Is it true that students after an MTech even from IIT go in the teaching line and don't get good jobs?

Some do join teaching jobs and let me tell you my friend that teaching is a great, honourable job!..I can give my own experience on that regard.I was among the toppers of my batch in M.Tech and was subsequently hired from IITG campus by a reknowned private university in Bhubaneswar what is generally listed before many NITs and new IITs in NIRF rankings, and recently, was also ranked as best private university in some credible surveys..Generally, this university hires phds (mostly from IITs). I was recruited because of my academic scores and publication(s) in reputed international journal and conference proceedings during my M.Tech.Me and my another classmate, who was the topper of our batch, also opted for it. Just to note, most of our classmates were placed in private industry/MNCs like TATA Motors, Bosch, Mercedes, Mahindra, Volvo-Eicher, Eaton etc.I was given a separate AC cabin, separate laptop (other than office systems), bachelor’s quarter and a decent salary with providend fund, medical insurance and lastly, the oppertunity to teach your favourite subjects to the fellow undergrads. The satisfaction can’t be expressed in words. Anyway, how much I was successful is attributed to the opinions and feedback of my students. I guided 3 B.Tech projects successfully and as they say, “there are no research oppertunity available in ventures, as such”; on the contrary, I had published paper in reputed publishing house like APS (in collaboration with a reknowned Professsor in IITG).Evaluation of temperature history of a spherical nanosystem irradiated with various short-pulse laser sourcesAll my conference visits were also funded by university itself. And all these happened in less than 2 years of time when very unexpectedly, I had an oppertunity to join ISRO on M.Tech based recruitment. Since, (1) I was the only person selected in my tenure & (2) ISRO, being an organisation of high R&D repute; I decided to grab the oppertunity (what I felt was an oppertunity of lifetime, for obvious reasons) and still I’m continuing there!!Though ISRO life has brought several challenges in my professional career but the pursuit of teaching profession and the happiness embedded in it can’t be substituted by any other job assignment (provided, you enjoy it). Now, it’s up to you to openly judge whatever you want to judge out of my teaching endeavour, after my M.Tech.

What dirty business tactics do you know?

Universities ripping students off.We all know how colleges and universities have become more of a business rather than a place to learn.Thousands of students write their end semester exams. But when the results are announced, it is seen that the better you have written the exam, the lesser your marks are.People who are expecting 60 marks out of 75, get 0s (I have seen this happen too many times with my friends).Students are unable to score even 26 from 75. Even when they have written the exam exceptionally well. What do they do? They apply for re-evaluation of their papers in the hope of clearing their backlogs. And surprisingly enough, they get 20–30 marks extra after re-evaluation.How is this even possible that the same paper in which he got barely a 10, he gets 30 marks extra? The answer is all in the business tactics of these universities. Each evaluator is given just 4 minutes to correct a paper which we wrote in 3 hours, and spent months studying. Time is not given to even look at those answers. This is because, evaluators are paid based on the number of papers they correct in a day, and each evaluator is given a maximum of 120 papers a day to correct. And where there's money, there's greed. The correction is hasty and wrong. And students who are expecting good marks are shocked seeing their results and apply for re-evaluation.And here comes the kicker. They charge ₹1000 for revaluation of each paper. And miraculously, the marks increase and students pass. Not because, magically the answers in the paper became correct, but because the evaluators spent a little more time in the correction.( Image source- Jntu-H website )The kind of correction we deserve originally, we get it after we pay a 1000 bucks extra. Why?And if we want to see our paper and the evaluator to correct our paper in front of us, we have to pay ₹10,000.Thousands of students are forced to pay these huge amounts just so that their marks and percentages increase. These universities play with the emotions of the students just to earn a few extra bucks.Wait, let me correct that. Not few extra bucks, but crores of rupees.Almost on an average 20000 papers are sent for re-evaluation every semester, and that's just a rough estimate.20000 papers x 1000 per each revaluation = ₹20000000 .2 crore rupees per semester. And that's just the amount for revaluation. Now, the cost for the challenge revaluation which costs ₹10K.Not many people can afford a challenge Reval because of the huge costs, hence suppose just a 1000 people out of 100,000 students accept a challenge re-eval.1000 x 10,000 = ₹1,00,00,000.A total of 3 crore rupees per semester, for the evaluators to recheck the papers of students correctly. Why can't they correct our papers justly in the first attempt? Why should we have to pay extra? Now, people may ask, they can always write Supplementary exams.Yes, they can. But keep in mind that the supplementary exams happen after 6 months. And in that 6 months, companies come and go for campus placements. And if they have a criteria that they need students who don't have a backlog. Forget attending the interviews. The chance to get a job in your dream company gets washed away. This is not just the story of my university. But, I have read about this happening in other universities too.Kumar Sonu's answer to What dirty business tactics do you know?In the name of education, these institutes rip students off of their rightful marks for more money. And if this isn't a cheap, dirty and disgusting business tactic, then I don't know what is.

What is the difference between a full-time campus-based Ph.D., a part-time Ph.D., and a distant learning Ph.D?

Thanks for the A2AFull time PhDThis involves a researcher who is giving undivided attention to his subject and can be found most of the time in the campus lab.The researcher is course registered for a minimum time period of 3 years. It could extend upto 5 years. The cost of this course is highest with respect to the other two modes of research.Part time PhDThis involves a researcher who may be employed and is pursue his research on a pert time basis. That is to say you would find this researcher more at the place of his employment than at his university lab.The student is required to attend certain number of classes and for evaluation. The student must have a min 1 year work experience in the said field.Should be working in an organization which encourages and facilitates research and will provide NoC for the same.It may take from 6 to 8 years to get doctorate depending on the college and course of choice. Obviously its going to take more time when compared with full time.Due to time deficiency, a complete use of lab facilities provided could be tad difficult to utilize.Distance PhDAccordign to IGNOU the course is valid to a min of 2 years to a maximum of 5 years registration.Note: According to the latest circular of UGC dated Mar 27/2017 Degrees granted for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph D) programs done through distance education will not be recognised.Only full-time and part time programs will be treated as degrees. All the Best.
