PDF Editor FAQ
Why do people on Quora seem to hate Tata Consultancy Services? TCS is not ideal for innovation and cutting edge technology. But it gives freshers an experience in corporate culture and ethics, with cutting edge technologies like Hadoop and Big data.
I started my career with TCS. I owe a lot to it, as it gave me chance to come to Bangalore - 'City of opportunities'I don't hate TCS, but I would say it's not an employee friendly company. I would like to share my experiences with TCS, which made me quit this Giant.1. Training: Good. An excellent start for non IT background fresher's. But, doesn't not match with what actually you are going to work on.I was still okay, because I like challenges and to learn new thing everyday.2. Salary: Rs. 12k in hand during training, and Rs. 22k after that. But without complementary food, transportation etc. With this salary in a metro you can only afford a basic food, shelter and clothes. No savings. Not much of recreation.I was still okay because it was not that bad.3. Non-ethical behavior of HR: After my training in Gandhinagar, Gujrat I was posted to Bangalore. I was told that as Bangalore was not my choice of working location post training, I can reimburse the travelling and 3 day accommodation in Bangalore. My total expenses were around 4k. Even after 100 e-mails exchanges, I didn't get a single penny.I hated it because with salary I received during training it was very difficult to spend 4k.4. Non-professional behavior of managers: My first project manager released me from the project while I was on vacations. He didn't inform me formally. I joined my office back, sat on my designated seat for three days without any work and still my manager didn't tell me anything. I got to know from my "new" manager.I hated it because its not at all accepted to me to be at a place - uninvited.5. Inhumane behavior of managers: I asked for leave stating my mom might undergo an operation. In stead of sympathy and support the manager was explaining that stone operation is not a "big deal".Made me feel sick.6. Bonus: Rs. 500 per quarter. LOL.I pay a bonus way more than this to my cook and maid.7. Project: As stated before, no relevancy to what you learnt during training. At technical end, mostly all the projects are support. No innovation. No new coding. Only debugging. No new logic. Not much learning.I hated because my learning was negative. My job was to maintain GIT (maintaining the log of changes made by other developers). Create installers on Fridays and send it to on-site. I didn't see a single code for at least 9 months.8. Policies: Though TCS claims that they have flat hierarchy and open door culture its exactly opposite. During customer visit we were not allowed to talk to the customers. Same during the client call. For single day leave approval I had to pass through multiple levels. And mind that we were not allowed to go directly to the manager. The leave policies were not at all employee friendly. For example if weekend falls between your leaves then those two days (sat and Sunday) will be considered as leaves and effectively you will lose two more leaves. Please note that leaves were more precious than salary.9. Employee Entertainment: Once a year all the project people were taken out for team lunch under employee entertainment policy. I hated it because the lunch was "Dutch". Each employee had to pay their own share. A buffet of 500-600/- with that salary is "extravagant".BTW did you know that every year top managers in TCS hosts an extravagant party (disguised as corporate meeting) at exotic locations as Taj, Goa etc.10. Appraisal: As I mentioned earlier my job was to create installers of all the work done by developers and send it to on-site. It wasn't my choice to do that. It was given to me.During my appraisal discussion I mentioned that how I have worked late nights on Fridays, learned things apart from my regular job, how I helped testing team etc. The argument from my manager was - " your tasks were not major task to gain a good hike".I was raged because the tasks given to me were their choice not mine.11. Opportunity: My learning graph was approaching the lowest ever. No learning technically, logically, business subject, soft skills nothing. In spite of me asking constantly for more and varied job so that I could learn something.12. Inequality/ Partiality/ biases/ contacts: Growth in TCS depends largely on language, region, how good you are at flattering, how good contacts you have in top management.I would like to state an example of one my colleagues. In Indian IT industry, on-site or expat roles are very important for securing your future financially. And almost everyone looks forward for it.As I mentioned earlier, my job was to create installer and send it on-site for "consultants". One of the consultants, job there (my colleague) was to run the installer in production environment and see that the installation was "successful". If not then notify team in India. That too once in a week. So basically the consultant's job was of 2 hrs per week against a salary 5-6 times than mine.12 months. 12 reasons to quit TCS. And I did.In spite of all this I want to thank recruiters' of TCS to give opportunities to several thousands engineers every year. To give them a head start. To give an exposure of corporate. To give them a reason to come to bigger cities from small towns of India and to learn more. And most importantly to make each and every frustrated engineer learn a lot of PATIENCE.
What dirty business tactics do you know?
Reposting this answer as I deleted the previous one. Read footage for more info.Long Answer, please be patient.I worked as a Customer Care Executive for Vodafone Mobile for a short period of time.#Trick 1Most of the calls in the morning were about balance deduction. Customer calls and complains that they lose balance at midnight for some value added service (VAS).A typical conversation, it was in regional language.Me: "Good Morning, I'm X and how can I help you"Cust: "I lost balance from my account" (The tone of the customer changes according to their frustration)Me: "sorry for the inconvenience caused, can you please hold on while I check the details?”Cust: “Yes”Me: “Hello, I found out that service XY is activated yesterday that’s why the amount is deducted”Cust: “How it is activated? I didn’t activate any service”.Me: “Have you been receiving any telemarketing calls or messages where you respond to that calls or reply to messages?”(Trick question, you will always receive calls unless you enrolled for DND)Cust: “I have been receiving calls regarding Vodafone offers but I didn’t activated any.”Me: “Mam, the record shows that you have activated the service via telemarketing. Did any children play with the phone?”(Tricking customer)(Some people say yes, some no. If yes then they will think that’s the reason.)Me: “Mam, if you are not satisfied with service I can deactivate it and refund the amount.”Cust: “Please deactivate the service and initiate for refund”.Me: “Ok mam. I have created a request for your refund. You will get your refund within 24 hrs.”So where is the trick? There are 2 ways (at that time) a service can be activated. By Customer Request (Telemarketing / via Customer care / Sim Options / IVRS) or from Oracle CRM (Customer Relationship Management) Software, a software used by Vodafone for customer interaction.Every week on random day, a random services are activated for about 1.5 Lakh customers (for one state). While we address the call, in the software it shows the initiator of the service is CRM but we could never disclose the truth. We know the software automatically activated the service but cannot accept it. We blame it on children, in-experienced user or like accidentally pressed the button. That’s how we are trained to do.The service charges might range from Rs.1 to Rs.20 per day or Rs.1 to Rs.90 per week or monthly charges. Remember not all customer will notice the balance deduction. If it is a monthly service, and you haven’t found out the deduction. Next month it will deduct again. And the interesting rule is that refund is only for last 48 hrs. It means if it’s a monthly service and you are finding it on the 3rd month you won’t get the refund for past 2 months and if the amount is deducted on 1st day of month and you are calling the Customer care on 4th day, we will deactivate the service but no refunds. And how many people actually call customer care? How many are aware of deductions and refunds?1.5 Lakh customers was only for one state, what about the other states, this technique was practised in other regions as well. They were making billions of money with this technique until TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) introduced double confirmation for value added service. It means even if you accidently activated a service it will ask for confirmation again via SMS, only then the service is activated. This method existed there for a very long period of time.#Trick 2Every 6 months or something the company create around 5 Lakh recharge coupons that are not valid.1 Lakh of Rs.50 , 2 Lakh of Rs.20 and 2 Lakh of Rs.10 ,these scratch coupons won’t work.So you go to a store, buy a coupon and try to recharge it. It won’t work you call us. We will ask you how did you tried it, you will say with *141*<number>#.1. We will say call 122 and select 2nd option, which was an IVR service for recharging. It won’t work there you call us again2. We will say have you tried 555(I don’t exactly remember the number). The third time we ask you to say the coupon number, we can access an excel sheet with 5 Lakh coupons number. We will search your number if it’s there will say I raised a request and will be credited in 24 hrs. (Usually within 1 hr)For the first 2 weeks we skip the first 2 step, straight to the excel sheet. After two weeks, we are requested to follow step 1 and 2.Remember, will every customer call more than two times for solution? When you call you won’t get the same person again. You will get angrier, some stop calling some won’t stop trying. After 1 month the excel sheet will become void, it means you cannot raise request even if the coupon number exist in the excel, we will ask you to contact Vodafone Store. If you are in a rural area, you are stuck with a void coupon. Even if you are in town and the Store is 6 km away will you go to store to change Rs.20 coupon spending around 20Rs or more to travel there? If the Vodafone store is near and then your coupon will be exchanged with a working one. But you will face this same issue if you unlucky because 2 Lakh of those coupons are already out in market. It happens every six month on every region, just think about the free money they are makingAfter some months, when I received my university certificate. I left the company. I was never interested in BPO. I hated lying to people, tricking them, helping company to steal money from poor people. I went to my hometown. One day my uncle came to me and asked me for a help. That his recharge coupon is not working. I asked which network. He said: “Vodafone”.Whoa. Hold my beer. :)I called the customer care, heard all the tricks that I used to say, it was a girl. I asked her to open so and so software and check the status of the coupon number. Check in the excel that the number exist or not and asked her whether the excel is void or not. The rate of her breathing increased. I told her I know what it is and I know you can’t do anything. Then called my friend who was quality assurance lead in the company.Me: Bro, that scam they started it again?Him: yup.Told my uncle that you need to go to Vodafone store to make it work. It was Rs.50 coupon. He have a foul mouth, he cursed the manager a lot. Manager gave him a new one to his luck it worked.Note: The people (CCE) you call are really helpless people, they earn 5k to hear all the cursing from the customers for the unethical things that company does to the customer. Be nice to them. They are just like you and me, good people. If you have patience, they will help as much as they can. Shouting at them won’t solve your problem. While working there, I happened to know some people who worked at Idea, Airtel, Docomo. It’s same everywhere.Different techniques.Different execution.Result - more money from people.UpdateThanks for the response. My advice to avoid being victims of balance deductions.Know your balanceEven if its 50 paisa or Rs.1000 know your balance. Check the balance frequently. If you find that the balance is deducted, there is a USSD code for every network provider to check the recent balance deduction. Please refer following link, I am not sure whether they are correct are not. If it is wrong ask the customer care for the code.I believe its mandatory according to TRAI.USSD Codes of all Networks (Vodafone, Airtel, BSNL, Aircel, Idea USSD Codes etc) - Tech ManiyaIf there is any deduction that you are not sure of, call them within 48 hrs. There are different ways to convince its your fault. Don’t ever fall for it. There were no direct training for CCE(according to my exp) to lie to customer but indirectly they are forced to do so. Talk like you know more about tech. Learn more about the services that are provided by these networks from your friends or internet. Don’t ever hesitate to ask more questions if you are not clear. If you hesitate, they will take advantage of it and end the call.Remember, they cannot hang the call. According to our rule, we should ask do you understand what I have explained? Do you have any further questions? If you say yes. We are obliged to clarify it for you. We cannot cut the call. If we did it and those calls were considered for quality testing it will be a fatal (means 0 valuation) but please don’t misuse it.Keep only necessary balanceYou will easily understand this. If you have 500 rs as balance you lose 2 rs, will you care? Only some. What if the balance is only 20 rs? When I said these services are activated automatically, most probably it’s not by manually but pro-grammatically. If you are the person who are supposed to write an algorithm to activate such services whom will be your target. The people with more balance. So recharge only the necessary amount. If I am the programmer I would also consider the statistics for customer calls to customer care about balance deduction. I wouldn’t be considering a customer who called customer care more times for complaints regarding balance deduction. So again don’t hesitate. It’s your money.Stay away from value added sitesFor your own sake, do not access value added sites from your mobile. How to know whether it’s a value added site. Those sites are very attractive websites with lot of entertainment contents. Your mobile screen will be full of boxes with download buttons. These sites are exactly like excessive pop-ups websites, wherever you click it will create a popup or open a website in another tab. If you see a purchase or subscribe to this game/app, leave it asap.Use adblocker browser in your mobile if you can. What I don’t understand is that even after the rule of double confirmation, how these services are activated? The following is my speculation, feel free to contribute if you know more about it.Wherever the money is involved there is an account, like a bank account. Your mobile number have an internal account for money transaction maintained by the company. Like you have for electricity and land line, you pay the money to a specific account which is assigned to you by the respective company. When you recharge, this particular account get the balance. I believe these value added websites have affiliation with the network providers. When you access such sites and click one of their paid service, with the help of network provider the amount is deducted from your mobile account. The value added services before double confirmation rule was activated by the network while these are like you are paying for the service via your mobile account. See here the initiator is you, the customer not them. These VAS companies also have APIs (Application programming Interface) which basically means other soft wares can interact with company software and make you their subscribers. You don’t have to be on their websites to subscribe to their service but on any websites that uses their API. That’s why you shouldn’t visit non-trusted websites. We all uses different websites for downloading movies and songs. Fine. But use the sites that are famous. Not some shady websites. If you really want to visit those sites, then use your computer. Don’t visit on the mobile. Again if the amount is reduced, call them ASAP. If you are lucky you will get a refund.Vasanth Pragash I think you visited one of the site I just mentioned. All modern websites works only with JavaScript. There are exceptions but it’s negligible. JavaScript runs in an environment which is a part of browser. If you visit a website the JavaScript in those website runs on your browser. The solution they provided is just bizarre. I remember some executives were using such statement while I was working there. If you disable JavaScript 90% of the website you visit won’t work. Avoid visiting such sites, and again if you ask me which sites? I don’t have an exact answer because web designers always come up with ideas to attract you to their websites. Now you know more about JavaScript, next time when something like this happens, ask them how a websites works if JavaScript is disabled. Tell them you are JavaScript Developer, if they call lie you can also.Important :There is a method to identify whether any VAS service is activated on your mobile.Send message : STOP to 155223or call 155223 This is a troll free number which should be extended by all network providers according to TRAI.Deactivate Unwanted Mobile Services By Calling 155223I checked both options and it works.Foot Note:-Hi guys, I realized my answer created a shock for the readers. Some people shared it into other social media sites and to the company itself. I have mentioned some specific details in my first answer that could trace it to me or my friends. Even though I updated those details, anyone could see it on the log of the answer, so I deleted that answer. First time writing an anonymous answer, so made some mistakes.I worked there for a short amount of time. There are lot of people working in these companies with more secrets. I realized that no one ever exposed such fraudulent activities to the customer. So the heat on me is very high. You can share this answer to anyone to make them aware of such activities. I don’t have any proof to support my arguments as no electronic devices is allowed on the work area, or even if it’s available I wouldn’t dare doing it as I just started my career then. What I am doing is professionally unethical! As you should never disclose your company secret to anyone. But then again, it is socially ethical.I read all your comments and surprised that these deductions will never end. Quora removed feature to reply to comment anonymously, I wish I could say more.If you think how can you lie to customers, when you genuinely know that you are helping the company to do unethical activities? We don’t want to, but that’s the job. If not us, they will hire some new people. Anyway I am out of there.Again thank you for the support.
What is the best way to earn $70 online per day?
There is certainly a multitude of methods that people use to earn the kind of money you’re talking about and in a lot of cases - much more. Let me show you the method that i have used to earn more than $200 per day - and i know of people earning ALOT more than that.I’m talking about “Merch By Amazon” is essentially THE best way to start your own T-Shirt business through Amazon. Its currently only available in the US but you can apply for an account from just about anywhere in the world ( im from England). I won’t bore you with the specific details on how it all works / how to apply (there are countless blogs for that around the web that are only a google search away), but i’ll cover the general jist.Apply for an account - it can take anywhere from 1 day - 9 months to get a reply (Yep, up to 9 months - just like a baby but without the sick and poo and 100000% more chance to make money). Heres the link - Merch by AmazonOnce you have your account live, its time to start designing some PNGs to stick on some Shirts. You can either create your own, or invest some money in hiring a designer from Fiverr: The Marketplace for Creative & Professional Services or similar sites. When you first make your account you are limited to only 25 design slots, but don’t let this deter you (i’ll go into more detail on why further down, keep reading). You get more and more slots for designs dependant on how much you sell. For example, when you sell 25 shirts Amazon will “queue” you to get “tiered up” to 100 slots. Once you’ve sold 100 you’ll get tiered up to 400, etc etc. You can end up with thousands of possible designs, which is crazy!Once you have some designs ready, you can upload them. Like so:(this is an example of a terrible design i created that didn’t sell at all over the christmas period, i wouldn’t recommend copying it)After you have uploaded your PNG, you are presented with these customisable options:There are 2 options of shirt, one of a lower quality and thus granting you more Royalties, and another of higher quality. You can choose a maximum of 5 colour options and set the price to whatever you think your design is worth! And finally you are given the opportunity to title and describe your design - this is the most important page as it is what makes your design visible to your potential customers!I have outlined the purpose of each of the sections (or atleast partially, sorry:P) so you have a rough idea of what to fill them with - but this page is what separates the amateurs from the pros. Knowing how to list your designs with the correct SEARCHABLE keywords is what is going to make you money. There are plenty of blogs dedicated to this sort of thing so i’m sure you can find any information regarding keywords and Amazon SEO relatively quickly. That is about as complicated as it gets, after you’ve uploaded your design you just sit back and watch the dollars roll in. No need to pay for expensive adverts. Amazon is used as a search engine for people who want to buy - trust me, the people who WOULD buy your shirt WILL find it on their own.So why should you wait up to 9 months for this opportunity? Well, you shouldn’t wait. Go a head with your other businesses and earn money from that in the mean time but this is honestly THE easiest money i’ve ever made. Here is my past weeks sales forecast -My account got approved early November, so i’ve been at this for just over a month and look at my results. I haven’t even been tiered up yet.You may have seen similar screenshots from people around the web boasting similar or higher profits, but with waaaaaaay more designs live than me and perhaps your wondering why that is?Its simple - the majority of people who use MBA (Merch By Amazon) consider it a numbers game - They go after competitive niches with 100’s of designs hoping that they will sell once or twice a week. This obviously adds up to a lot of money in the long run, and works well for the people who actually get there. But i take time to research for my designs - i don’t want to waste an hour finding a good designer or drawing something myself for it to sell one a week - no - I want to find a niche where i can create something great, with low competition and that will sell 10 if not 20 a day.Quality over quantity. Live by these 3 words and you’ll be successful. If you have any more questions about MBA, or more specific questions regarding my methods then feel free to join my facebook group where i’m trying to grow a a community of like minded, success driven individuals to share in my success and help eachother out. The link is below.Log into FacebookThank you for taking the time to read my comment and i hope it helps. Peace and love.
