My sister regularly got called up for jury service. She was nearly blind and going deaf. She was never going to be allowed to sit in a jury. Whatever be the heath issue you or me, we are not doctors to certify ourselves as unfit, let the professionals decide.The following medical tests are conducted for a Class 1 medical certificate:Family health history : The doctor will ask you questions about illnesses that run in your family. It is important for them to know about this because some diseases like diabetes run in a family.Hearing test : Your ears will be tested in various ways. You must identify the intensity and direction of sound accurately.Eye sight test : Many people are worried about this because they wear glasses, well nothing to worry you are allowed to wear them. Your vision must be 6/6 in the test with corrections if necessary i.e. without glasses if you claim to have a perfect eye sight and with glasses if you need them. Severe colour blind people are generally rejectd.Blood and urine test.Blood pressure and ECG test.Basic posture and deformities.Mental health history.And guys your balls will be fondled too, try to enjoy. It is a part of STI test and girls aren't spared either.Basically these are the only tests a pilot has to face. Further testing is conducted if any of the fields have an irregularity to see if you meet at least the safe standards.Many people have a misconception about it, when they hear it is “tough”, it is just making sure you are a healthy person who won't pass out or lose senses, awareness at the controls of an aircraft.Any average person could clear a Class 1 medical.For further details check my answer regarding class 2.
