The House Met At 2: Fill & Download for Free

When my daughter was 6 we met a mom of one of my daughter’s classmates at a birthday party. We chatted for about 15 minutes and then she wanted to exchange phone numbers. So we did.Next Monday, at about 2:00pm my wife’s phone was ringing. It was this mom we just met at the birthday party.“Hey, it’s me, the mom of Evelyn (not the real name). We just met at the party two days ago. I have some important errands to do now and the pick up at the school is at 2:45pm and I am afraid i won’t get there in time. Would you mind picking up my daughter and then I’ll pick her up from your house later?”We agreed, of course, and I picked her daughter up from the school.Mom showed up at 6:50pm to take her home and between 2pm and 6:30pm she did not even call once how her daughter was.Now here is my problem with this:We just met. She does not even know us. I could be a pedophile. I could be an abusive alcoholic. We could live in a house infested with roaches. We could have a weirdo roommate. We could do whatever to her daughter.Trust takes time. It should take time to trust someone especially when it comes to leaving your kids with that person.Some parents nowadays are careless.

Not a rebuild or renovation. But visiting my wife's grandmother back in the 1970's. Her grandmother wanted to go over to her friends house. Knowing that I like old items and buildings. We pulled up to a very old white, clapboard sided house sent back off of the road about 150 / 200 ft. A lot more setback then any other houses in the area. It was old. But I was soon to learn some of the history and age of the house. We were met at the front door by a woman about the same age as my wife's grandmother. We were invited in. And I was amazed at how thick the front door was. Then I realized that the ceilings were so low that at 5' 9 I could easily reach up and touch the ceiling. .most likely 6 1/2 feet high. Once in the living room. The almost full wall sized fireplace was the first thing that you noticed. I was then asked if I wanted a tour of the house. Soon we found our self in the basement of the house. Which surprirsingly had a tall ceiling. Now the history starts.her great, great grandfather was a schooner captain. And in the 1700's ran his ship from NY to Philadelphia and beyond. Behind the house there used to be a creek deep enough to run rowboats up and down . He used to unload cargo onto the rowboats. Then thru a small tunnel load them into the cellar of his house. Thus the higher ceiling. Part of the tunnel was still there. Bricked off many years ago and was being used since as a cold cellar to store food. It had heavy wood doors and heavy iron hinges and hardware on it. Probably from the 1700's next was a fake wall hiding a stairway. With a flashlight she led the way. Part of the way she stopped and said. " we are behind the fireplace" . And then we went up more. Past the second floor and into a false area in the attic. The fireplace chimney ran on the other side of the wall. So that it would look like the fake wall was the outside wall. Again this was to hide goods and special cargo that he might have. I got the impression that a lot of his cargo was not legal according to the British who controlled early America in the 1700's. During the revolution war he served America as part of the unofficial navy. Raiding British ships etc. being a schooner he could go where the deep water British ships couldn't.using hit and run attacks. Many years later the house became part of the Underground Railroad. She had and showed us newspaper articles about the house and the history of it and relatives. I don't know what happened to the house since our one and only visit. She was the last living relative. And I never got back to visit it again. It was a long time ago but it left such a big impression on me.. Even to this day.

I met this “really great guy” on vacation and promptly moved into the house he was renting. I’d never been in a whirlwind romance before, but it was fun in the beginning. After about 2 months, he came down with a fever and was really sick. I took care of him, running all over to pharmacies, getting takeout for him (he was still waiting for kitchen appliances to be delivered), trying to make him feel as comfortable as possible. Just like any normal girlfriend or boyfriend would do. Once he recovered, I came down with the same thing. The following morning after I came down with it all, he decided to “go visit his sister” and just left me in the house with no food, did not offer to do anything at all pharmacy-wise or ask if I needed anything. On top of that I had to shovel my Honda Civic out of the snow so I could buy some food since he never even came home that night. I puked several times in the snow because of the shoveling motion. He had been able to leave the day before because he had this enormous pickup truck, it didn’t even occur to him that I was trapped in that house. Well, it probably occurred, he just didn’t care.Once I was better, I moved my stuff out of the house.
