Why didn't car enthusiasts like the Chrysler crossfire?

It was a Frankenstein. Built off the, at the time, aging SLK320 (R170) Mercedes platform. A Mercedes at the price of a Chrysler? What a deal! I got one for my very first lease car. Loved it!The AC blew super cold and the heat would roast my skin! I chalked this up to the car originally being configured for top-down configuration. The rear spoiler on the non-SRT was so cool! Would go up and down automatically, depending on the speed I was traveling. The draw backs, if you were over 5’8” in height. The fuel tank was placed right behind the seats. I’m only 5’7” and I sat more “proper” in this vehicle than I ever did in any other car.Manual transmission wasn’t really in spec for the car. First gear was almost worthless. Only needed it if you were on a hill, otherwise you could kick off in 2nd gear every time.Oversized rear wheels. Look amazing, providing ultimate traction. However, I picked up a screw in one of them in my second week of ownership. $430 for a single tire. Ouch. The radio. Single DIN style head unit. The NAV was a total joke: single line text, I’m sure nobody used it. No Bluetooth, hands-free option.Friend of mine fell asleep driving hers. Insurance claimed it could be repaired. Five months later, after all their attempts, it was totaled. They couldn’t get it aligned. Ouch. The SRT had a supercharger, ugly rear spoiler and didn’t feel all that much faster than the regular Crossfire. The convertible was cool. Really enjoyed watching the top transform the car from top up to down. Was like a transformer! Why didn’t they like it? It was Mercedes from top to bottom, minus the badging. MOPAR guys shunned it for not being “American muscle” and the Germans shunned it for being old technology and “Americanized”.She took all the abuse I could throw at her. Oil changes, brake pads, and gas. No frequent visits to the dealer for repairs. I loved my Crossfire. VIN ending in 409. She’s out there, somewhere. ✌️
