The U.S. Congress added the phrase “under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance on June 14th, 1954, in part to promote a sort of American religious resistance to the atheism promoted by their Marxist-Leninist opponents like the USSR[1]. Although the origins behind adding "under God" might have been started by private religious fraternities and that references to God might have already appeared in previous versions of the pledge, some historians argue that this was an effort to convince people, during a time of ideological rivalry, that capitalism and free markets were a God-given blessing.The famous Austrian-American actress Hedy Lamarr was also a genius amateur inventor who developed a frequency-hopping signal[2] that could not be tracked or jammed, which was supposed to serve in WWII to stop the Nazis from jamming navy torpedoes, but the idea was rejected because at the time it was difficult to implement as the U.S. Navy was wary of templates for inventions coming outside of the military. An upgraded version of that idea was installed in Navy ships in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Her spread-spectrum techniques are still utilized in Bluetooth, WiFi, and GPS technology today. She was truly a trailblazer.A joint mission between the U.S. and the USSR to the moon was planned. Not long before he was assassinated, the U.S. president John F. Kennedy suggested in a speech to the UN that they could work hand-in-hand with the USSR during their mission to the moon.
