My science teachers name Is J. That’s what we will call him. Now a little history on this teacher. He has brought dogs to school several times. On pi day he played pi to a million digits the entire class period. He frequently roasts people all the time. The most awesome thing he has ever done (In my opinion) was this. He noticed that a student across from me was asleep. He took a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and starts pouring it on the ground.He lights a match and proceeds to light the FRIGGIN FLOOR ON FIRE!!Student jumps up and screams. Everyone has a big laugh at his expense. Harmless and badass. Boom.

Because 27% are lying. Or they go to school in Texas, but not at the U of Texas.Those are about the only two explanations I can come up with.Seriously though, all of my conservative friends censor themselves in classes. Maybe, if a professor really pushes the point, we’ll fess up to be libertarian. About as far as I’ve gotten was about how organic produce isn’t necessarily better for you than conventionally grown stuff is.But I highly doubt that even one in four is honest about their conservative opinions in all situations in class. That seems high.EDIT:I realized, after submitting the above, I didn’t actually answer the question.So here’s why. I was sitting in my English class a couple days ago, and the subject got shoved around to global warming. I’m smart enough to shut up. One of the Freshmen in the back didn’t get that memo, and said something to the effect of, “I don’t worry about Global Warming because there’s too much hysteria associated with those who are trying to push it”.Half the class jumped his ass for being self-centered immediately. He was naive, ignorant, uneducated and capitalistic (all adjectives used to describe him by my classmates).Today, he sat alone. All five students who were sitting around him switched seats. The professor called on him, by name, twice in a class period where he called on one other student a single time. That class is effectively shot for him.Now, he’ll still pass the class (because failing him would make him likely to ask questions), but he’ll be ostracized the remainder of the semester. That’s why conservatives don’t speak out in class.Edit: I’ve covered whether or not this is climate change denial about 15 times in the comments. Future comments insulting intelligence because of your failures with reading comprehension are a straight block and comment deletion.

As far as I know, two of my former students have juvie records now and are well on their way to adult criminal records, once they’re old enough. They were both very similar, even though I taught them years apart at two different schools:Both were being raised by their biological mother and her live-in boyfriend, who was not their biological father.Both mothers were very involved in the school as volunteers and field-trip chaperones. I recall meetings with both mothers where they admitted, before the teachers said it, that their boys “were a handful,” and then quickly said, “they get it from their father.”They showed little to no effort to do any classwork or homework.They were disruptive in class, but calmed down and seemed to care more when there were no other students around. Sometimes, I thought I’d had some sort of a breakthrough with them during a one-on-one chat (usually during detention), but it never lasted. The next day, when they were in front of their classmates again, they were back to their old ways.They talked about video games a lot. Specifically first-person shooter, online games.They gave up on assignments before beginning them, if they felt the assignment required too much effort. Handwriting anything was “too much effort.” I’d ask for a single page handwritten response to something, and they’d just put their name on their paper and sit at their desk for the rest of the class period, claiming they were “thinking,” but they weren’t. They just didn’t want to do the assignment.
