centre claims ‘committed to press freedom’As per available information, Asianet News Network Chairman- Rajeev Chandrashekar intervened and I&B ministry revoked quickly. The Chief Editor- MG Radhakrishnan made it clear, they haven’t apologized at all and will not change the editorial line.Ban Imposed Under Pressure From Kerala BJP Leaders: Asianet News EditorThe ban is a recognition of our good journalism: Editor of Asianet News speaks to TNMMediaone launched an official protest soon and decided to take up to the court next morning, by the time the order was revoked.Flagrant Attack On Press Freedom: Media One's Editor After Ban On Channel

Is Germany most evil nation in the history of the world?

A short recount on some of the deeds of the greatest serial killer in the history of humanity, Germany.Hitler without the people who elected him was nothing. The guilt for the Holocaust is collective, including in it not only governments, institutions, companies and organizations prior, during and after the war to this day, and the German people, the most evil country, the most evil people in history. The millions of Germans with innocent blood (not from other fighting soldiers but from unarmed civilians) is still in their hands. The assassins went from the killing fields back to the fatherland into a society that wanted to forget their crimes, these their children, created laws in order to protect them and let them live happy longevous lives as if nothing had happened while their relatives (the sons of the millions of Germans that killed civilians, those in power positions and those anonymous to the public) covered up for them, protected them so they will never see trial for their crimes.Prof. Dr. Johannes SteinProf. Dr. Johannes Stein and SS member, Dean of the Medical Faculty (the most important division of the university) at the occupied (June 20 1940) Strasbourg University , to prove the German racial superiority over all others, decided, together with the Head of the University Anatomy Institute (where many cruel experiments with life humans were perpetrated, eg with mustard gas on prisioners from the nearby hard labor camp of Natzweiler-Struthof in the Volges mountains) Prof. Dr. August Hirt , to request on Nov. 2nd 1942, 89 jews from Auschwitz death camp. 86 prisoners arrived in August 1943 to Struthof (3 died on the way). On Aug. 11 1943, 29 women and 57 men were murdered by cyanide gas and then placed their bodies at the institute to get their squeletons and skulls, they were caught (after June 1944 - D-Day) in the middle, while dismembering the bodies (into formalin) in order to cover up for the crime and avoid identification.Prof. Dr. August HirtFurther viewing, in French:Prof. Niels Eugen HaagenProf. Otto BickenbachAll 86 victims had their numbers tattooed in their arms and were identified and today they rest at the Jewish cemetery at Strasbourg. In addition to the two professors above mentioned, also neurologist Niels Eugen Haagen perpetrated and forced experiments on prisoners. For that Haagen got 3 years in a labor camp and went back to business as usual to research at the Bundesforschungsanstalt of Tubingen. The fourth of this professors “gang” to also use humans against their will in experiment was Otto Bickenbach, a virologist, he tested gypsy Struthof prisoners on phosgene gas at the camp gas chamber from June to August 1944, he killed 4. Bickenbach, as Haagen, only got 3 years for this at hard labor camp, got amnesty on 1955 and released into normal society wing as lead doctor of the office of Siegburg, even got acquitted of any bad conduct in 1966 by the Cologne Honor Tribunal for the Health Professionals.Dr Stein’s pleasant family lifeThis is how the allies found the remains of the 86 victims of these professor’s experiments:70 years later the tattooed numbers of the victims led to their names and could finally rest in peace in the Strasbourg cemetery. You can read the history of the 86 victims here: The Courses of 86 LivesEven post WWII west Germany polls show the German people to still agree with Hitler and the Nazis.(From wikipedia)A majority, in the years 1945–49, stated National Socialism to have been a good idea but badly applied. In 1946, 6% of Germans said the Nuremberg trials had been unfair. In 1946, 37% in the US occupation zone said about the Holocaust that "the extermination of the Jews and Poles and other non-Aryans was necessary for the security of Germans."In 1946, 1 in 3 in the US occupation zone said that Jews should not have the same rights as those belonging to the Aryan race.In 1950, 1 in 3 said the Nuremberg trials had been unfair. In 1952, 37% said Germany was better off without the Jews.In 1952, 25% had a good opinion of Hitler.(End of wikipedia quote)Both the leaders and the people behind shared the same imperialistic dreams of the greater Germany, and Germany above everyone/everything. Only a people hungry for war and that considers others inferiors could be able of atrocities in such a scale against humanity, shading all other human caused atrocities. The Germans were blood thirsty after the results of the Great War in 1916 and their ego was hurt. Germans chose their leaders, the Nazi party won democratic elections, there was not revolution (Mao, Stalin) or coup d’etat (Franco) here. Germans passively witnessed the killings at best (and fully collaborated and or perpetrated them at worst) sending civilians to be murdered in the camps. They profited from this death industry by stealing from the victims anything these owned in a true Viking spirit (anything of value they had), where feeling guilty after dismembering a child’s body was considered a weakness. Those anonymous Germans (not Eichmann, Heydrich, Himmler and others), I am talking of the millions that never met the Nuremberg trials, that went back to their civil lives to take back the same positionsthey had during the war (See the “Braunbuch” and “Braunbuch DDR” on how prominent Nazis (10 million Germans had a Nazi Party member card, and we all know you dont have to own a physical card on your hands to be for any ideology, those with the cards were the fanatics) were back into society to occupy power positions, the two books together mentioned 2,800 Nazis from the millions that did came back), when they had the swastika in their jacket, those executives at Bayer, Volkswagen, those police chiefs of all those cities and towns that during the war were members of the SA, the Hitler youths, the Waffen SS, the Nazi party, the wehrmacht, all this people left no trace of their deeds, for they anihilated their victims leaving no witnesses of their crimes, all the hordes that sung the Horst-Wessel-Lied while the right arm saluted held high:“Clear the streets for the brown battalions,Clear the streets for the storm division!Millions are looking upon the swastika full of hope,…”Piles of defenseless civilians being starved and murdered for a greater Germany, the fatherland, justified.Experiments forced on innocent children were perpetrated by German SS doctors at concentration camps like Auschwitz, where 300 SS doctors betrayed the Hippocratic Oath, together with the other 38,000 Nazi Party doctors, justified.Mein Fuhrer: lead us to final victory!! We don't care about the small details of all those Jews you are transporting to the death camps and other undesirables.Hey Fuhrer, we tried to assassinate you but security was so tight, we never had a chance, I’m joking, we would never kill the one we chose to lead us.Empathy is the human feeling that make you feel other’s suffering as yours. In the picture a grandmother and grandchildren being order to march to the gas chamber to be murdered by the Germans right after arrival at Auschwitz. 1 million Jewish children never experienced German empathy even though their Jewish parents served Germany during WWI in greater numbers & receiving more medal vs the non Jewish German counterparts in proportion to the % of the population they represented.Germany today tries “to clean” the History books from these images, for official institutions don't want today to be represented by the third Reich atrocities, all and all Germany is now a really liberal and democratic society that has little to do with Hitlerian society. But this image represents, in the most powerful way, the legacy Germany left to humanity and for this Germany will be remembered the most, not by Nietzsche, Bach or engineering machines. The Catholic Church, collaborators of the evil Reich. Sorry, fathers, you lost my support already in the Inquisition, I’m not falling for you again now when you were part of the Nazi regime and later on helped falsify and give safe heavens for Nazi war criminals running away from justice, you were and are criminals as well.Oh how happy was Germany then, all smiles and clean from unwanted inferior races.Zum Kampfe steh'n wir alle schon bereit! (For the fight, we all stand prepared!)Schon flattern Hitlerfahnen über allen Straßen. (Already Hitler's banners fly over all streets.)Rolf Mengele (left) and Joseph Mengele (right) Auschwitz angel of death. Joseph Mengele was one of the 350 SS physicians to perform experiments on camps prisoners, only 20 of them will ever see justice). The son supported his father like the whole Mengele family, sending Joseph money on a monthly basis during 35 years of hiding. All the world authorities had an order of arrest on the Nazi criminal, that was of little concern to his son Rolf, now a lawyer in Munchen or to the rest of the family now on the agricultural machinery business. (Photo: Sao Paulo, Brazil, 1970’s)Mengele family today, business as usual, after they supported the German war criminal requested by authorities by sending money to Joseph Mengele for 35 years.Another (known to me) example of son protecting fugitive war crime father is the case of Aribert Heim, Dr. Death from Mauthausen and his also physician son Rudiger Heim, that together with Aribert sister (as well as the rest of his family) help the criminal during the 17 years he stayed in Egypt. The son visited his father several times in Cairo, checked he was not being followed, called his father from Italy (where Rudiger studied) from paid phones to avoid being tracked and falsified details (birth date) when the father’s supposed death came in 1992 in Cairo in order to keep Nazi hunters at bay, once again another great example of father-son loyalty till death (crimes, victims, law, that is all secondary to Rudiger Heim). Aribert changed his name in Egypt to Tarek Hussein Farid.Mauthausen Death camp (Austria) crematorium, hundreds of thousands incinerated after murderedAribert studying medicine (center)Aribert with the German butcher uniformAribert during his days at Bad Nauheim as a gynecologist, after the warAribert In Cairo, a couple of years before his alleged deathHis proud son Rudiger, also a physicianAribert Heim’s will money at the bank is still there, only after his death this money can be withdraw, thus, he is considered still alive.Further reading on the Heims: 1 , 2, 3Further watching on the Heims: HereThen:The hearts of the anonymous Germans were pumping “Es schau'n aufs Hakenkreuz voll Hoffnung schon Millionen”, the flags, the fidelity to the Fuhrer, the discipline, the Wehrmacht, the Hitler Youths, the denial of the atrocities, the casual joining the Waffen SS as a Wehrmacht foot soldier or Luftwaffe pilot to “clean” a village of Jews women and children, the blind obedience, one wonders why do we need to think and use our brains for, you have just to obey orders.Today:the “alte kameraden” still alive are proud of what they did, till the last of their bullets after shooting still-not-fully-formed Jews child’s skulls, they stand by it, they helped and help each other to escape justice for their crimes; they disguise, deceive, lie, as well as many of their family members. Those saying “leave the old people alone”, “they are old and were fulfilling orders”, they deserve to suffer as the victims did.The German institutions supported by the German voters trying to “clean” their history, rewriting it by saying “Hey, we were not alone, look at Mao and Stalin”The Neo Nazis, that are ready to fight for a 4th Reich.German Ministries employed former Nazis (further reading)This is the real evil, the foot soldiers that fully embraced all coming from their leaders.Be afraid of those standing on the side watching the crimes being perpetrated, those are the real EVIL, the silent masses. Now the Germans have back God on their side, for the West wanted to fight the reds cold war, so they needed the Nazi services for CIA, NASA, war machine effort and let us all forget about that innate value we are born with called Justice, for it has never been served in Nuremberg, what Germany and their collaborators concern, I will wait for the after live to see how those millions of German murderers are hung one by one.Neither Stalin nor Mao were as scientific, meticulously well organized and recorded documentation in their massacres of millions as the Germans. Mao and Stalin used annihilation to win their wars, the Germans at the end of the war, when this was known to be already almost lost, preferred to give priority to the death camps than to the war front effort. Mao and Stalin never said they were superior races and others need to be vanished from the face of the earth.“When the Second World WarCame to an endWe forgave the GermansAnd we were friendsThough they murdered six millionIn the ovens they friedThe Germans now tooHave God on their side”(Bob Dylan’s With God on their side)After the war Germany provided amnesty for almost everybody and protected the criminals with privacy laws preventing investigators to dig into the past of criminals of war.The memory of all the victims lives eternally in our minds. Not one crime is forgiven nor forgotten.NB 1 - Of all the millions of Germans above mentioned I exclude the communists, homosexuals, Jews, intermarriage people, deformed people, insane, gypsies, the children and a microscopic cluster of Germans that risked their life to save others. All the others were part of evil big time.NB 2 - there is no one German that fought under the Reich that considers himself responsible for anything, he was being told and ordered and many still think today it was the right thing to do. I guess Germans are bound to fall another third time, for this is what happens when you don’t learn from your mistakes.NB 3 – Germans had many millions of collaborators in Europe and beyond to help them carry out their crimes, they will also never be forgiven. May these never find peace.Further reading/watching:Caring Corrupted - The Killing Nurses of The Third Reich (2017) Cizik School of Nursing has created a REMI Platinum Award-winning documentary film that tells the grim cautionary tale of nurses who participated in the Holocaust and abandoned their professional ethics during the Nazi era [00:56:00]The Death Mills [Die Todesmuehlen] (1945) VideoSelling Murder: The killing films of the Third Reich Video

What has he done? Trump supporters stand in his claims of success as the best president, can you highlight what those successes actually are? With current facts? No "fake news", Biden failures or people making him look bad… Make him look good…

Since you asked…2017On January 23, President Trump reinstated and expanded the Mexico City Policy, which blocks funding for international organizations that perform or promote abortion. This new program is known as Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance (PLGHA), which now covers $8.8 billion in family planning and global health funds that go to organizations abroad (none of whom may perform or promote abortion). On February 22, the Department of Education, in conjunction with the Department of Justice (DOJ) rescinded President Obama's guidance that required public schools to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms and showers of their choice. On April 7, President Trump's nominee Neil Gorsuch was confirmed to the Supreme Court. Justice Gorsuch has already developed a reputation as an originalist who will rule the right way on religious liberty issues. Gorsuch is representative of President Trump's judicial nominees overall. On May 4, President Trump signed an Executive Order Promoting Free Speech and Religious Liberty (known as the "Religious Liberty Executive Order"), broadly setting forth religious liberty as a policy priority of the administration, and requiring all federal agencies to take action to protect it. The order also more specifically addressed conscience protections, forthcoming guidance from the DOJ, and religious liberty in the context of free speech. On August 25, President Trump announced changes to the Obama administration's Department of Defense (DOD) policy which had allowed military personnel to serve even if they openly self-identified as transgender. (A DOD study found the Obama administration's policy to be detrimental to military readiness, lethality, and unit cohesion.)On September 7, DOJ filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court defending the religious freedom rights of baker Jack Phillips in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission. This filing is representative of other actions defending religious freedom taking place throughout the Trump administration DOJ.On October 6, DOJ issued guidance and an implementing memo (as instructed by the Religious Liberty Executive Order) to all federal agencies explaining religious freedom law and how religious liberty must be protected. This guidance laid out a broad defense of religious liberty based on multiple statutes and provided each federal agency with guidelines for protecting religious liberty. Also on October 6, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) proposed two regulations to deal with the Obamacare "HHS contraceptive mandate"that had for years violated conscience and religious liberty.
