What are some examples of good distressed debt deals where people actually made money? How did they do it?
I bought some JCP 2yr bonds earlier this year.JCP 2yr notes yielding around 18-20% at the timeThe JCP credit curve was inverted, meaning 2yr notes were trading at a higher yield than 20yr notes. This reflects the heightened default riskIf you look at the pace of cash burn at JCP, look at how much cash they had on hand, and if you made some not-so-draconian assumptions on their operating metrics, then it looked like they will have enough cash to service the 2yr notes at the very least (who knows about 3yrs and beyond)Bonds were also paying 7-8% coupon to make it a very positive carry tradeYes despite all this I was taking a ton of risk because I don't think I necessarily understood the retailer better than the rest of the street.JCP's earnings ultimately came in above expectations. They're slowing the hemorrhaging a little bit. The equity is up about 50-70% over the last couple of months depending on your entry point. My total return on the senior unsecured bonds is about 20-25% over the same time period. The bonds are now trading around a 6-7% yield. Not a slam dunk but not bad for a 6 month trade.Update: Just closed out of my trade. Sold JCP notes at $109, trading at approx 2.7% yield. Annualized IRR in the 70-80% area.
Why do people refuse to give their food recipes for dishes? I'm referring to people who do not work as chefs and don't plan on opening restaurants and are not in the food industry.
As a chef, I think this practice is ridiculous. Food is meant to be shared. Hoarding a “top secret recipe” or a “family recipe” is usually done by people who:(1) Are vain, and doing it because they want to be the only one producing the dish and getting praise for it.(2) Don’t want to admit the recipe is either very easy, uses convenience ingredients, or isn’t actually theirs.(3) Actually bought the item premade and are passing it off as theirs.Occasionally you’ll run into someone who genuinely believes that the “family recipe” should be kept in the family, but that’s a good way to have food traditions die out.I have never once had a recipe I wasn’t willing to share with others. Even the recipes that I tend to alter, I write a base and put some notes at the end of how I might vary it from time to time. The ultimate compliment- someone who loves your food so much they want to be able to make it again and again!
Is StudySoup a scam?
I bought notes and guides from this site. The notes I got was from someone in my class but she had way more detailed notes than I did. And the stuff I got was a really big help. I didn't even know we were in the same class until I bought notes from her! LOL
