The main reason is the break-up of the Ugric family and the Ugric groups migrating in completely diferent directions.The Ugric branch of the Finno-Ugric linguistic family began to break up some 3500 years ago into Ob-Ugric (Khanty and Mansi) and Hungarian branches. While the Finnic languages formed a complete linguistic continuum from Volga to Baltic, the Ugric tribes migrated to completely different directions. The Hungarians (pink) migrated west, while the Khanty and Mansi (purple) migrated east.The Slavic expansion to Northern Russia finally caused the Finnic family to disintegrate into Balto-Finnic and Volga Finnic languages. I am a live proof of that. While Finnish and Estonian are not exactly the sister languages of Hungarian, they are at least second cousins.Finnish and Hungarian do not sound similar, but they are clearly relatives.If you write Finnish (which is the most conservative of all Finnic languages) and Hungarian on Hebrew alphabet (which marks only the consonants), the similarities are striking. Even more striking are similarities in vocabulary in specific, very old, topics, such as archery - with some imagination you can notice that both nuoli and nyil denote “arrow” and have the same consonants, and sarvi and szarv (horn) mean the “nocks”. The same applies to beekeeping.

They can be, I remember a tv report form years ago with a highland farmer who rode his highland bull like a horse around the farm. They walk about show rings on leads when trained to do so.PersonallyI knew 3 lovely friendly highland bullocks, they were in a couple of connected fields at Mugdock country park outside Glasgow. Lots of people fed them so they really liked people. We used one of the fields for archery, so had to get them into the other field and shut the gate. The worst job was enticing them - they saw human, they started running to human because humans mean food - it’s terrifying watching 3 big hairy beasts armed with long horns who could skewer you without even trying running at you. They might have stopped short and gently tried to cuddle… but I don’t know anyone who took the gamble.If you own and work with the animals you can take your chances based on knowing them, if not don’t take the gamble. I want a fence between me and those horns, then I’ll trust that it’s friendly.

This happened to me a number of years ago.I used to do archery almost every other weekend. One day I was riding my bicycle home from the range and had stopped at a red light. Four guys walked up to me and started acting suspiciously.With stopped vehicles to my left, one person directly behind me, one to my rear right, one to my front right and one directly in front of me, I was effectively boxed in. Red flag #1.Soon they started showing interest in my archery equipment; innocent curiosity is fine but their behaviour was saying, “We got you surrounded now, what you going to do about it?” and it was not what I would call friendly. Red flag #2.I told them to get out of my face but they just laughed and mocked me. This further instilled the feeling that this was not a case of innocent curiosity. Red flag #3.The next moment the guy in front of me made to grab my gear from me. Red flag #4.Before the guy could even touch my gear I struck out to prevent him from taking my things and made him kiss the pavement before anyone else could react.I then tried to continue on my way but one of the other guys grabbed my gear from behind and was able to yank it out of my hand and started to run away. Red flag #5.At this point, any lingering doubt I had was gone.They didn’t realize that I had more than 15 years of hard riding under my belt and could easily outrun them because the next thing they knew, I was hot on their heels shouting, “I’m going to rip your thieving arms off and beat you to a bloody pulp with your own severed arms.”Having just watched me floor their buddy with a single kick they were so scared that they immediately dropped my things hoping I wouldn’t continue to chase after them if they did.I then collected my stuff and finally continued on my way home where I reported the incident to the police.I never heard back about it, but I bet fools have thought twice before crossing someone on a bicycle ever since.After all, when someone has been riding for as long as I had been at that point, our legs can be considered our greatest weapon in a hand-to-hand fight, just ask the fool who probably thought that it was a mule that kicked him in the testicles.Before anyone tries to criticize me by saying I overreacted to nothing more than innocent curiosity, I will point out a few things.They were old enough to be college students.Like with firearms there is a correct way to go about it and from my perspective, they were not doing so in any way, shape, or form.The way they were acting made me feel uneasy.They refused to back off when told to.The police officer I talked to agreed that they were in the wrong.Also for anyone who is curious, my bow has a draw weight of 50 pounds with a 27-inch draw length.To put this into perspective at the time of purchase, this was the minimum strength the law required for taking down moose and black bear.
