Go around and take pictures of the company property, the front office and the people, the parking lot with cars, the plant and the workers waving hello. Print them and put them into a small photo album ($2.00 at a thrift shop). S/he will see it as a historical document of how things are right now. Put yourself on the last page with a sign that says Merry Christmas or whatever the occasion.

Wow, I don't think that anyone will be able to top Colin Jensen's superb and passionate answer! That said, I'm afraid (and quite saddened) that in the interest of truth, justice and the globalized way, I'm going to have to seriously disagree with him.As background, one of my day jobs is projecting into the future as the Founding Track Chair for Finance, Entrepreneurship & Economics at Singularity University. And my nighttime avocation is studying the history of the printing industry and collecting books on the history and practice of printing...on which topic I happen to have one of the world's best book collections, with over 5,000 volumes. I wrote the historical bibliography included with the first commercial type design software (http://www.fiveroses.org/bibliography.htm) and I've even give a TEDtalk on the subject of the economics and entrepreneurship of Johan Gutenberg's print shop.So believe me when I say that I don't jump into this contrarian position lightly, or happily. (Oh, did I also mention that I run my own print shop, with half a dozen presses and 20,000 pounds of metal type?)Just as I'm afraid that the book as we have known it for 550 years is effectively dead, so, too, do I believe that the local—or even regional—print shop is similarly among the land of the walking dead. There will always be far-sighted, entrepreneurial, high-energy "printers" like Colin (who I would certainly want to have as my printer), but he is not so much a printer as he is an adaptable entrepreneur, who will figure out a way to use technology to create value, and profit as a result.While the transition away from paper and into digital became inevitable once the first electron started flying through the first computer, we finally crossed the Rubicon in this transition within the past few years. The success of digital delivery of books caught absolutely everyone by surprise, with the most surprised of all being Jeff Bezos of Amazon...which in four short years saw Kindle sales blow away its paper-based sales.The exponential growth of digital technology is so rapidly replacing ALL types of ink-on-paper delivery, that I believe there is simply no reasonable future at all for the printshop as we know it today, just as there was no reasonable future for the monastic scriveners once Gutenberg's press began its operations. Every bit of everything that is currently being 'printed' will in very short order be delivered digitally. That includes all mail, all books, all billboards, all movie posters, all spousal billets doux, all the signs and banners and envelopes that Colin believes "will never go away"...and even the mind-boggling amount of printed material that drops out of space every day and finds a home on the desk on which I am typing this answer.Will this all happen tomorrow? Of course not. But will it happen in our lifetimes? Without question. So therefore the best of the best of the most innovative print shops today will pivot and pirouette and innovate with the times, and continue to run at a profit for the next few years. But I'm afraid the writing is on the proverbial wall because of the unavoidable sequelae of exponential technological development:5000 years of writing gave way to500 years of letterpress printing, which gave way to50 years of photo-offset printing, which gave way to5 years of digital printingWhile as long as there are billions of people in the world there will always be those like me who print anachronistically as an avocation (just as there remain scribes creating handwritten books for the love of calligraphy), I sadly believe that in a very short while there will no longer be any place at all in our economic society for the traditional ink-on-paper print shop. And at that point, in the same way that Gutenberg the entrepreneur morphed from goldsmith to trinket designer to printer, so, too, will today's professional printer morph from ink-on-paper mechanic to "technological communications facilitator" using whatever the current state of the mainstream art is to create real value for those willing to pay for it.As technology changes everything, each of us has to look deep into our souls (and pocketbooks) and determine whether, or if, we are prepared to change with the times. I’m told by a friend of my cousin’s grandfather that his son has seen the video with his own eyes. Unfortunately nobody knows where the video is now but the friend of my cousin’s grandfather’s son watched it ten times, so we now all know it's real and incriminates the DEMS party.Most importantly, the printed ballots were whisked away in black vans, driven by privileged non-whites who were wearing masks with BLM and rhinestones all over them.Who do I give this evidence to?
