You can buy a beautiful home for about 20% of the cost of the same home in Northern California. And the homes are situated on large lots and are well built.The restaurant scene is very lively and there are lots of places to dine with many different food styles. There is also a great craft beer scene and the wines of both the Finger Lakes and the Niagara Peninsula are excellent.The education institutions are many and varied . There is, of course SUNY, which is large and of high quality. It has an undergraduate division, as well as graduate and professional schools. But there is also Niagara University, Fredonia State, Canisius College, St. Bonaventure University, and D’Youville College, all within the region. There are also technical schools that teach industry trade skills. The work force in the Buffalo area is well educated. At the high school level, there are both excellent public and private schools. The private schools include the Catholic schools like Canisius, Timon, and Nardin Academy and private schools like Nichols.The business community is welcome and supported in Western New York. That is why Buffalo has more start up companies founded by people under the ager of 30 than any other city in the US. It is also why Tesla put its primary solar manufacturing facility there and why other innovative companies are moving to the region. Western New York is also a food innovator with companies like Elmhurst.Culturally, Buffalo is surprisingly rich for a city of its size. America's Illusion (What an Immigrant Thinks about America?)1 year ago ago I arrived at the United States of America with the dream of making money and becoming successful. Before ten months I was thinking that I am so lucky because I got the chance to step on the land of the country opportunity. I was happy because I was thinking that I will get an opportunity of being independent and self-reliant. I thought that this is the country of broad and open- mindedness. I thought that America is the country of hope. Although America has these things but they are somewhat diluted. There is a mask of illusion on the face of America's reality.When I arrived to this country I was so happy. I was happy because my all cousins, uncles and aunties came at the airport to receive us. First few days I was really excited because we all had get-togethers. We all cousins were together going to restaurants, different places like bank of the Hoboken River, New York's Time Square, Jersey City, etc.. We had night overs at different cousin's house. We were playing video games, going for bowling, playing volleyball in the park, etc.. But as months passed all things were being stop. Gradually we all cousins stop meeting each other due to different schedule of college and job. Despite of living in the same city and in the same building we had no time to meet each other or even to say hello face-to-face.From this, one thing I understood that this is the country is all about time and time management. Another thing was to get admission in the college. Since just few months passed after my arrival in U.S.A. my pockets were not happy. When I went or my admission in the college I was told that I had to pay double because I had not spent enough months in the county. Though I got financial aid it was not enough to pay off my college bills. Renting textbook is also a difficult thing because its cost is very high. From here I learned that for making money I needed money.So now I needed to find a job. So I started to find the job. But it is very difficult to find a job in this country. Though I find a job after some time it was not easy to secure that job. Employer fired me within a week saying that I am not working properly. I don't know how they predict my ability in just few days. So I learn from this is, that even if you grab the opportunity the more important thing is to hold that opportunity.People outside of America think that just going to America and settling there will level up your lifestyle and earning dollars is an easy task. But the truth is earning a dollar is not easy thing especially if you are a new immigrant. The reason is you do not have enough contact and you don't know lifestyle of Americans and economic system and employment system is very much different than your country. For example, I don't know about other countries but in my country India if only single parent is earning is enough for livelihood. While in America this will become a huge burden on the person who is earning. Your family can't survive on earning of just one person. First of all in USA rent of the apartment or mortgage of the house is killing the pocket of the common man. Even if every family member get jobs you never when any one in your family get layoff. During layoff you will try to get any kind of job and in any shift. Sometimes wife is working in morning and husband is working night or in evening. They barely see each other in weekdays. So what is the point of earning money when you cannot spend time with your family? I don't want such freedom that snatches my free time that I could spend with my parents.For two reasons even students also do job. First is to be self-reliant and the second reason is the cost of education is also very high. They work part time in restaurant chain like McDonald's, Subway, Dunkin' Donuts, and retailer like Walmart, Kmart, ShopRite and local grocery store. "There is no room for initiative, creativity, or even elementary rearrangements. These are breeding grounds for robots working for yesterday's assembly lines, not tomorrow's high-tech Posts" (Etzioni). Here the author wants to tell us that, these companies make students to think that they are self-reliant and they do not need their parents. But the reality is that this money will fulfill our short term dreams like going to mall for shopping and spending money on useless things, going to clubs for playing game and go in to pub to enjoy, etc.. These kind of jobs does not make us creative, are not preparing challenges in future, doing pre-defined tasks is like being a robot programmed by these companies which is used specific task only. These are low wage jobs and will not help us fulfill our needs. For example being self-reliant means being independent from everything including parents and if you want a separate apartment will this wages enough to pay rent and pay your school fees. These skills you gain by working at such companies will not helpful in professional life.There are many students who do not attend school classes, do not do their homework, do not study for the exam and even drop their school and college, just for the sake of doing job and making money. This kind of students do not find good job in future and try to stay at same job because they do not have enough skills to get a high profile job. These kinds of jobs divert focus of students on temporary source of income from long term income. So instead of giving opportunity of being self-reliant it snatches the opportunity to develop professional skills, and focusing studies. These will not help us in the future. "A decade ago, then-18-year-old Sophia Stoll resolved that she wanted to go away for college. The working-class New Yorker enrolled in a private Catholic university outside of Pittsburgh, but by her junior year, she'd realized that the media and technology program didn't suit her goals. Stoll dropped out, worked odd jobs for a year back home, then transferred to SUNY-Fredonia. But she ended up suffering from extreme anxiety, she says, and withdrew after a semester" (Aronowitz). This shows students who dropped out and starts study again do not perform well in their academics and ends up with anxiety.Student also jobs because of poor financial condition and parents' income is not enough for paying of school and college fees. School and college fees are also very high in USA. Textbook for the courses are also expensive even someone rent them. The time when I came to know that I am going to America, I decided that I want to study in Harvard University. But when I arrived here I came to know that education in America is so expensive. So searched about tuition fees of Harvard and I found this "The total 2016-2017 cost of attending Harvard College without financial aid is $43,280 for tuition and $63,025 for tuition, room, board, and fees combined"( Harvard University). So we can think that how difficult is to study in excellent universities. So there is no question of independence and opportunity, because these things exist only for rich people.Due to high cost of education students tends to take student loans. "There are more than 44 million borrowers with $1.3 trillion in student loan debt in the U.S. alone. The average student in the Class of 2016 has $37,172 in student loan debt" (Friedman). Student loan is a big burden after graduating from the college, because considerable amount of money from students' earning is used in paying student loans. So, very little amount of money is left in the pocket after paying student loan. Though a student earns a very good degree from the college it will not help to fulfill all dreams if he has taken student loan.Students don't just experience financial crisis during their college but some students also experience discrimination. "Black students at a law school find unsigned fliers stuffed inside their lockers screaming that they do not belong there. At a third campus, a group of toughs hurls epithets at a young Latino student walking home late at night" (Delgado). "Federal courts have extended "hostile environment" case law to schools that tolerate a climate of hate for women and students of color" (Delgado). Here author want to say that students experience discrimination on the basis gender and the race. Not only students but professionals and common people also experience discrimination. If this is the country of freedom and hope then why there the race between different races and why there is difference between gender. I used to think that America is the country of open-mindedness and broad-mindedness but now I think that somewhere in broad and open minds of Americans there is a narrow thinking that closes the path for the hope.Immigrants come here to be prosperous and earning dollars but the truth is that the value of a dollar is more worth outside of America because outside of America people can get more money by converting a dollar to their currency. For example, the value of one U.S. Dollar is equal to 64.29 Indian Rupees. Though Americans earn dollar, compare to income their expense more. For example beside education, the huge money driving factor is ‘Insurance'. In America it is compulsory to take health insurance because without insurance treatment is very expensive. And though we do not go to the doctor we need to pay to insurance company. Beside this there are other insurances like car insurance, house insurance, etc..People think that America is the perfect model for rest of the world. America's reality is shown after editing it. So actually rest of world sees the mask of some illusions on the face of America's reality. These illusions are created so perfectly that people accepts them as the reality of the America. No matters that America is the land of opportunities but there are limited opportunities. Though America is the land of independence and self-reliance somehow these things create distance between us and people we love. Whether you believe or not, America is the country where many people are the victims of narrow mindedness. I am not saying that America is totally an illusion but somehow its reality is diluted .
