PDF Editor FAQ

How long have you been playing frisbee?

Short answer: since I was a child.Alternate short answer: I’ve been playing seriously since immediately after high school graduation in the summer of 1976.Long answer: My grandfather would throw a master frisbee in the yard when my uncle would visit. I tried to throw, but couldn’t figure it out. Neither of them new how to teach me how to throw - the master was a big disc and I was a little kid.Shortly before high school graduation, our senior class had a cookout picnic. At one point someone brought a frisbee and we split up sides and we were tossing it back and forth. When it came to my turn, I made an absolutely horrible, embarrassing throw that just turned over and plopped on the ground halfway to the other side. For some reason, instead of frustrating me, it inspired me to learn how to throw. My best friend and I took it up together. We spent that summer learning everything we could in any way we could about frisbee, and we both got pretty good at it. We both could throw backhand, and do trick catches and tips. I took naturally to the overhand wrist-flip while my friend took naturally to the sidearm throw. Neither of us could figure out the forehand thumber. We bought books on the subject - Dr. Stancil E.D. Johnson’s book Frisbee: A definitive treatise (I think that’s what it was called), and Frisbee by the Masters by Quora regular Charles Tips. We learned from the books the various throw, the sports, etc. My friend and I even created a nine-hole object disc golf course in our town park.I left home to join the service in 19777, and as luck would have it, got stationed in Las Vegas where I met Donn Blake who was the designer and course pro of only the third real pole-hole course in the U.S. at Lion’s Park. I spent many great days there playing real disc golf and came to love the sport. When I left the Air Force to back home in 1980 I joined the Professional Disc Golf Association (then just called the DGA) and my membership number is 1577. There are now well over 100,000 members in the organization.I played some disc golf during my brief stint in Louisville, KY where I first saw “heavy” plastic, but never connected with the course pro, or anyone else who could hook me up with these marvelous discs that I saw others throwing a mile. I was still throwing classic discs.I would not be introduced to heavy plastic until I met Living Legend and original Disc Golf Hall of Fame inductee Tom Monroe when I moved here to Gainesville, FL in 1985. I played many tournaments in Florida during the 1980’s, then took a few years off, then briefly got back into it again long enough to attend a World Championship in Port Arthur Texas in, I think, 1994, then the next year at the same location was the first and only time I would actually compete in a World Championships in the Masters (over 35) division. Let’s just say I did not come in last. :)In 1997 I had the honor of being one of the four course officials at the World Championships in Charlotte, NC.I was also given the honor of being the course pro at the University of Florida’s 18 hole course at Lake Wauburg for a few years before the challenges of new parenthood took too much of my time.Alas age and a visual handicap have kept me from continuing the sport that I still love, but I follow it quite a bit, and keep in touch with the many frisbee friends I’ve made over the years. How’s that for a long answer?

What are some tips for playing disc golf?

Do you mean how to play, or how to play better? Let's address the first: Get a disc. Throw it at the basket. Have Fun. Don't hit anybody. That's the simple version. Here are the rules for recreational (funsies) play: Disc Golf Rules for Recreational Play - DGA | Disc Golf Association So somewhere along the line people started playing for prizes and money in tournaments and somebody must have bent the rules, like a jerk, so they made a lot more as you can see here. Not very fun to read, but good to know. 802. Basic Rules Of Play

Really easy to upload a template and add people to sign. I like that the dashboard helps me keep track of everything that's been sent and that is still outstanding.
