I just finished a course on Machine Learning and I loved it. The text we used was this one: Machine Learning textbook. (I won't say whether or not there are PDF's around the internet.) I believe it is sort of a quintessential beginners book, or so I've been told. We also used a lot of supplemental texts and hand outs as well, for instance, for Genetic Programming: GP_1_Book and for Reinforcement Learning: Reinforcement Learning: An Introduction.Assuming you have a background in CS: If you want to get your hands dirty right away, I would suggest reading chapter 1 and then chapter 4 of Mitchell (the first book), to get a decent primer on artificial neural networks. (I think ANNs are a fun place to start).Then use the the data sets here: UCI Machine Learning Repository: Data Sets and create a project for yourself. We did letter classification using the artificial characters data set. (They give you the characters as line segments, but it's easier to read them as pixelated images, and if you'd like the altered files I have I'd be happy to send them to you.)I'm not going to lie at first when I started I just used the algorithm straight out of the book and implemented it immediately, but if take some time to understand everything (which I did later), It is awesome and very satisfying. My answer assumes you have this background already. (Not to say you couldn't do it without all of those things, they just make it much easier.)

They Cheated the PublicThey always cheat the Public. Those who dont will eventually end up cheating the Public.Micromax and Lava and Karbonn came up to provide the Middle Class man with Smartphones, those who could not pay Rs. 45,000/- for the Iphone 4 or Rs. 38,000/- for the Samsung Equivalent.At Rs. 15,000/- , Many people rushed to purchase Micromax Phones or Lava Phones. They were cheaper.However the phones simply malfunctioned. Videos of the Micromax Assembling Unit shows people not using the Global Air Filters to keep away dust and Standard S5 Chipfitters to fit the chip on the Phones Motherboard (Technical Terms..so apologies for any mistakes..) and instead using Inferior Air Filters (Which are 50% cheaper) and literally using Mechanical Fitting - a Guy wearing gloves taking a square plastic piece and pressing on the chips.The Result is Hanging up repeatedly while charging, Within 2 - 3 months RAM malfunctions, Press on an App and it simply hangs and you need to re-start the phone again. In short - the Micromax Smart Phone was simply an ordinary phone and the Makers - Blamed the 3G Providers.Even though Airtel serviced Iphones provided much better services and Airtel serviced Micromax simply conked out and the Owner - kept playing the Indian Card and the Cheap card.They survived for a while - but once Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and other brands bounced in - they were wiped out.For a Cheaper Price, you could get a 80% Iphone Quality phone with excellent features. Micromax could simply not compete with these phones and soon folded. Their market share of 30.3% in 2015 has dipped to 3.6% in 2019 while Lava barely has 1% market share today. Today surprisingly it is the Samsung which has a 19.1% market share followed by Oppo 17.6% followed by One Plus which has 14.3% followed by Huawei 10.9% and finally the Vivo with 9% - a Total of 51.8% market share by Chinese Phones in the Smartphone segment.Moral of the StoryManufacture good quality products following Industrial Specs followed in Industry. Dont cut costs.And dont pay Rs. 47 Crore to MS Dhoni to endorse your phone. If your phone is top quality, people will flock for it by word of mouth alone.
