According to my rank I am eligible to get college in TFW (Tuition Fee Waiver) round through which I completed My BE in 60K(15k/year).only book bank and college bus was chargeable I saved My parents 3 lakh money in my education because i am from general category if i was not selected in TFW round then i have to pay whole fee of college 3 lakh 60 thousands).so now moved on to Indore 90km away from my hometown to complete my Graduation.And being from Govt school topper i am eligible to get many scholarshipCentral Sector scholarship 10k/per year during my graduation.Syama Prasad Mookerjee scholarship 5k/per year.My father salary was 8k/month when i was starting my Graduation,My father sent me 4k/month(till 4th year of my BE) somehow i was managed to my living and In 4k my parents was managing their household & expenditure.Since I was good in my academic then my parents,society and relatives has a lot acceptation to me. this guy will do something good for us to improve our financial condition & make our head high in society.I know only one thing that i can fulfilled my Parents dreams and our financial situation only if i get the good job with high package. In my college there is no company to came for placement because it’s a 3 tier college so on suggestion of my dear Jiju i started gate exam preparation.i know that only gate exam can fulfilled my dreams and it will helped to opt out from financial issues because through gate exam i can join PSU where staring package was 8–10 lakh. so i started work hard to bring the dreams comes true for gate exam.In my first attempted gate 2016 i didn't get qualified gate exam even after a lot hard work and dedication.i got broked and get into depression for some time now i had no option.i completed My BE in 2016 and now i was jobless.some people making fun of me “itna pdne ke bad bi kuch nhi hua kya mtlb nikla itni mehnat krne ka” .Even my close friends and relatives giving my example of my failure.first time in my life i failed but my internal voice saying to me you are not a looser you are the winner.you are a inspiration to other not a desperation to other then you will have to woke up again,fight again to win the battle.Again i decided to prepare for gate exam but my parents and family member are not in favor with preparation so they denied me to prepare for exam.And my parents want me to join a job and earn some money, now we will not afford you to prepare for exam.But still my internal voice saying to me you have done a lot of hard work for your exam.if you had left to prepare for your exam, your hard work,money,time didn’t not have worth which you had already spent.your effort will be useless.Everything you had done, going to be useless,no fruitful output will be.so now i decided 6 month again prepare for gate exam to shutdown the mouth of people who are commenting on my failure & making fun of me.I borrowed money for 6 month from one of my close family member 30k(5k/month).i said that i will returns double money if will achieve my goal because this time is important for me,he gets ready to give money and started again preparation for gate exam day and night.I barrow money just because i know that gate exam will help me to opt out from my financial situation through which i can get good job.Close my self in room and started again study day and night.I always remember one thing “if you want something change in your life then you have to change something you do daily”Switched off my Main number,delete what’s app account,Facebook account totally disconnected to social media and with My close friends for 6 month. just to concentrate on my studies i contact to those people who motivated me at all time when i was felt depresse and use Quora app to keep motivated me for my goal.Post the motivated story on my study room so that i can concentrate continuously on my study. My study room wall was full with motivated stories and positive thoughts.I keep writing the daily record of my studies in my dairy at the end of the day to keep track my goal because this time i don’t want to loose, again hard preparation with proper strategy.In this dairy i was planned my goal and keep writing motivated things which gets energized me for my goal and write motivated songs so that i can more concentrate on my goal.keep trying to motivated my self continuously and i used to read motivated book.Now continue prepared 6 month for gate exam with a lot of effort and hard work having a high dreams to get a job.finally in January 2017 exam time came.lastly i gone for exam with full excitement .i wrote gate exam 2017you know what happened with meAgain i failedi couldn't the handled the pressure of exam in exam hall and couldn't maintain the speed while solving question.and Again disqualified for gate exam 2017……..Got mentally broked.Again i was feelings depressed,hopeless,Aimless,charmless and disturb with financial issues.Now i have no idea what should i do because i again failed and Again starting facing comments of people and friends,family,society all were giving examples of my again failure in gate exam.one thing that i know “no one will break you until and unless you break your self “I know i failed 2 times in gate exam but if i will continue Pursuing my goal one day i will be definitely achieved because i know my strength.i am a dedicated, persistence,hard worker towards my life. because i am having inner hunger to improve my financial situation because no one in my relatives is poor.everyone has a lot of money(in cores) to live their life in comfort zone .since childhood i am seeing my parents,they are doing compromise in everything (milk,,food,cloth,home,money).so i had already decided one day i will opt out from this all financial issue.and this situation continuously motivated me to do something good in my lifeK. When a reporter asked, "How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?"I know someone become CEO at 25 and died at 50 while another becomes a CEO at 50 and lived to 90 year.Then why we can not do, i failed only 2 times and i know i can do it failure makes you more perfect.But now one more try or pursuing my AIM was not in my pocket due to my financial issues so I decided to job.I searched a job at online platform,contact with seniors,friends and family member but not getting good job with future prospective.one day my college friend posted in college WP group, vacancy of apprentice in idea cellular pvt ltd in MSC department.I contact with her and next day going to office to give interview.interview cleared but one more amazing thing happened there was scholarship of 5500rp/month till one year, thereafter you may be get good job or not but job was technical and good for future prospective.That’s why i joined job in idea as an apprentice.Again i am facing commenting of failure and being an engineer you doing job of 5500 rp/month. what you are doing,family torture,friends torture,being a good student you are earning only 5500rp/month.Even if i take leave then it comes in hand 4k only.i am getting frustrated and not concentrating on job just spending my day because my dream was big and i don't know what i am doing here in 4k but after 6 month discussed with my manager i fixed my evening shift in idea.And in morning time i joined school (timing 7 AM to 2 PM) to earn more money. In school my salary was 6K so including school and office i earned 10k/month after deduction with working 17 hour and someday 24 hour working.In morning time i was went school and in evening time i was gone to office(doing both job in a day)In morning time 7 AM to 2 PM I was taught 11th and 12th classes students Maths and physics after coming from school at 2 PM.prepare to go office,office timing 3 PM to 11 PM.lunch was available from company site.then lunch timing 1 PM to 3 PM, somehow i reached office before 3 PM to get lunch.This routine was running till 3 month ,8 hour in school and 9 hour in office daily i used to came from office between 12 AM to 1 AM.after coming from office in night i took dinner at 2 AM.After taking dinner i slept, again next morning i have to woke up 6 AM to go school and then office.In Office, once in a week 1 night is compulsory for me now night shift timing 10 PM to 6 AM.In Night shift, After coming from office at 6 AM, I prepared to go school at 7 AM after coming from school at 2 PM again i have to go office 3 PM to 11 PM.then i came from office at 12 PM and after taking dinner i slept.Means Night(10 PM to 6 AM)—school(7 AM to 2 PM)—office(3 PM to 12 AM)—-24 hour working once in a week.Once in a week i had to do work 24 hour just to earn some money. generally i do 17 hour work including office and school.Since parallely i am searching for a technical job related to my branch with good package i had already applied at online platform, contact with seniors,friends,family member.and also Parallely i used to give interview and demo classes in some coaching institute to get some hike in money and i got the offers from a reputed coaching institute to teach 11th and 12th classes students.Since i prepared a lot for gate exam.I had cleared all basis of Maths and physics, i was more confident that i can teach very well because in gate exam i already practiced hard so no one can beat me in 12th class Maths and Physics. and dept of Maths and Physics had already seen in gate exam.So i have given a demo of Maths and physics in front All the 60 students and All the faculty member and coaching director.Everyone got impressed with my presentation and knowledge even i am having 4 month of school teaching experienced.they are ready to hire me with 35K/month salary.Next day a call came from a Reputed USA company(MAVENIR SYSTEM),I have given My interview and Got selected with package of 4 lakh/Annum.location in Mumabi.Now Parallelly I got the 2 offers of 30k plus:-Now its my turns to decide which one i have to select.I select the offer from company which is related to my branch and good for future prospective.Joined Mavenir System-RJio Project— Reliance corporate park (RCP) Navi Mumabi.2. Company booked flight ticket to join company3. Provide 90k rps New laptop for working.4. One Amazing Adventuring trip to lonavala by company enjoying a lot.5. Amazing flate for 1 month accommodation in New Mumbai.6. Enjoying a lot in Mumbai7. Now presently moved to Jaipur for company project work where company booked my flight ticket and hotel for 15 days accommodation.8. Hotel of Jaipur9. I can think of just a bit to add, however, given my suspicion is that they are from very traditional programs, and I am a poster child for non-traditional education. So I might have a bit to contribute here.As Dr. Otis mentioned, this REALLY depends on what you want to do with your degree.If you want to teach: Good luck! An online masters degree will open some doors, but not many. Expect to teach for other online schools, or the more lax community colleges and trade schools (but, as a bonus: these can and do often pay decently).If you want to practice psychology: Good luck! There are a few states that WILL allow you to operate as a psychological technician, psychological associate, psychological assistant (each state has its own wording). MOST of these states require that you operate only under the direct supervision of a licensed clinical psychologist. However, some will permit you to operate independently after x-number of years of practice. Texas - my state - recently made this change. LPAs (Licensed Psychological Associates) can practice autonomously after 3000 hours of practice under a psychologist (bringing the experience level under the same regulation as a counselor, social worker, or family therapist). Many psychologists are against this - since psychology is a practice level higher than those other professions. I have mixed feelings.The things to look for, if this is your goal, are:Does the credit hour satisfy the state requirement?For example, Texas traditionally required psychological associates to possess a 42-credit-hour M.A. However, since we now allow autonomous practice, the requirement is being upped to 60-credit-hours (the same as counselors and social workers and LMFTs). The 42-credit-hour requirement is good until 2021. Sometimes, if your degree is too short, you can add hours - but you'd need to ask the state. For example, in Texas, you can have a 30-credit-hour degree, and add up to four more classes (12 hours) to make it to the 42. All states are different.Does the name of the degree satisfy the state requirement?For example, some states require a degree in "clinical psychology." I believe Kentucky is worded this way. Texas, however, requires any degree with the name "psychology." So for us, the following would work: psychology, school psychology, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, upside down psychology, nightmare before Christmas psychology, etc.Does the coursework satisfy the state requirement?Some states don't stipulate coursework for mid-level practice. Some do. In Texas, we have a list of "domains" that must be included. For example, you don't have to have a specific class in "biological bases" or "cognitive bases" or "psychological testing," but you DO have to be able to show training in these domains. Some states may require specific courses. Oklahoma, for example, would let you be licensed as a counselor, with a degree in psychology, if you can show training in specific domains.Does the program include the proper amount of practica or internship?This could include a "clock hour" requirement (which Texas used to) - like 300 hours of supervised experience... or 1500 hours of internship. However, it could also include an academic hour requirement (which Texas now does) - like a 6-credit-hour-course experience. So anyone taking two 3-credit-hour courses of internship meets the licensing requirement in Texas.Does the program include the proper amount of research if applicable?Many masters-level psych licenses don’t require a research component. However, some states may (just throwing it out there, but I don’t know of any). On the other hand, what I DO know is that some states limit the number of research hours that can count toward the degree hours. So for example, Texas says “you have to have at least x-number of actual didactic course hours.” In other words, you can’t have a 42-credit-hour masters degree made up of mostly thesis hours! As an aside, if you are planning to use your degree to get hired at a lab or research facility (a) you’ll want plenty of courses in stats, research methods, experimental, etc, but (b) you probably shouldn’t be looking at online programs for that!Will the program prepare you for the EPPP?If you are in a state that will allow you to sit for the EPPP with only a master's degree, are you sure that program will adequately prepare you? I'll be the first to tell you: even if a program DOES prepare you, you'll STILL need to do plenty of additional studying! So imagine if you go to a program that is a total joke? Don't do it. Also, along the same lines... just because you "can" half-ass through a program, doesn't mean you should. You're paying for courses. So get something out of them. Often it doesn't matter what professor you have, how great/horrible your classmates are, or how crappy the textbook is: you can STILL make the course valuable.Most importantly:Will the program you prepare you... for practice (not just exam)?I think that many students just say: check, check, check, check. And at the end of the day, they have every box checked but didn't learn shit. That is ESPECIALLY true in an online format. Don't get me wrong: I am a 100% believer in the value of online learning... when executed properly. I did many of my foundational psych courses online. I am also a student at the first law school in the U.S. to be permitted to offer a semi-online program. Online can be a blessing and a curse. It makes you study harder (if you're the type of student that is going to make the best, no matter what - about 10% of online learners). But it also lets you slip by without doing so (about 90% of online learners).You can TOTALLY learn theory online. No biggie there. Why did Freud's camp eventually disagree with him? Where did he go wrong? What did the behaviorists hate about dynamic theory? What did the humanists hate about behaviorist theory? What sensory perceptions are developed inside the womb? What is the critical point in language development - if there is one - and what are the arguments for and against it? Why the hell do we need to understand medians, and modes, and T scores, and Z scores, and LMNOP scores? All of that... no biggie. Online.But.What about CBT? Can you learn THAT online? Hm. Maybe. Pick up Judith Beck's textbook on CBT, do some Skype role plays. Have your significant other be a guinea pig for you... Ok. Sure. Maybe you can learn some CBT online. REBT? Sure. Maybe so. CPT? Probably. Motivational interviewing? Socratic methods? Acceptance/Commitment therapy? ... some of these you can KINDA learn online.But, active listening? Naw. What about existential therapies, and other dynamic therapy? What about emotion-focused therapy? Hell no. Interpersonal therapy? Nope. Group therapy? Absolutely not. Family therapy? Ugh ugh. Forensic psychology? Are you kidding me? There is a LOT you CAN NOT learn online.Oh my!Does this mean that the idea of an online degree is moot and these degrees are bogus? No.It means that if you do online training, you absolutely MUST have an adequate supervisor to teach you some of these other (more important) aspects of clinical psychology. The more dynamic therapies... how to conduct a PROPER clinical interview. How to be crossed as a witness in a forensic case. How to (or not to) weep with a patient. How to (or not to) hug a patient. How to conduct a joint-session with another psychotherapist.When you train online you miss so much of these little gems.The good news?Even if you went to an APA-accredited doctoral program, even if you went to Harvard, even if you obtained an APA-accredited VA internship… the bulk of your real training comes from supervision.Therefore, if you DO decide to do an online program.(a) Make sure that it checks all the boxes needed for clinical practice in your state (regardless of whether that means with or without supervision).(b) Make sure that you do your best to get everything you possibly can out of it - so you are starting your “practice” with a strong foundational basis.(c) Make sure that you get a DAMN GOOD supervisor because there are a lot of half-ass counselors, therapists, and psychologists out there. A lot. Find someone that has been in practice for 20–30 years, with an excellent reputation. If you plan to do a lot of evaluations, review their reports and make sure it’s someone that you believe writes thorough, well-synthesized reports. If you plan to do a lot of therapy, pay for a few supervisory sessions. How deep do they go? What is their reputation? Do they do a lot of manualized therapy (CBT, REBT, CPT), or are they as equally versed in dynamic therapies? Are they just as comfortable working with children in play therapy, as they are working with terminal cancer patients?My answers tend to be long-winded. But I intend them to be thorough and helpful to many people who might stumble upon them later.I’m very familiar with most online MA and PhD/PsyD programs (but not with each states’ licensing options/requirements).
