Interesting question.There is a tender moment between John and his young son, Jack in RDR2.I forget the exact ongoings of the conversation, but if my memory serves correct, it takes place during the mission where Jack gets familiarized with horses and how to ride them proper (not related to the picture above I just thought that was a nice pic I took of a moment between them).John—putting an effort behind being a better dad, he decides to lend his son some life advice. I think it was something along the lines of John divulging to his son how the life of an outlaw is not an ideal life to pursue.Jack retorts by agreeing perfusly with his father. We obviously know that Jack never intended to follow his fathers footsteps. Jack had absolutely no inate interest in killing, robbing and running for the rest of his life.I vividly do remember, Jack expressing his desires in becoming a lawyer, however. At this time in the game, it was a couple years after the big falling out of the gang. Jack must have been around 8–10 years old at the time.Young and very ambitious Jack dreamt of a successful life ahead of himself.But we know from the events of the first installment in the Red Dead Redemption series that what transpires doesn’t steer Jack exactly in that direction.***SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING OF FIRST RED DEAD REDEMPTION GAME AHEAD***John had died in 1911 I specifically remember. Let’s say around this time, Jack is ~15 years of age. The epilogue follows Jack and what he has been up to approximately three years later so he is around 18 at this point.With intense fury and resentment instilled within his soul, Jack isn’t the naive boy no longer. With all intents and purposes, Jack is a rootin’ tootin’ cowboy seeking vengeance for his fathers’ unjust death.The last I saw of Jack in the Red Dead Redemption series, he had just put a bullet in the then-retired agent, Edgar Ross.At this point in history, WWI either has or is just about to commence. With the remainder of Jacks family dead and in the ground (Abigail passed away in 1914), I honestly think it is safe to say Jack did indeed join the efforts.With no family, no friends and no purpose, I really can see the Jack we are left off with by the end of RDR1 enlisting to fight in WWI.What I like to believe is that Jack perhaps got injured in the war, enough for him to get sent home.I like to think he experienced enough bloodshed and seen enough evil in the world that it inspires Jack to want to intrinsically help people.I really think Jack accomplishes his dreams at becoming a lawyer and make a good name for himself.But that’s only my humble opinion.I’m a sucker for happy endings. Jack has been thrown into a way of living he did not choose. Do undercover cops change into the people they are tracking? The truth is that cops rarely go deep undercover. It is far more common for cops to manage informants who are already part of the criminal setting. Going deep undercover requires a high level of trust from the target(s) of an investigation. Let’s use working a drug ring as an example. If it’s a meth ring and and you are trying to buy pounds of meth to establish that your target is a major player, you will have to either be a person who is already a well known drug user, have a long criminal history that the target knows to be real, or at a minimum, use meth with the seller. Buying heroine? How do you feel about smoking or shooting up? Dealers don’t sell large quantities of dope to strangers who can’t establish that they are in the life. It can and has been done, but it is much easier to arrest someone who is already a known criminal and have that person “go undercover” rather than go to prison.When I was at the FBI Academy in Quantico, I attended a presentation put on by 2 DEA agents from Miami. One Sunday they were in the office preparing for a Monday court case when the phone rang and a citizen reported that he hd seen a small plane land on a dirt road deep in the swamps. The fisherman had the planes coordinates, and they decided to check it out.On arrival they found a 210 Cessna on the road with a sleeping pilot inside. The plane was full of Cocaine and Marijuana along with a duffel bag containing $500,000 dollars. The pilot told them, “you have no idea who I am, and I have no idea who you are. I will walk down the road and disappear, and the two of you will have a huge drug recovery, a seized plane, and $250,000 each”.This happened in the mid 80’s and $250,000 was enough to make them far more than debt free, send their children to any college they wanted, and retire in luxury. They admitted that they were tempted, but ultimately they decided against it. Part of that decision was their inate honesty, but the biggest reason was that they knew that if they let this guy walk, he owned them. They knew that the odds were that some day he would get picked up again, and when that happened he would have two dirty cops to trade. The resulting investigation would find expenditures well beyond their salary, with cars, homes, boats etc that they couldn’t explain.Undercover cops can get caught up in the life, but my experience is that divorce due to having an affair is the most frequent trap they get caught in.

I specialize in doing nothing. It is an inate skill that I was born with and have fostered all my life. It started to become noticeable in my formative years. I enhanced it with a good government job. In retirement it is now honed to perfection.This is not something everyone is good at doing. I take pride in being really, really good at it!
