What is the height of confidence?

We have all seen the movie- Dangal, right?Well, the onscreen role of Geeta Phogat (who won India's first ever gold medal in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games in 2010) was offered to Pooja Dhanda of Hisar, Haryana.Pooja Dhanda is also a wrestling player and had won the national championship back then.Back in 2014, Aamir Khan while visiting her training Camp, offered an audition for the role of Geeta Phogat (her contemporary). She was suffering from a knee injury at that time and was in a desperate need of money. Her parents were also struggling with financial problems.Nevertheless, She declined and the role went to Fatima. She said,"Why should I play the role of my competition? I prefer writing my own story.I will make my own story so big, that someone else have to audition to portray me on screen"We haven't seen Pooja Dhanda’s film but she proved herself in 2018.In Commonwealth Games Selections 2018, She beat the real-life Dangal Girl by 7–0.All eyes were on her. Mine was at her confidence level.🤼‍♀️

Why didn't the polish Lithuanian commonwealth survive? How did it fall?

It did not survive because it’s rulers, meaning the enfranchised citizens (some 10+% of the population) did not care effectively for it. Many did not care at all.The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth final fall came in a military fight against invading Russia and Prussia, 1794/95. We were weaker, they were stronger. Not that complicated.Obviously the “why?” question was and is hotly debated ever since in Poland. An easy answer is “them ugly Russians and Prussians”, and it is partly true, those countries conquered the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth through military force, threat of force and/or various other nasty actions. But constructive conclusions come from analyzing what went wrong inside the Commonwealth. The “we had bad neighbors” conclusion does not bring anything practical of use. So since the first half of 19th century “them bad neighbors” is not an explanation put forward by the Polish historians or schools that much. The problem was that the Commonwealth was a democratic (for the time cutting edge democratic) state. This worked tremendously well in 16th and part of 17th century. To compete, as a state, in the 18th century the amount of information, education and incentives effectively possessed by the enfranchised citizens had to be higher. Lacking that, in the 18th century the Commonwealth citizenry were making one electoral or voting blunder after the other, making the whole state finally weak enough, many dimensions, to yield militarily to the neighbors. It took a century to gradually rot, but finally it rot enough to be easily conquered.I do not want to make this answer too long. It is fascinating to study the feedback loops which were driving the Commonwealth citizens to effectively put their necks into the noose prepared by the Russians and Prussians. I just note the key elements, without explanations or analysis. Many Commonwealth citizens thought that foreign powers are honestly sympathetic to “great old ways of the Commonwealth”. So if the foreign powers were tilting (meddling, corruption) votes and elections against Commonwealth reform parties, the Commonwealth conservatives were all too happy to accept this. The Commonwealth citizens became excessively hostile to the idea of a strong central government. There was always a healthy dose of “limit the central government” attitude in the Commonwealth, local self-rule was organic in it’s system, for good ends, but that hostility, 18th century, went way out of proportions. This pretty much paralyzed the Commonwealth as a state. The Commonwealth citizens were voting their taxes. While in 16th and 17th centuries those votes were maybe reasonable, people felt responsible, in 18th century the taxes had been voted pretty much down to 0, which resulted in things falling apart all over the Commonwealth. Infrastructure, education, these deficiencies all impacted the military at the end. On the other hand, until they got conquered and robbed, the enfranchised citizens had a quite comfortable lifestyle, money stayed in home budgets. There was a common conviction that, as people were largely patriotic, ordinary citizens can repel foreign invasions if necessary. Weapon ownership and training was widespread. Professional Russian and Prussian armies proved the Commonwealth citizens wrong. There was much time to think about those things later, for tens of thousands of the Commonwealth citizens taking extended retreats in Siberia, through the following century. The Commonwealth society got heavily infiltrated by the Russian agents. Massively, we talk thousands of people. This not only provided the Russians with a total see-through capability for everything what the Commonwealth reformers desperately tried, but it gave the Russians a capability to steer and provoke the Polish society into actions designed and timed for the Russian benefit. You might also read Piotr Szafranski's answer to Why did the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth not do so well compared to other major powers during that time period?

If I bought an island, could I make it a nation and then declare war on the United States?

I believe others might be overthinking this.OVERVIEWCongratulations! You've just purchased your own island. Independent since 2016.Population: You, your spouse and two kids.Gross National Product: $0Military Infrastructure: One Ruger Mini-14 ranch rifle and one Glock 17 handgun.TO WAR... with the local tax authoritiesHmm... it appears that the sovereign government of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas does not recognize your declaration of independence. Turns out you owe taxes on the purchase of the island and on the assessed value of property. But, you are an independent nation of four! You will not submit to foreign taxation!Until the local constabulary arrests you for tax evasion and your island is repossessed.TO WAR... with the United StatesOh, wait. You are in jail for tax evasion and threatening law enforcement officers with firearms. And you don't actually have an island any more. So, you are nothing more than a crazed individual writing threatening letters from inside a jail cell (or padded room in a mental institution). Some low level intern in the White House receives your declaration of war, notes the foreign, incarcerated address, briefly reads what are clearly the insane ramblings of a deranged mind, chuckles, instantly feels a twinge of guilt over mocking the mentally ill, then throws your declaration of war into the nearest waste bin.And so ends your glorious war with the United States.
