Spring Break Reading Log: Fill & Download for Free

To start, this is a grade- and subject-specific question. Math teachers of all levels should send work home as ongoing reinforcement. Elementary, English, and Language Arts Teachers should absolutely have a novel in process or assign a reading log to be upkept.As a Theater and History teacher, I do not send work home over this particular Break unless asked. And yes, I’m asked by more involved parents. I will assign the completion of a long-term project to arrive the day after Thanksgiving or Spring Breaks though. This way, it’s optional. My diligent-throughout-the-process students have it finished by the first day of Break. My procrastinators have some saving Grace built in.When I taught in Asia, we were required to provide in-depth Summer Break assignments.The point is, school gets your brain formed to learn and a child ready for the other 4/5 of their life in which all these vacation days throughout the year do not exist. The sole reason for this current school schedule is the archaic need for additional hands on the family farm during Harvesting or Planting season. It’s currently the Tourism Industry that plants dollars in Legislators pockets to keep this schedule.No other reason.Meanwhile, there’s also been the horrific cultural shift to school buildings being the sole source of all education for a family’s children. Historically, when families would meet nightly to dine, the children would be required to recite their times table before dessert or participate in a discussion about the latest novel they’ve been reading.As this no longer happens as frequently in as many homes, the onus falls on the schools.

I assume this question is about me, even though I’m not famous. I am a teacher and I am named Matthew Bates. That narrows it down a bit.I’m fine.Better than “fine,” actually. I’m doing amazing. Everything in my already-good life seemed to improve over the last year. People don’t really want to hear that, though, in this time of COVID and all. But, if you were to break down and quantify happiness with different aspects of your life, every single aspect of my life would show an increase over the last year. Relationships are better, finances are better, my health is better, and I’m even happier at work. I’ve been teaching in person all school year, and it’s been one of my best years ever as a teacher.Speaking of improvements, I’ve been doing a lot of home improvement projects lately, which is why I haven’t been writing on Quora as much. My power tools have been getting a workout every weekend since the snow melted in mid-February. I’m actually writing this next to the new fireplace we had installed. I didn’t put that in because, you know, that’s a specialist kind of job. But I did build the bookcases for either side of it, the trim, and repainted the entire room. We’re just waiting for a new rug to be delivered, and this room will look like a page from an interior decorating magazine.I’m tackling the yard tomorrow. It’s time to transition from winter to spring mode.Anyway, I’m keeping busy. That’s 80% of the reason I don’t write as much as I used to on here, if that’s what this question is all about.The other 20% of the reason is that, when I do log on here, I struggle to find good questions to answer. I’ve either already answered them, already answered versions of them, the answer would take more effort than it’s worth for something I do for fun, or it’s an obvious QPP or troll question, and I’m trying not to feed either one of those groups.So I don’t log on as often as I used to, because of real-world obligations, and when I get here, I spend a lot of time just reading, not writing.Sooner or later, these home improvement projects will come to an end, and I’ll be able to enjoy this improved home more.Married guys can sense the sarcasm in that statement. This is especially true when the code involves several hundred thousand lines of code spread out over 50 project-folders.Spend time improving your debugging skills by reading and solving issues in open source code.Eclipse (or any other popular Java IDE)There’s a reason Eclipse continues to be so popular despite not looking as rad as other IDEs. It has a goldmine of core features and plugins to make your coding easier and faster. But you need to spend a lot of time on it before you can reap its benefits.Frameworks/Libraries to connect to a DBHibernate and Spring JDBC Template are vital in the industry.Spring and Spring BootThere’s no stopping the Spring Framework. It was initially built to help build enterprise-level applications, but it has expanded so much now with so many more functions that they also developed Spring Boot just to make it easy to get started with Spring. Many companies that use Java use this framework, and it only makes sense that you get a feel for it as well.Struts2Focuses on building web applications and is also quite popular in the industry.JerseyThe most popular library for building RESTful web services, apart from Spring REST.SwaggerFor testing RESTful APIs. And it’s beautiful.Apache Tomcat, Glassfish and JBossTesting environment for your web applications.Logging with log4jWhen your product goes live you can’t take the risk of showing Errors/Exceptions to your clients as it is a gaping loophole for hackers to break your application. You’ll have to learn how to catch Exceptions and log all relevant details in a server log.Out of the stuff you mentioned Maven is absolutely critical. It revitalizes your code development, in terms of organization of your project-folders.And Annotations aren’t a thing on their own; every framework/library comes with its own set of Annotations and, like everything else, it makes your coding easier if you use it right.
