No.Article 50 is agreed international process without emotion, belief systems or political allegiances. It’s a process telling a group countries what to do in the event of one of those countries deciding to leaving the EU.Article 50 states that all EU treaties are going to automatically cease to apply to the United Kingdom at 23:00 (UK time) on Friday 29 March 2019. And this includes all the other 750 international treaties which are contingent on EU membership. All automatically expire.Without these trade deals, the UK is automatically reduced to trading on WTO terms. WTO is a complicated system of tariffs and quotas. It’s basic manual for international trading. The UK cannot discriminate, cannot offer preferences and cannot have control over other countries’ import tariffs.Additionally, all current mutually recognised service provision automatically ends. Architects, lawyers, doctors and dentists will no longer have practising rights. All gone.From 23:00 29 March 2019, the UK automatically becomes a third country. Just like Argentina or Zimbabwe. Not an ex-EU member state. Just another country.This is the no-deal Brexit crisis which automatically happens at the end of the Article 50 countdown on Friday 29 March 2019.Currently, the UK government are negotiating a withdrawal agreement which avoids the no-deal Brexit crisis. The withdrawal agreement implements a transition period which buys time for the UK government. But the UK government cannot replace treaties with new arrangements without the cooperation of both the EU and non-EU countries.The forthcoming transition period creates a new no-deal crisis, when it automatically expires - which is expected to be on 31 December 2020. During transition, all UK government negotiating leverage ends. There's no threat to walk away - because the UK is already out of the EU. The only leverage - cancelling Brexit - will already be lost.The EU 27 cannot stop Brexit unilaterally. Only the UK government or parliament (or both) can stop Brexit.The only way that the UK Parliament can stop Brexit without Theresa May cooperating would be to force a vote of no confidence that brought down her government, leading to a general election. So this happened to my girlfriend who registered for trial version of amazon prime membership.One month later - surprise! 69 euros deducted for yearly amazon prime membership. Here are the simplest ways to increase membership:Make the existing members feel that they are benefiting out of the membership. For this:Conduct surveys among members to identify the type of activities they are expecting from IEEE. Please make sure that the survey is as short as possible. No one likes to answer a survey which takes more that 5 minutes to complete.Frequently organize activities that the members of your Organizational Unit (OU) are interested in. This is the most important step in membership development.Occasionally have some members only events/ meetups.Have a members only corner or tables reserved for members for tea break/lunch/dinner during events and invite the speakers to these tables, so that the members get an exclusive opportunity to network with the speakers.Plan some local benefits for members. Eg: Special discount for IEEE members at a local Computer ShoppeSecond most important step: Publicity: Make members and non members know about all IEEE activities that are being conducted by your OU. Use social media effectively to publicize your events. Make sure that you send E-Notice to your members about the event, atleast 10 days before the event( E-Notice typically takes 3-5 days to deliver) In the case of Student Branches, post posters about the event in notice boards.Invite non members also to IEEE events, whenever possible. If it is a paid even, make sure that the IEEE members are given atleast 50% discount.MD Team and Awarness activitiesBuild a membership development team for your OU, rather than having a single membership development officer.Make sure that each member of the MD team are trained wellHave a membership development desk for every IEEE event. Keep enough number of membership brochures there. MD officers and Chairs of your OU can order MD Kits for free at the IEEE website.If possible, before "Vote of Thanks", give a slot for the MD officer to talk about the IEEE membership.Conduct atleast 2 MD campaigns every year. One on February (just before half year membership starts) and one during August - September ( Full year membership/ renewal time)Make sure that you convey correct information to the participants, while conducting membership awareness campaigns. Do not offer anything that you cannot deliver.Try to bring in some high profile speaker from your Section, who can talk well about membership. Before inviting a speaker, consult with the Section Membership Development coordinator.
