PDF Editor FAQ

If you participated in the no-shampoo movement, what did you use to keep your hair clean instead? How did it work for you? Would you recommend it?

Can we look at some of the misinformation that is making the rounds of the no poo circle?Baking soda is a natural way to clean hair. No chemicals and it's gentle.Let's pretend that EVERYTHING isn't made of chemicals for the sake of this answer and understand that what they probably mean is that it's natural rather than manufactured. But it isn't. Most baking soda isn't mined. It IS manufactured so you spouting how great it is to go natural makes you look pretty stupid. It's gentle cleansing. Is it now?Baking soda is a base. It is high alkaline and will literally blast open your cuticle. It leaves your hair brittle and dry. It also completely knocks the acid mantle out of whack on your scalp which means you will produce more sebum and your hair will get oily and dirtier faster.Oh, and FYI all baking soda is aluminium free. It never has had aluminium in it so buying the aluminium free stuff is pretty much a given but you are welcome to pay more just because it's says so on the box if you like.Soap is a great way to wash hair. Soap is natural isn't it?OK, I get it. I'm a soap maker and I bought into this one too. That's because I was reading anecdotal evidence from people who wouldn't know how to look at a scientific paper if it was superglued to their face.Soap, like baking soda is far too alkaline for our hair. It is around ph 9 -10. You can't lower it because it is by nature basic. If it isn't then it's not soap.Natural? Nope.Oils + lye = chemical reaction called saponification = soap.If you want to call that natural then knock yourself out but is it though? Think about it.Vinegar is a great conditioner isn't it?No it isn't. Vinegar or lemon is too acidic for our hair. After we blast our cuticle open with baking soda, vinegar will shock it closed again. One extreme to the other.Damage to repair damage.Added to the fact that conditioner is a lot more than just an acidic rinse. You can read about that here Kelley Spartiatis's answer to How does hair conditioner work?Clays are amazing and gentle for cleansing our hair.Bentonite clay is high alkaline. Rassoul clay is not as high as Bentonite but it is still too high for our hair.Kaolin clay is gentle. It has a ph closest to our skin which is why it's a popular choice in makeup to absorb oils. How effective it is as a substitute shampoo, I don't know. If you notice a common theme is that the effective cleansers pushed in the no poo movement are all high ph. I don't think that is a coincidence do you?The only no poo method I kind of understand is co-washing.It works just as well as shampoo doesn't it?Don't get ahead of yourself, of course it doesn't.In the same way that conditioning shampoo isn't going to do a great job of conditioning. A conditioner won't do a good job of washing. The amount of surfactant in a conditioner is low. It's there to act as an emulsifier not a cleanser. An emulsifier is how we get our oil phase and water phase to mix. It just so happens that it will emulsify some oil in our hair too. It just won't do it well. The biggest problem I see with co-washing is build up.Conditioner has things like cetyl alcohol and cetearyl alcohol which are emollients. The raw ingredients are little wax pellets. Can you see where I'm going with this?I've never seen a conditioner without fatty alcohol in it.Conditioners have silicone in them. Not all but many do.They have some oil or butter in them.So you aren't properly cleaning your hair in the first place because you aren't using a real cleansing product. Then the product you are using to clean your hair is filled with oil soluble ingredients that need a real shampoo to ensure they don't build up over time.I don't see how this is a good idea. Admittedly, there could be special conditioners that are made to clean the hair but if there are wouldn't that just be a conditioning shampoo?Although I personally haven't tried the no poo method and there are many people who have and like it, I wanted to give you some real facts about the various options and the damage they can cause long term.If you want to try it then at least you can do it based on real information rather than a load of poo!

Will you die if you rub Uranium 235 gently on your skin for 5 seconds?

This answer may contain sensitive images. Click on an image to unblur it.Q: Will you die if you rub Uranium 235 gently on your skin for 5 seconds?Yes, eventually, but not because of the Uranium.First, let’s be clear with what we are talking about. For the purposes of this answer, I am assuming you mean a small piece of clean, solid U-235 metal.U-235 has a half-life of over 700 million years, which means the amount of radioactive decay it undergoes at any moment is small. Further, it’s an alpha emitter, and alpha particles cannot penetrate even the outer layer of dead skin cells. So, rubbing a small piece of U-235 metal gently on your skin for a few seconds is unlikely to do any sort of harm at all, provided it hasn’t been crafted into a scalpel. That said, don’t lick it, wear a respirator, and wash your hands immediately after and with more than ordinary vigor.Given enough time, the alpha radiation will chemically degrade the outer surface of the skin and begin to damage (burn) the underlying living tissue. If this is allowed to continue, or if the metal or its daughter products are ingested or inhaled so that it’s surrounded by living tissue, the result with be continued cell damage, death, and eventually a likelihood of cancer.Over time, U-235 breaks down into radioactive isotopes of actinium, astatine, bismuth, francium, lead, polonium, protactinium, radium, radon, thallium, and thorium, before finally breaking down into lead-207, which is stable. All these isotopes are present, at least transiently, in any sample of uranium-235, and that will affect their fates if ingested. For example, uranium itself tends to be excreted, and what remains settles in the bones and liver, but other daughter products have different solubility and chemistry, and can have different effects. For example, radon atoms will pass through the body almost like a noble gas—but if they happen to decay into polonium while inside, that will bind in place and continue to decay, greatly increasing cancer risk. All things considered, I would wear gloves.

How do you determine what prevails when there are positive and negative impact to a house?

This question, this very statement that you all have asked in the question and this very doubt that what would prevail, is where things start going wrong. This is the fundamental seed of all mistakes. And once you go down this path, there will be no coming back. Most of us, new students, or even stalwarts of astrology; try their best to understand what “prevails” and what gets “cancelled”. But this very assumption that something is prevailed and something is cancelled is the fundamental error in making a predictions. And none of the errors are more dangerous than this.If you have read a rule, and that is wrong; after 10 tries you’ll be able to identify that it is the rule/method that is wrong and not you. Every time you go through a wrong teacher, a wrong text, you can recover from that error when you realize that the teacher/text is wrong. But if it is set in your mind that something needs to prevail and something needs to get negated, all books and teachers will begin to appear confusing. The same rule will sometimes gives the mentioned results, and sometimes the opposite result. If you use a rule 100 times, with this concept in mind, you’ll see that the rule is right 50–60 times, and wrong 40–50 times. And then, you’ll be in an irrecoverable mess.Adding salt to water does not mean water prevails. Adding sand to water does not mean that sand prevails. Salt is soluble and becomes invisible. Its taste remains but it isn’t visible. Sand is insoluble and can be seen. Its presence remains but its taste doesn’t exist.Similarly, nothing ever prevails or gets cancelled. Every single thing gets added up. A man with some afflictions to the 2nd house, may have broken teeth, be one eyed, and be a richie-rich man. Every single influence on it will give results. The right question to ask here is, which impact will generate what result? And it is from this question, that the journey to correct predictions begin. When you’re looking for what prevails and what doesn’t, you’re basically discarding 50% of the horoscope’s information, which according to you does not prevail. It is similar to running on one leg or clapping with one hand. If you’re right, you’re just lucky. If you’re wrong, it was the obvious result of ignoring half the data. But when you try and understand the total impact, both the good and the bad, the weak and the strong, you’re at your full potential and utilizing every detail of the horoscope. If you’re right, its just your knowledge that was bound to be right. If you fail, it was just bad luck.
