Which Bollywood movie was released in the wrong era?

Bhavesh Joshi SuperheroThe poster, the trailer and the general vibe of the movie will tell you that it is just another superhero movie made in India with bad VFX on lines of maybe Drona, Krishh and The Flying Jatt. The movie wasn’t marketed properly and faired quite poorly at the box office also. It made 67 lakhs at the box office against a budget of 20+ crores. The director Vikramaditya Motawane co-wrote the movie along with Anurag Kashyap. Despite that, it faired very poorly perhaps because of a minimal star-cast and low expectations from the lead Harshvardhan Kapoor and to be very honest I hadn’t watched it either until a friend Prabhodya Singh recommended it to me.It is a brilliantly written film with a brilliantly structured narrative. What amazed me the most was the realistic approach taken by the director. It is not about the individual fighting crime in the city but how everyone can be influenced by an idea to prevail the idea of justice and righteousness. No superpowers, no overnumbered action scenes, no hunky action hero and no unwanted drama that seems too far-fetched.The director uses the themed color palette of black and red across all scenes and you constantly keep seeing it unconsciously across the movie. There is a well-choreographed action scene towards the end on water pipelines which has a noir element to it, and that was the icing on the cake for me over the well-written storyline.Even the bike chase scenes in Mumbai on the local trains and posh streets have amazing cinematography, and the swift editing technique keeps you in the scene with constant point of view scenes and 3rd person perspectives. The music from Amit Trivedi is also very apt, and I was glued to the screen thanks to a brilliant combination of story-telling, art design, and camera angles. Is it cliched in any way?Not at all, it is as realistic as it gets. It is about a simple idea and how human emotions and aspirations always get better of us when we try to be a good citizen or help others.Perhaps if it was released a year or two later, when the audience has started to appreciate better movies, I am sure this would have been a huge breakthrough. It was released on 1 June 2018 after several big actors refused the lead role including Imran Khan and Siddharth Malhotra, perhaps they thought a superhero movie would definitely hamper their career. It released along with “Veere Di Wedding” and competed with “Sanju” and “Race 3″ at the box office, and that is one more reason it could not keep up with the box office collections.I personally loved the movie and wish it would have seen more daylight from the audience.A good 8/10 on the scale for me.

What is your reaction after watching ‘Avengers: End game’ movie trailer (March 2019)?

I literally became paralyzed when I first saw the notification for this trailer on my phone. Best surprise after a long day of school. The trailer was extremely well made. Telling us barely anything while at the same time saying a lot. By far this trailer was the best I’ve ever seen. It was action packed and it was emotional. At this point it’s impossible for the MCU to fail. People aren’t going to watch this movie because of some clips. People are going to watch it because they’re interested. And that my friend, is the key to the show business.Very nice touch on calling back to the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Reminds the audience of how developed and grown these iconic characters have become. These shots carry a lot of emotional weight to them and it really shows just how memorable characters can be. Tony Stark was a greedy billionaire running arms deals with the military. Steve Rogers was a frail, skinny man with the heart of a brave warrior, unable to show his true colors. Thor Odinson was an arrogant prince with too much power. These scenes may be played off as simple but it’s almost perfection. Simplistic yet complex at the same time. Also, possible foreshadow of time travel. Just saying.Hawkeye training his daughter. Maybe a reference to Kate Bishop? For those of you who don’t know, Kate Bishop is an archer that takes the Hawkeye mantle after Clint stays out of the game for awhile in the comics.Either way, the next shot is Black Widow reuniting with Clint after years. The scene has no words. They don’t say anything at all to each other but it’s clear what’s become of Hawkeye’s family.Next shot is Scott Lang visiting a nearby neighborhood, seeing a suspicious amount of “missing” posters of unseen people. Most likely, he’s checking on his daughter, Cassie Lang, to see if she’s survived from the Decimation. Unfortunately, that’s probably not the case. Now, there have been some rumors of Emma Fuhmann playing Cassie Lang in Avengers: Endgame, but that’s a bit of a stretch. This is actually a callback to the comics on a character codenamed Stature.I feel it’s a bit early to introduce us to a character like that at this point in the MCU. But anything is possible with the Russos. No matter what they do, it’s going to be one hell of a ride.Hawkeye running from some unknown force. We actually have no clue to whatever this is. I’ve seen some theories that Hawkeye is actually back in the events of Thor: The Dark World, retrieving the Aether from another timeline, but I highly doubt that. So really as far as this shot goes, we have absolutely no clue as to where he is.Looks like Rocket has a new shoulder to ride on. And HOLY MOTHER OF GOD WAR MACHINE LOOKS BAD-ASS AS F***. Absolutely nothing symbolic about this shot. Just looks bad-ass as hell so I just wanted to show it.This shot is absolutely beautiful. You can see the emotion of Thor as lightning corrodes his body and axe. Reminds us that he’s the only one with divine power. You can see the emotion in his face. This shot has a time span of 3–4 seconds and it tells us more than enough. Thor at this point in the MCU is a character driven by emotion. Every one of his movies is him using the spiritual fire of his will and passion to gain the upper hand. You can insult Thor or Thor: The Dark World, but you can’t deny Thor was a very unique character. To me this is foreshadowing of Thor’s fate. Everytime a protagonist focuses up like this in a film, we know they’re about to bring the cavalry. I believe Thor is searching for redemption. I believe Thor is aware of his destiny like he’s implied in Thor: Ragnorak and Infinity War. I believe that destiny is killing Thanos himself. But really… who else could do it? And no don’t say Captain Marvel.Nebula most likely getting ready to strike down Thanos himself. I wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up being the one who kills Thanos. Out of everyone she’s probably suffered the most. Her entire life was basically Thanos mutilating her and replacing her organic parts with cybernetic limbs, just because she lost some fist fights with her sister, Gamora. Usually a regular parent would discipline their child, but I guess mutilating them first works too. Anyways, I would be happy to see her get the final blow in on Thanos, but I would prefer if one of the Original Three(Stark, Rogers, Odinson) landed the killing blow.Hawkeye in the same mysterious place as before. Still can’t get my head around where exactly that place is, but I still doubt it’s in the events of the second Thor installment. I don’t know about you guys but it looks a lot more…man-made. More industrial. Doesn’t look all that alien to me. My hypothesis is that Clint is actually in Japan as Ronin, hunting down the Japanese yakuza in this scene. Many people think the Decimation killed Hawkeye’s family. Which would make sense as to why Hawkeye is back in the superhero game, but doesn’t explain why he’s in Japan. Why would he need to specifically go to Japan of all places he could be doing superhero business. He has no reason to go to Japan if the Decimation really killed his family. If that was the case, he would have gone straight to Avengers Headquarters to investigate this case. My hypothesis is that Clint’s family was not killed by Thanos, but by the Japanese yakuza. Why would that be the case? I don’t have a single clue. But it explains why he’s Japan and why he’s acting so much more dark and brooding. It would also explain his new appearance based off of Ronin. The word Ronin itself means a samurai without a master in Japanese. Why would he switch his appearance to a more samurai-like appearance if his family was killed by some mysterious alien effect? It doesn’t make sense to me honestly. For this reason, I believe Hawkeye will die in this film. He won’t be the only one, but if this theory is true, then he’s definitely going to die. He has nothing left. But fortunately it is more likely that his family will come back after Endgame. I believe he deserves a proper retirement after the events of this film. Plus, the franchise shouldn't end with him, it should end with either Stark or Cap. He also needs a proper redemption end. Over the years, fans have been calling Clint “no one’s favorite super hero.” Hawkeye needs to get at least a big shot at Thanos before he leaves for good.Natasha back in action, training for the worst. She didn’t really shine all that much in Infinity War, so hopefully she gets better treatment in this one. It’s kind of heartbreaking to see a character so emotionally hidden, that finally we see her in these clips showing emotional vulnerability. Just shows how underrated and complex of a character the Black Widow really is.Now these shots really worry me. Captain America looks messed up. Battle-damaged. Scarred physically and mentally. I believe these shots represent Cap’s last stand against the Mad Titan. Before this, we see Cap straining to tighten the grip on his shield and holding himself up. For all we know, Cap might not even be in danger in this film. In the Infinity War trailer we see Thor gushing blood from his face but he probably ends up being the safest one there in the end. So shots can be misleading in MCU trailers, but I personally believe Captain America will die. I believe this is foreshadowing of the death of Captain America. But… it will be the most glorious death in all of cinema. We see Ant Man in action once again, donning his new suit. This shot doesn’t really show much, just Scott Lang back in the superhero game. However, it is evident by the pencil in the background that the last stand will take place on Earth. A devastated Earth at that. So basically, every shot from the devastated background including Nebula charging at someone(likely Thanos) and Captain America straining is on planet Earth. The last stand will be on Avengers turf. And it won’t go the same way as it did last time. However, one peculiar thing I noticed was that Thanos is not seen anywhere in this trailer including the supposed final battle, despite the fact that he was clearly shown in the Infinity War trailer during the Battle of Titan. I don’t know if there’s any specific reason to that, but I do believe there is some type of reason why Thanos was never shown. And finally, the most epic scene possibly in any MCU trailer. The first Avengers gathering in years. It’s emotionally driven. It’s epic. It’s pure perfection. You can see that everyone has a reason to fight this last battle. You can see it in their faces. They’re willing to lose everything in this fight and they don’t care. All that matters is winning. Also notice how Nebula and Tony are back. I don’t think this is some CGI trickery since it isn’t necessary to add them in this new Avengers line up, and Captain Marvel, Bruce Banner, or Thor are not seen. Rocket Racoon is actually seen in the Super Bowl Spot teaser. It’ll be interesting to see how Tony and Cap interact after all these years. However, one thing I truly know, is that no matter what path the characters take together or individually, it’ll be one hell of a last stand. And for the last shot of the trailer. Thor and Captain Marvel. The two biggest powerhouses in the Avengers. Thor tests Carol’s spirit in this scene. Pretty simple scene. Very basic interaction. I do believe Chris Hemsworth and Brie Larson will have amazing chemistry. Just from these few seconds I can tell they work great together. This may be a tease on how Carol will become the power of the Avengers once Thor is gone, but right now nothing is certain. And no Captain Marvel is not stronger than Thor. Kevin Feige’s exact words on this case were “She will be the most powerful hero we’ve introduced.” Key word: will. Meaning she will become the most powerful at some point in her superhero career among the Avengers. Just not now.Right now is too important of a time to introduce someone like that. Captain Marvel will probably shine among others in Endgame, but Thor needs his redemption. Thor will be the one to strike down Thanos. Yes, I’m calling it.Anyways, I think Carol will be a great addition to the team, seeing her likability from Thor.So yeah, those were my thoughts on the magnificent, brand new trailer for the upcoming Avengers: Endgame film. The thing about this trailer is that it didn’t tell us anything directly at all. It showed us almost nothing of relevance and even those parts hit us emotionally. That alone shows how much people care about this and how good Marvel is at world-building. The fact that we care this much about heroes that are fake in all aspects shows just how iconic and wonderful the MCU really is. This trailer, with far less action than any other MCU trailers and definitely less depth than other MCU trailers, showed just how much we care. And as long as we care, the legends of the MCU will never die. That is why I believe this trailer should be crowned the single best MCU trailer ever made. My reaction was full of dread, joy, sadness, and shock. So to answer your question on my reaction…It was f****** awesome.

What is your review of The Wolverine (2013 movie)?

★★I'm with Kartik Ayyar -- his review nails it.This movie felt like Episode X, Season Y of X-Men the television series. Another installment cranked out to make some money. Generally uninspired. The posters for this movie were better than the movie itself. The whole experience of waiting for this movie to come out and then watching it felt like one big marketing exercise.More specific thoughts:The story is stupid, not well-thought-out, and unoriginal. Logan and Mariko go South where they have no apparent plan other than hanging out and cuddling. Then everybody heads north for a snowy final showdown. Yawn. And the interplay of the conspiracies among the 3 or 4 bad guys was hard to follow and not that interesting. Was anyone really excited to tell this story? It's hard to imagine. The big action scenes were also lame: (1) the memorial service, (2) the train, (3) the final mess at the end. All pretty generic. Contrast these scenes with really good action scenes in other movies and it's painful to think about. The pacing was the worst part; again, I agree with Kartik. So slow. Almost every scene feels like it's 50% too long. Check-your-watch bad.Hugh Jackman was great, or at least good enough. Too bad they wasted his performance.Weird gender stuff going on here. All the Japanese men were terrible human beings, but the two Japanese sisters were smart and honorable. The Wolverine makes X-Men: First Class look like a classic. And -- I can't believe I'm saying this -- I think I might have liked X-Men Origins: Wolverine more. The origins movie was interesting and held my attention. One other note that may be personal. I have an aversion for storylines where the superhero loses his power for a long time. Yes I understand that it's theoretically interesting and an obvious way to go after there have already been 5 previous films in the franchise. But I didn't come to a Wolverine movie to see him bleeding, needing medical attention, doubting his physical abilities, etc. I prefer more mayhem and bloodshed -- and more ruthless / insane bad guys if necessary -- to create my superhero drama, not temporary normalcy. This was one of the many reasons that I disliked Iron Man 3.
