I will not agree with all of the answers provided below. People written those answers certainly luck information about international admission in the US. Certainly, they are right if you get into elite universities, most likely you will end up with paying around 10K $ per year if not less ( considering that they will accept you knowing your financial need). As an international who is going through all of this process now, I can say you, there are many affordable options about which people don't know. Firtsly, you don't have to even pay for application fees as you can always ask for fee waivers and mostly universities provide it( I applied EA with application fee waivers and already got all fee waivers for RD round) , you don't have to come to the US to see which university fits you, just talk to their current students through social media. There are many colleges which will cost you around 15–20K $ per year with food and housing included. Such as Berea College ( which has a decent education and very low price as they provide full-scholarship for all students admitted) with admission rate around 35% but they accept only one student from a country ( around 35 international students per year), Colgate University is very generous with scholarships with good ranking and better acceptation rate than any other elite school.Also, such public universities as University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State Unjversity, University of Arkansas, Ohio State University , West Texas A&M and universities like that can provide you with scholarships for out-of-state tuition (international students qualify) and the cost will be down to around 10–20K $or even less depending on their interest in you.Moreover , you should look for private schools which are not as popular as elite ones ( Ivies, Stanford, MIT, JHU and etc) which are also generous in scholarships especially if they don't have or have very few students from your country. One of my aquintances got full-coverage for 4 years in Leigh University, she is first student from my country who applied there.So, if you really want to study in the US, don't listen to all what people write on Quora ( most of them are uninformed about all possibilities), sit down and start searching. Believe me, you will find you perfect match as soon as you will start searching. I would also encourage you to apply to a couple of elite universities ( they will waive you application fee for sure, so you don't lose anything ) as you never know until you apply if you can get into or not.If you have any other questions, feel free to dm me.

The cost of the study per year (Tuition and fees, does not include living expenses) in USA varies from $5000 to $50000 (might be much more too for MBA/Medical or other programs) per year. The cost of living depends on the location. For Instance States like Washington, California and area around New York are costly. In general cost of living for students from countries like India, , China, may vary from $6000 to $14000 (per year).It is also assumed that students will live in shared apartments, live out of campus and have less telephone bills and other expenses are at bay. Most of all expenses can be met while working on on-campus jobs. The hourly pay for on-campus job varies from $5.15 to $15 per (sometimes it may be $20) hour.Foreign students can work for 20 hrs per week and 40 hrs per week during summer. Students may be allowed to work out of campus (internship) after nine months (2 semesters) of their arrival at USA. Students receiving any type of aid like TA/RA/Fellowship or GA need not have to worry about costs. Students not receiving any kind of aid must be prepared for tuition fees and living cost for initial 2-3 months (also please note : getting on-campus job might take some time.. earlier you come the better). Also note that in some universities like University of Missouri-Tech and University of Texas Arlington there is huge shortage of P/T jobs.
