What is your take on the Willie McCoy situation when he got shot by the police?

Let’s dissect the situation.A man goes through a drive-thru and stops somewhere along the line. When people investigate, he’s slumped over in his seat, apparently unconscious or asleep. This is not normal behavior for someone driving a car, so a wellbeing check is requested of the Vallejo PD.Police arrive, and observe a possibly unconscious man, which is red flag number one. They also observe an unsecured handgun in McCoy’s lap. This is red flag number two, a huge one at that. Anyone carrying lawfully should know better than to have their firearm unsecured in their vehicle, especially in California. It’s against the law in California to carry a handgun in a vehicle unless it’s secure in a locked container or the vehicle’s trunk. The officers involved have stated that their intention was to open the door and remove the firearm before speaking to McCoy, removing most of the threat, but the door was locked and McCoy was unresponsive. It’s also worth noting that the vehicle was in drive at the time, which means that at any moment McCoy could have driven his car away, becoming a threat to the general public or police. At this point, police have every reason to feel a potential threat. McCoy has not responded to knocks on the door or window, or any police questions. He may be under the influence of drugs. Drugs and firearms are not a good combination. When McCoy finally woke up, he looked at the officers, and they gave him one command: Keep your hands up and visible. They gave him this command a few times, and instead of listening, the officers stated that he quickly reached for the gun in his lap.So, they fired upon him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene of investigation. All of the officers involved are currently on administrative leave pending the results of an investigation. It’s also worth noting that the firearm had an extended magazine loaded, and was reported stolen in Oregon recently, though this was discovered after the event. So; final verdict.McCoy fell unconscious in a vehicle put in drive, in a Taco Bell parking lot. This is an indication of possible drug usage.McCoy was in possession of an unsecured and loaded firearm in the lot, which was also marked as stolen. This makes him a possible threat to people around him, not the least of which are investigating officers. If McCoy did indeed reach for the firearm after being told to keep his hands up, this immediately makes him a threat to the officers, which requires neutralization. The moment he goes for the gun, the officers have every reason they need to shoot until the threat is stopped. The number of rounds do not matter, you shoot UNTIL THE THREAT IS GONE.McCoy was committing at least one crime already, and the gun is what brought his death.Did the police do the correct thing? If their narrative matches up with the truth, then yes.

What do you think about Donald Trump and his unsuccessful bid to change the election through fake claims of voter fraud?

This confirms what I’ve been saying about Trump since 2019, at least: that should Trump lose re-election, he will first claim voter fraud and then go berserk. It was an easy prediction to make. In 2017, Trump tried to claim that he’d actually won the popular vote but that California was full of illegal immigrants and so if you took away California, he won by a landslide. In other words, Trump cast doubt on the entire state of California just because a majority of Californians did not vote for him. More: Trump had won the election and still implied that blue states shouldn’t have their votes counted. If the Trump administration were a novel, then this would have been an example of foreshadowing. That is why I am not surprised that Trump has so far:tried to claim victory before the votes were countedtried to stop states from counting votesrefused to concede defeat once Biden had wonfalsely accused election officials in different states of stealing the electionallowed or ordered his puppets (sorry, officials) into claiming to be preparing for “the second Trump termrefused to cooperate with the President-ElectNo previous presidential candidate has ever refused to concede defeat once the courts rule against them. No previous incumbent in the White House has refused to cooperate with the transition of power.I am not surprised by any of this because Trump has been consistent in his contempt for America since taking office. As for Trump wanting to destroy everything before leaving, that’s not my opinion.Mary Trump says her uncle, President Trump, will spend the transition period 'breaking stuff' with 'vengeance'It’s Mary Trump’s opinion. It’s the opinion of someone who knows first-hand what they are talking about.

I slept with my teacher and got pregnant. I’m 17. What should I do?

I am a high school teacher in the state of California. My answer is based mostly on the laws I work under in CA but they are generally similar in most states of the US. If you are outside the US, most of my advice will still be of value, but the laws could be different.First, I agree with what others have said, do not tell the teacher. He violated his professional duty as a credentialed teacher.I want to make it very clear, it does not matter who initiate the sexual contact, you have no fault in this. You could have initiated it and pressured him until he gave in and you still are not at fault. I say this because if this ends up in a court trial, expect his defense to be you initiated the contact. The reason why it does not matter is teachers are held to a higher standard than the average person. We can lose our credential for minor offenses that demonstrate that we have poor character or made poor moral or ethical choices. It is difficult to describe what poor moral or ethical choices are but some teachers have lost their credentials for being recorded by parents having several drinks in a bar or working a second job at an adult entertainment establishment. The other issue is the teacher has power and authority over the student. The teacher provides the grade and can assign some disciplinary consequences as well as refer students to the administration for consideration for more severe disciplinary consequences. That is a lot of power over a student. Teachers can abuse that power and one way is to coerce students into sexual relationships. This is why most states have laws making it illegal for teachers to engage in any sort of sexual relationship with students, even if they are at or above the age of consent. Many Universities have the same rules. It does not matter if the student is or is not in the teacher’s classroom. If the student is a student in the district the teacher works for or is a minor below the age of consent, the teacher has to say no and walk away. If a teacher engages in a sexual relationship with the student the teacher will likely lose his or her credential and will likely face criminal prosecution.Do not worry what happens to the teacher. He knew the laws and the rules. In my state, teachers are required to be trained in these laws and review them every year at the beginning of the school year. We are also mandated to report any student who is being sexually abused even if the abuse is being done by another staff person. To make sure nobody gets even close to the line, we have a set of rules that have to be followed at all times that greatly reduce the possibility of false accusations. Teachers who fail to follow those will be warned several times and if they still do not get it, they will eventually be fired. My number 1 priority as a credentialed teacher is student safety.Your first step is to speak to a trusted adult. A school official needs to know so the investigation can start. It is a process that has to occur by the protocol that is already in place. The teacher does have due process rights. In this case, it will be hard for him to deny he did not / did have sex with a student, the pregnancy will be the proof. The absolute proof can be obtained through genetic testing. You need to talk to your school counselor, assistant principal, vice-principal, or principal. If your school has a school psychologist you could talk to that person. If your school has an SRO (School Resource Officer) that you feel comfortable talking to, you can talk to that person. If you have a trusted teacher you can talk to, tell that teacher but make sure that teacher does report it and gets you help.At my school, when a student reports something like this to a teacher, the teacher calls the office to get someone to cover the class and the teacher takes the student to the office to walk the student through the process. Not all schools do this. You will need lots of support to figure out what to do and what is next. You do need to get to an OB to start prenatal care. Pregnancy places extra stress on your body. Your baby needs to be monitored. My wife and I had our son while we were in our early 30s and we both had jobs. It was still stressful but we coped because we had some experience and lots of support. You are 17 and you are still trying to figure life out. Raising a child is not easy and you need all the help you can get if you decide to keep your child.Realize that the teacher has probably done this before. He needs to be reported. I became a teacher because I enjoy working with teenagers. I would be banned from Quora if I wrote what I would like to do to any teacher who slept with his or her students. Teachers are supposed to be professional enough to not do that. I treat every student as if they were my sons or daughters. Please, tell someone at school. Let the district handle the investigation into the teacher. Do not feel guilty about that. If they seem to drop the ball on it, file a report with your local police, or child protective services. They will do something. Then focus on you. Your school counselor should be able to connect you with services and other help you will need. Your counselor can help you break the news to your parents.Your parents may not be happy and may be very upset, but they love you and hopefully will help you deal with this with lots of love and little to no yelling.
