PDF Editor FAQ

How do software companies compensate for websites like CareerCup and Glassdoor? Given that interview questions are shared on websites and among peers, old questions must become less and less useful in identifying good candidates.

It is not complete true. I am not sure whether these are violating any NDA.One of the top notch company referred my friend to look at sites like CareerCup to understand the level of difficulty. And I heard, few companies request resume of people who answered best among all on these sites. Above all, companies want best talent in the industry. There are two sides of the coin. If candidate mug up answers, interviewers can easily spot them. It is also challenge to interviewers to come up with different questions every time or tweak existing questions. This exercise will increase their level of expertise too. It is hard to set questions than answering.Another side, real time experience of working on open source project or commercial project adds lot of value. However, lack of expertise on algorithmic and data structure skills won't be an exception. One must have expertise in these two subjects.Reading these sites during college days (4 years - too long time) an hour per day and little more in the weekends will be sufficient. I strongly suggest to avoid last minute rush. Learning should be a joyful activity. At the end of the day these sites help to learn, it is the "practice (on own) that makes them perfect".I don't suggest reading answers in the books like Cracking The Coding Interview. Pick these books for collection of questions and answer them on your own. May be comparing answers would help to learn from authors style.

What is the nicest thing you've ever done that nobody knew about until you revealed it here?

Fund collection for Tsunami affected victims even though I was lost when I was 13.After the Tsunami in 2004, our school was raising funds for the victims. One day I was taken along with few other students to a busy market place. We started going into the shops asking for donations. I was so busy in fund collection that in the afternoon, when I came out of a shop and looked around, I realized that I was lost. I couldn't spot my friends or my in-charge teacher anywhere. I panicked for a few minutes and searched a few streets but to no success. I thought to myself that me getting lost is not a bigger problem than the ones for whom I'm collecting funds and then resumed collecting money.By the time it was evening, I realized I should be going home but I didn't know the route back. I couldn't hire an auto as there was no money in my pockets. I wandered the same streets in confusion and then decided to walk back by asking the route. I chose not to tell anyone that I was lost as I was afraid that they might take advantage of the opportunity to snatch the money that was collected. I just wanted to protect the money and hand it over safely at my school. So, by asking for route guidance from the police, I walked all the way back to my school which is around 4-5 km at around 4pm. What kept me motivated to walk for that long even though I walked throughout the day was that I was collecting money from the shopkeepers in the way. I felt happy for getting lost because I was able to collect more donations. However, I kept regretting my decision to walk because I had a feeling that my teachers or parents are going to scream at me for such recklessness but that didn't stop me. I just kept asking for donations from everyone. The feeling that that money is going to help the tsunami victims kept me active throughout the day without eating a tiny bit of food. I requested a shopkeeper for a glass of water and rested there for sometime. It was past 6pm when I reached my school and stopped my teachers who were starting out on another round of quest for me. When I saw them, I just couldn't hold back my tears, I don't know why but I started crying, may be because I made it back to my people.(I later felt stupid for crying). One of them hugged me and calmed me down. I handed over the money to the school and went home.I am proud of it but didn't tell anyone at that time for the fear of criticism that I was greedy in collecting money, but few years later, I realized that I did it for a good cause and people were actually in need of that money. I never thought about it again. I hope the money helped someone.********Small donation to two kids collecting scrap from the road. One evening when I was going home from work, I saw two half-naked kids on the way collecting scrap and waste papers in the bag that they are carrying on their shoulders. While I was a few meters away, I noticed that they were asking for a lift. I stopped my bike in front of them and asked where they wanted to go. Their destination was at least 6km from that place and for kids of that age, it is too much of a walk. I picked them up and made them my pillion riders.I started asking them questions while I drove. I asked them why they were doing that work and about their parents. They told that they used to go to the government school(govt. schools charge very less fee for education in India) when their mother used to work as a maid in several houses and father was collecting scrap but they stopped education after some time. On asking the reason, they said they lost their mother in an accident and their father became handicapped. Unable to afford for their education, they had to get into this work.I could not ask or say anything more. Who can take mother's death? That too for kids that young, the loss was too much. I didn't know whether anything I speak out of sympathy would be understood by them. I was thinking to myself that they are carrying the responsibility of their lives at a very young age.Meanwhile, we reached their destination and I dropped them. I did the only thing that came to my mind then. I took out two Rs.500 notes from my wallet, well that's all I was carrying at that time, and gave them one each.I know that it's not going to serve them forever but I know that it will take the burden off their shoulders for a couple of days at least and more importantly I could see their innocent faces lit up on seeing that money.Money is different things for me, but for them, it is food. Unlike me, they don't have choices in life, they just accept what they get. But for once, I suppose, that money let them choose, may it be food, or clothes, or a blanket to sleep on. I just felt happy that I could make a difference at least for one day in their life.

What do you own a ridiculous amount of?

Flight boarding passes!I started collecting these boarding passes ever since I got my first job in September 2018. So far this collections boasts of boarding passes. Also, many times, I had the boarding pass printed on an A4 paper which I brought from my home and yet requested at the counter to hand me a proper one so that I could add it to my collection. They agreed almost all the time, except once which stands as the odd one out!Since September 2018, I had flown to Trivandrum, Chennai (twice), Pune (twice), Hyderabad (twice), Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Bagdogra and of course, the way back to Kolkata. Currently I have flown with Air India (the most number of times), followed by Indigo, twice with Spice Jet and once with Go Air.My collection suffered a temporary setback because of Covid-19 travel restrictions but I visited Chennai in December 2020 to resume ticking off my bucket list. The count stands at 18 so far. Here’s looking forward to more! Before I started my job, while I was still in college, I used to collect bus tickets. I used public buses for my daily commute to college and used to collect the bus tickets.Although more than 50% of my collection have been lost, whatever that is remaining still hold quite a lot of tickets. I started this in my second year of college and went on till my fourth year.Had I regularly gone to college in my final year, there could have been more into this. Yet, this should have at least 500 tickets, if not more! From collecting bus tickets to flight tickets, the promotion has been really significant, don’t you think?

People Trust Us

Its much fulfilling to help needy people in the society. During summer my friend and I had planned to visit her home country In Kenya in Africa at a place known as Kisii. There were kids who lived on the streets. The kids were suffering from hunger. The only food they could eat was remains from hotels near where they lived. They had no shelter and even their clothes were thorn. We bought for them new clothes and food. Then we could visit them every morning to buy them food and hired rooms for them to stay for one year as we plan buy a piece of land and build an orphanage for them. The act brings a smile not only to the kids but also to the community.
