PDF Editor FAQ

Which are the worst engineering colleges in India? Explain. Personal experiences are welcome.

Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology, CoimbatoreThis college can be regarded as the worst college not only in India but also in the entire Universe.Fake Marketing : This year the college authorities claim that a guy had got an offer from Amazon for 27 Lakhs per Annum CTC. The truth is that he didn’t get job. He is currently undergoing “internship” at Amazon. At the end of internship, based on his performance he might be given a Pre-Placement Offer or a Pre-Placement Interview. By the way, even for IIT Delhi Undergraduates, the package given by Amazon was 16 Lakhs per Annum CTC only not 27 Lakhs. (Source : Uber, Amazon, Flipkart rush to IIT Delhi for placements; offer as much as Rs 36.6 lakh annually). Same thing for students placed in Tivo. They aren’t Employees. They are Interns.Collecting extra Fees : Even, if we never broke anything in lab, we have to pay “Lab Breakage” amount for each lab every semester. If you don’t pay, you won’t get hall ticket for the theory exam. Anna University Photocopy fees is 300 Rupees and Revaluation fees is 400 Rupees but they collect extra 100 Rupees(50 for photocopy + 50 for Revaluation) from students who are presently studying here and 200 Rupees(100 for photocopy + 100 for Revaluation) from students who have already completed their 4 years but still having backlogs, in the name of Demand Draft. Anyway they are going to pay on behalf of all students. So, collecting 50/100 Rupees from students would give them a huge profit every semester.Collecting Unnecessary Fines : A lot of parent’s hard earned money is wasted by paying unnecessary fines for silly reasons. If the classroom is little dirty due to papers/chocolate wrappers, the whole class has to pay a fine of 10 rupees each. If there is any ink mark on the table/desk, a huge fine will be imposed on the students who had been sitting there. If any male student is found with his shirt untucked, his ID Card would be seized and to get back his ID Card, he has to pay 50 rupees. If you are wearing sandals instead of shoes, you have to pay huge penalty. Some of the other silly reasons for which ID Card might be seized include the following:Coming late to class by few minutes(even for genuine reasons and unavoidable circumstances)For failing an Internal test.Talking with opposite gender.Under-qualified Faculties : Most of the faculties who join this Institution are themselves from yet another Tier-3 College. Some of them join after completing their Post-Graduation here. Majority of them had never qualified UGC-NET nor GATE. Sometimes, they teach wrong concepts in class. Once in 1st semester, my Physics Teacher told “log(A)*log(B) = log(A+B)”. He holds a PhD Degree in Physics.Bizzare Dress Code for Lab : Students are forced to wear Blue Coloured Lab Dress thrice a week. Sometimes, you have to wear it on Saturday also if a teacher announces that there will be a lab session that day. I don’t understand why all branch students have to wear it. The management just wants to gain money by selling the cloth to it’s students. Remember the cloak which Harry Potter uses to make himself invisible. Similarly, the management thinks that by wearing their Lab Dress, we double our IQ and perform groundbreaking experiments successfully in the Laboratory. But instead it makes the students look completely insane and ridiculous to such an extent that when I was wearing it one day, a guy mistook me for a Security Guard.Improper Teaching Methodology : As, I previously stated, the teachers are under-qualified. Most of them never teach anything in class. They simply dictate notes in class. They also correct the notes of students to check if they are noting down everything what they are dictating. If a topic is difficult, they give it as a seminar to students. There are teachers who give entire chapter as seminar to students. The assignments are usually copy+paste from some book/webpage. There is zero learning from the assignments and Homework. We have to completely rely on NPTEL Videos for studying during Semester exams.Unprofessional Paper Evaluation : If a teacher develops a hatred for a student, then that student gets low internal marks regardless of whether he/she is studious or not. If you are a teacher’s pet and if your handwriting is good, you will be blessed with high internal marks. Once, me and a classmate of mine had got same mark in an Internal test(32/50 or 64%). Here comes the twist, since that classmate was a teacher’s pet, a mark higher than 64% was uploaded in the Anna University Portal but for me the same 64% was uploaded in spite of the fact that I have a better CGPA than that classmate. Also, I have zero history of backlogs but that classmate has history of backlog in one subject. When I confronted this injustice to the teacher, the teacher told me that she had scored more than me in the re-test. I know very well that I had done my re-test pretty good. I’m definitely sure that she had never corrected the re-test papers.Unhygienic Mess food : It is not uncommon to find bugs in your plate when you are eating in the mess. Those insects are more tastier than the crap food they provide.Supplying low quality books : In 1st year, the management collected 10,000 Rupees for books. The books they provided were all written by some local authors. Especially, the mathematics textbook was pretty much non-standard. I don’t know whether the maths professors in my college have read “Introduction to Linear Algebra” by “Gilbert Strang”. It is one of the best books for studying Linear Algebra. Instead, they provided a book from a local publisher.Useless Value Added Courses : Despite the hectic curriculum, students are forced to study completely irrelevant extra courses in addition to Anna University syllabus, named as “Value Added Courses”. In the 1st semester all the branch students are forced to study “Hardware and Networking” course. For Computer Science Students, it is okay to study that but for Mechanical Engineering Students, it is totally irrelevant and useless. Also, when there are so much beautiful courses like “Machine Learning”, “Human Computer Interaction”, “Data Science”, “Natural Language Processing”, “Pattern Recognition”, etc… the 2nd year Computer Science Students are taught “Web Designing”. They even collected 1800 Rupees for that course. They called few people from a local coaching institute and asked them to teach. It was a complete waste of time and money for the students. They just taught some basic HTML and CSS, which was already learnt in highschool.Rude Teachers : Many teachers especially the former Director “Manian” used to treat students like slaves. Sometimes, Manian even hit and slap the students even for some small mistake. He pulls the student by his ear, shouts and slaps his cheek violently. If you are found talking while walking to the exam hall, he tears the hall ticket into pieces and breaks your ID Card. You have to pay a huge fine for getting a new hall ticket and temporary ID Card. As per Anna University rules, a student should enter the exam hall at-least 10 minutes before the commencement of exam, but they ring the bell 30 minutes before the commencement of exam. If you didn’t go inside the Academic Building 10 minutes after the bell has rung (that is 20 minutes before the commencement of Exam) , the building will be locked and you will not be allowed to enter the academic building till 15 minutes has passed by after the exam has started. After opening the door, Manian shouts and lectures how irresponsible we are, by not being punctual on the exam day. This increases the stress levels before the exam. No extra time will be given. Thus, you may end up not being able to complete the paper on time. Once in 2nd semester, a chemistry teacher seized the phones of those students who were unprepared for a test.No choice for Electives : Unlike IITs and IISC where you are free to choose the subjects for a semester, here even there is no choice for electives. The whole class has to study the same elective subject, which the teachers will decide.Forcing the students to fill positive review in any feedback/survey : The management never collects feedback anonymously. We have to enter our name and Register number in the feedback form. So, they know who has filled what review. Often, all students fill positive review about a faculty, as we fear that they could award low Internal marks in the upcoming semesters. Recently, we were asked to fill NAAC Student Survey form. We were asked(Read forced) not to give any low points/Rating about the Institute in the survey.Outmoded Software in Lab : Some of the systems in the labs still use Windows XP. Please, don’t insert your USB onto any system. All sorts of malware and virus would enter in case you did.Bulky Record Notes : Have you ever found any IIT student writing pages and pages of observation note and copy the same in Record note as a part of any laboratory course. Here you are forced to do that. If you submit only your Record note instead of submitting both your observation and record note, your internal marks will be reduced. We never do most of the experiments in lab due to lack of equipment. During the practical exam if you are a teacher’s pet and even if you never performed the experiment you will still get S grade. One of my record note has around 400 pages in it.Torturing students before signing in the No dues form : Regardless of whether you are a topper or a student with many history of backlogs, the teachers are so sadistic that they make you write many tests and assignments before signing in the no dues form. Some teachers might even seize your Hall ticket before their respective exam if he/she thinks that you aren’t prepared. As a result your exam fees of 150 Rupees gets wasted and you end up getting a backlog.Lack of Holidays : At most you get 2 weeks of holidays as a Semester Vacation. The college reopens before the prescribed date of Anna University. If you are absent during this time, you will be punished severely. Once a group of 2nd year Computer Science students were absent for 2 days during this time. When they came back to college, they were made to stand outside the class for one whole day(from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm). They even conduct class on public holidays and Sundays in the name of completing the syllabus. If you are absent, you have to face huge consequences. Also, most of the Saturdays will be working days although they claim that only odd Saturdays of a month are working days.Treating students as Elementary School kids : Almost all students except few 1st year students are adults(age>=18). But the teachers treat students like 10 year old kids. For any small mistake you commit, your class advisor calls your parents and informs them. If you get a backlog in a subject, you have to bring your parents to meet the respective teacher.Poor Quality of Students : Some students are highly unmotivated. They are forced by their parents to study Engineering despite them having zero interest in it. They end up getting huge history of backlogs thus making them ineligible for Campus placements. They eventually end up without a job at the end of 4 years. Some students are Bullies. They shout at the top of their lungs. Every time they speak, they use the words which are tamil equivalent of madarc**d, behenc**d, chut**a, etc… People of different departments never forget to involve in fight whenever they get the chance. Also, it is easy for your valuable things like mobile, wallet, Record note, etc… to get stolen. No freedom to park vehicles outside the campus : The college authorities collect a huge parking fee from students for parking the vehicles inside the campus. In-order to avoid this, few students park the vehicles outside the campus in a nearby area. Once in August 2016, there was a protest because the management had punctured the wheels of few vehicles which were parked in front of a bakery adjacent to the campus. No freedom to go outside the campus between 8:30 am to 4:30 pm : If you want to take any print out or photocopy or if you want to eat in a hotel outside the campus, you have to either give your ID Card or provide an out pass. Once, I had to attend an interview, so I had to go outside the campus. The security didn’t let me out. Even I showed him the Interview Call Letter. Still he didn’t let me go out. I had to waste 30 minutes of my time in getting an out pass.Lack of Sports facilities : There was just one sports period in 1st year alone that too on a Saturday. Most of the time, some teacher will borrow that period. If you are a day scholar and interested in some sport, then you have to stay back and then practice it. For day scholar sportsmen coming far away it’s very difficult for them. By the time they reach home, they would have no time to study.Prolonged working hours : Day scholars are forced to stay till 5:30 pm in the name of ward counselling although the working hours get over by 4:30 pm . Most of the days, teachers conduct test during this time. They simply ask us to sign some form in the name of ward counselling attendance. This happens on Tuesday and Thursday. As a result, it takes upto 6:30 pm for the day scholars to reach home.Selling Student database : The college sells the student data to project centres and Coaching Centres. I was getting repeated Phone calls, SMSes and E-Mails from a Project Centre. That Project Centre has recruited 3 students from our college last year.Poor Wifi : The wifi speed is so slow that by the time it takes even a google homepage to load, you would have graduated. If you are a 12th Standard Student and if you are reading this, please don’t take admission in this college. Please do NOT use the counselling code 2727 during TNEA Counselling. My request to all those reading this: “Please share this answer so that no one opts for this college during admission.”UPDATE:-Replying to someone who asked “Why do you bother to apply there when you know it is bad?”. When I was about to join, I never knew about these things. I made a mistake before I took admission by not asking many people how the Institute is.UPDATE-2:-Replying to someone who says, “comparing a private college with an iit is crime, how can u do that? expecting a environment like iit in a pvt engg college is a foolish thing…”First, I definitely wouldn’t have compared had they not mentioned in my college Brochure that they have the best Graphical System Design Lab and CADD Lab in Asia-Pacific Region. Secondly, get your facts straight. Have you heard of BITS, Pilani and IIIT, Hyderabad? They are at par and even better than many new IITs.

How was your experience during studying at an IIT in the 1980s and 90s? How was the competition during those days for the IIT-JEE?

Interesting question! Also because I believe I am in a reasonably good position to answer it. I did my B. Tech. from IITK and was enrolled for M.Tech. at IITD where I was in a UG hostel, thus having interactions with UG students as well.My son is now in IITD and I’ve been interacting with him and his friends. It puts me in a position to also compare my time with the present one. I was also by the side of him while he was preparing for the JEE and can compare JEE preparations too- then and now.First the competition part.Coaching was generally not available, except a few metros like Bombay (now Mumbai!), Delhi, Hyderabad, Madras (or, should I say Chennai?), etc. Smaller cities like Patna, the place I am from, had some coaching institutes, mainly for state level competitions. They did enroll batches for IITJEE, as it was called then, but their claim to fame was that hardly any of their students ever entered IITs.Correspondence courses by Agrawal Classes (which I joined) and Brilliant Tutorials were the two main sources of preparation and study materials.Teaching in schools (and colleges as, in Bihar, 11-12 continued in colleges for some time) was an extremely important source of learning and preparation for the exams. Naturally, reputed schools/ colleges attracted good students and showed great results. Schools used to take pride on the success of their students in IITJEE.In DPS, R. K. Puram, for instance, sections were formed based on students’ scores in the 10th exam (CBSE later questioned this practice!), teaching in top sections was oriented towards IITJEE and good teachers were deployed in these sections to ensure better success rate in IITJEE. Best of students from all over the country with dreams of joining IITs preferred DPS, R. K. Puram. Not surprising, about 100-150 students went to IITs every year from DPS, R. K. Puram.I did 12th from Science College, Patna which used to attract best of students from Bihar. Students had the privilege of being taught by stalwarts like Asit Dasgupta, H. C. Verma, N.N. Sinha, S. C. Shaw, etc. Not surprising that Science College used to send about 40-50 students every year to IITs. Another important centre in Bihar was St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi. In short, teaching in 11-12 in school was important and was the main reason for success of students in IITJEE.The focus has now shifted to coaching institutes. Today, it is the quality of coaching, and the section in the coaching institute (one needs to be in top sections to get good teachers and do well), which is more important. Teaching in schools usually is not oriented towards JEE preparation. A student in a good/ elite school, where s/he may have to devote a lot of time on school works, may actually find it difficult to prepare for the JEE.Success rate in JEE from most of the good/elite schools is in fact very low now. Many of these schools have reoriented themselves towards SAT and international admissions which is considered an easier option if parents can afford.A JEE aspirant has many books/ coaching resources available now. So many that s/he can easily get confused. During our time, resource materials were limited. For example, Resnick & Halliday, Sears & Zeemansky and Irodov in Physics, apart from Agrawal Calsses. Life was simpler! There were only 5 IITs then. CS in IIT, Kanpur was the most preferred branch and used to close around AIR 40 and, in 1987, closed at 25. Total number of admissions was less than 1500. Approx. 150,000 students used to write the IITJEE. A ratio of 1:100.Compare the numbers now! There are 23 IITs with close to 11,000 admissions in 2017. About 1,200,000 students apply for JEE(Main). It is difficult to know the exact number of students aspiring for JEE(Advanced) as many of them do not target JEE(Advanced). My estimate would be: not more than 50% of JEE(Main) applicants target JEE(Advanced). The ratio of number of seats to number of applicants would be about 1:50 or so.Looks better than what it was 30 years back. But slightly worse (1:110) if the target is one of the 5 old IITs (which have about 5000 seats).Method of preparation is different now. Coaching institutes are more into passing on the tricks of solving a question. I notice a lack of emphasis on concepts. One teacher in a reputed coaching institute in Delhi would ask students to study the chapter themselves and he would take up only problems. In my opinion, it doesn’t work. Not even today!A teacher should focus first on developing the concepts and solve a few problems in the process. In order to maximize learning, students should be asked to attempt the problems themselves and get the assistance of teachers if they are unable to do it. Higher degree problems may then be discussed and solved in the class, to further strengthen the concepts.IITJEE included about 50% subjective questions, with step markings. These were considered better to test the concepts of students. Scores were never known but 60% was considered a very good score. 50% was usually enough to secure a place.Students now solve a large number of questions- about 200-300 every day. I have interacted with some of the top rankers of JEE(Advanced) as well as their teachers. Idea now is to practice so much that, during the exam, you get either the questions you have already done or at least similar ones. Unthinkable 30 years back! Also because of limited preparatory materials available then. One needed to be extremely lucky to get a similar question. As a result, one needs to slog a lot and examinations are very high scoring. In each subject, you can find quite a few students score 90%+. It however does not mean that IITs are getting better students now. During our silver jubilee get together at IITK, I found teachers complaining about the quality of students.Let us now come to the “Studying at IIT”.Batches were small and, therefore, the class sizes were small. Max batch size was of EE and ME- 50 each. These are now 100-120 each.Tutorials were taken by faculty members. Now, these are mostly taken by PhD scholars, especially in core years.I was surprised to see objective questions in internal exams (‘minor’) of some courses in IITD. Probably because class sizes are huge (in some courses, upto 400-450) and evaluating answer sheets with subjective questions is difficult. It was an absolute no for internal exams of IITs which focused more on test of concepts and writing skills.Classes upto 7 pm are now a part of the time-table. Back then, it was a rarity and never a part of the time-table.There is a remarkable improvement in interaction with industries. Many such sessions are organized where people from industries, and young entrepreneurs are invited to share their experiences. Students have much better exposure and a culture of entrepreneurship has set in.Quality of life in hostels has definitely gone down. Rooms are cramped, especially in old IITs. Double-seated rooms have been converted into triple-seated, and single-seated into double-seated. Oldies like me feel pained the way rooms have been converted. An extra bed with table attached and wardrobes split into two by drawing a partition either vertically or horizontally. With more students and little or no change in the number/ layout of washrooms, students at times have to skip the bath, sometimes by choice but many times due to long queue. At the same time, some of the newer IITs, like Guwahati, have facilities much better than what we got 30 years back. There is a cultural shift too. In 80s/90s, after the ragging period, a 1st year student was expected to call even a final year student by the first name. It promoted free interaction. It was also a necessity in the IIT system, as senior and junior students may enroll for the same course. Addressing a senior as “Sir” was prevalent in State level institutions (including my alma mater Patna Science College) but a strict no in IITs. Now, at least in IITD, seniors are addressed as “Sir”. Don’t know when and how this culture has seeped in.For most of the students, as well as parents, objective of getting into IITs has reduced to getting a good job. As a result, focus on studies is somewhat less. Back then, getting into IITs was a passport to go to US. For higher studies, ostensibly, but also for settling down in US, unfortunately. About 70-80 US scholarships/ admissions in a batch of about 260-270 at IITK was usual. It required greater focus on studies. With job being the main objective now, students make a conscious effort to build their CV. As a result, they focus a lot on project work, writing papers, extra-curricular activities, internships, holding positions of responsibility, participating in fest, etc.Standard of extra-curricular activities has improved. One has to really work hard for dance, music and sports events in order to win a place. During 80s/90s, extra-curriculars were just that- “extra”.On the whole, I would say life is more difficult now than then. Thanks for allowing me to reminisce.Edit: With reference to the para on assessment (and objective questions being asked now in internal exams), I would like to add that we had a few open book/ open notes exams. These were much more challenging than the normal exams. Memorising was of no use at all for such exams unless one has really understood and mastered the concepts. Books/Notes were not of much help. Learning was much better. In one course, the end sem exam was ‘take home’. We were happy when the professor announced it but soon realised that it was much more demanding and painful than the normal exams. As Vema reminded me through his comment, the biggest advantage of studying in an IIT system is that one gets to spend a few years of one’s life in a highly competitive environment in the company of some of the best and the brightest of this ocuntry. Apart from the quality of teacing/faculty/facilites, it is the single most important advantage of studying in an IIT system. The difference however has temporarily narrowed down with a large number of new IITs.

What is your review of University of California, Riverside?

★★★★The Case for an Overlooked University2013-09-16While searching for colleges to apply to, you may have heard about the University of California, Riverside, or UCR. Often an overlooked campus for its lack of top-achievers and applicant ignorance to the point of knowing nothing besides there being a river nearby (which there isn't), UC Riverside is definitely a campus worth considering.FactsLet's start with the facts. UCR is the sixth out of the ten UCs to be founded. It hosts 18,539 undergraduate and 2,466 graduate students. It sits in the Inland Empire, fifty-six miles east of Los Angeles. It's U.S. News ranking is 112th nationally, or 55th among public schools. [1] It also ranks 10th in Leiden University's Natural Science and Engineering rankings and 2nd in the Washington Monthly National Universities rankings. [3] All rankings were taken from 2013.UC RejectsNow when hearing about UCR, you may have heard the term "UC Rejects". This is quite the insult, but it was in fact justified. The exact nature of this term refers to the "referral" pool of UC applicants--those who meet the a-g minimum requirements to apply, but are not accepted to any of the UCs they apply to. UCs low on applicants offer these referral students an application, or "referral" to their school. In the past, UCRiverside took part in the referral program, but from 2011 on, UC Riverside has enough applicants such that they do not accept referral students anymore. [4] Therefore, the term "UC Rejects" is no longer justified.AcademicsAcademics are the most important part of any school comparison. When picking a school, the most important question should be "What is the quality of the undergraduate program for my major?" And like two t-shirts at Ross, two four-year academic programs are best compared by experiencing both of them and comparing from the student perspective. Unfortunately, most people do not have eight years to compare two different programs firsthand.I am a student currently enrolled in UCR's electrical engineering program, or EE for short. I will be starting year four in the fall. Even now, I am curious as to whether my education would have been better had I gone to another school, so I did the next best thing to experiencing two programs--I experienced one and read about another.During summer 2013, I decided to do my own investigation. I went to UC San Diego's advising office and obtained a copy of their EE program description with course listing. I also went to a professor's office and looked at the final exam for an "electronic circuits" class. Comparison between the UCR and UCSD EE program descriptions did not yield much--sure there was "multivariable calculus" on both programs, but this told me nothing of the actual rigor of the courses. For the more specific final exam that I reviewed, I did see some content that was not covered at my school, such as "frequency response of differential amplifiers," but there was also content in my course that was not on the UCSD final exam. In short, if it is hard for me to compare having experienced one of the programs, it would be nearly impossible for someone who has experienced neither program to compare well.Fortunately, there exists a solution to this difficulty in program comparison. A set of standards set forth by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) sets very specific standards on the material that should be taught in every course. For example, in the "Logic Design" standards, students should be able to "understand Boolean algebra", "design simple combinational logics" and be familiar with concepts such as "SR Latch, D Flip-Flop". [7] In other words, any school that is ABET accredited will exhibit the same material in all of their courses. As of this writing, all nine undergraduate UCs except UC Merced are ABET accredited. In fact, in November 2012, UCR's ABET accreditation was renewed for the maximum length of six years, with the visitors saying that the programs were "among the best they have visited". [8]These ABET requirements are rigorous as well--they are not like SFUSD's bare minimum graduation requirements, being so lax that the UC and CSU systems had to define their own standards. No, these standards are credible enough such that one of the requirements to obtaining "Professional Engineer" certification is to "Earn a four-year degree in engineering from an accredited engineering program" (ABET) [9] And with the programs being so difficult to compare and the ABET standards so definitive, U.S. News' only requirement for being on "Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs Rankings" is "a school must have an undergraduate engineering program accredited by ABET." [10] As far as how they are ranked, "These undergrad engineering programs were ranked solely on a peer assessment survey conducted in spring 2013", peer assessment being senior faculty and deans, whatever their perspective is worth on an undergraduate education. As for outside the engineering college, the situation is very similar. From the perspective of lower-division psychology and biology courses that I have taken, the standards are the same across schools. This is manifested by the textbook schools use. At both City College of San Francisco and UCR, the "Introduction to Psychology" courses that I took both used "Psychology" by David G. Meyers, the same textbook used in AP Psychology at Lowell. Leo, a personal friend of mine, told me Meyers is also used at UC Irvine. In my "Cell and molecular biology" course, the textbook was "Campbell Biology", the same one used in Lowell's AP Biology course. These textbooks are large and contain much material, but they are nonetheless the same across schools. What this ABET and textbook standardization means is that the material taught across schools is the same with very minor differences. This is especially true in the University of California, where lectures are only three hours per week per course, leaving most of the learning to be done at home, from the textbook. What will differ across campuses is the performance of the students. If your SAT score and GPA are well below the average for that campus, that is a good indication that you will be in the lower half of the class. This can be motivating--but at the same time it can be demoralizing. The right balance is needed.FacilitiesIn addition to great academics, UCR has excellent facilities that will benefit all students--not just engineering majors. All classrooms are very modern and come equipped with a ceiling mounted projector (often three), audience response system, desktop computer and wireless microphone. The newest classrooms even come with touch screens. Also present are things I wished Lowell had when I graduated in 2010: namely, online class enrollment and teacher evaluation forms. All of this allows for excellent instruction. The school is also constantly being improved. A million-dollar track was completed in 2012 as a result of the UCR episode of television series "Undercover Boss". [5] In the case of the student recreation center, where you may want to run, lift weights or learn martial arts, UCR's recreation center offers all the same facilities as UCSD's RiMAC, but with a better layout. (I have been to both) A recreation center add-on, due for 2014 completion, will contain triple the machines, indoor pool and more. [6]For engineering majors specifically, a new materials science and engineering building was completed in 2010, with another building scheduled for the future. Engineers are also supported by the UCR Library, where they have access to online research journals such as IEEE Xplore.EmploymentAs far as UCR grads being hired, I see my peers being hired full-time from large defense companies like Boeing, Northrop Grumman and other organizations like NASA. Even more obtain internships at Aerovironment, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and other engineering firms. In other words, companies look everywhere for talent.ConclusionNow after all of this, your opinion may not change. Relatively speaking, UC Berkeley, Los Angeles, and San Diego are still more selective and more prestigious universities overall. There is nothing wrong with applying to them. However, if your GPA and SAT score do not put you in a favorable position for those schools, know that there are several places, Riverside included, where you may still obtain a high quality education.[1] University of California--Riverside[2] Page on scrible.com[3] National University Rankings 2013[4] Students Clamor to Attend UCR[5] UC Riverside Track Facility to be Dedicated on Friday, March 2[6] UCR Recreation: Home[7] Page on ucr.edu[8] Page on scrible.com[9] What is a PE?[10] Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs

CocoDoc Unlimited This bundle is amazing value with its diverse programs. For example: ApowerPDF is worth the cost of the entire bundle. At last, I can ditch the expensive subscription PDF editor. The editor is so simple to use and it has built-in OCR for searching for text. I will use this daily. Apower Mirror - at last, a phone mirroring app that works first time. If you sitting at your computer all day, not only can I see my phone on my PC but I get notifications straight to my PC. Useful when people think I am ignoring them when busy at my PC. I have only scratched the surface of this amazing bundle. You get 14 multimedia apps, 4 cross-platform apps and six digital document apps. The PDF editor alone is worth the price of the bundle, which costs just $59.99 at the time of writing. If you don't want or need all the apps in the bundle, they are all available as individual purchases. Thank you CocoDoc for making my life simpler and cheaper!
