PDF Editor FAQ

I got an EDD denial letter, than a day later an award letter. What do I do? What's my status? Do I wait for more mail?

In most states, you should get a debit card that will confirm that you’ve been approved for EDD. Things are a mess right now, as you might well imagine. The number of new claims for unemployment is rising again. Be sure that you make a serious attempt to find employment. Keep a record of every job you look at and every job you apply for. If there are reasons you cannot apply for work, you should keep a record of that status as well.

How do I know if my EDD SDI claim was approved?

The EDD will send you an award letter regarding your State Disability. Be sure to ask your doctor if they submitted their portion of information. Many times it is the doctors office that slows down the process because SDI must have that info. I would “gently” check with your physician’s office.

Why does EDD/UI online keep extending more weeks on my unemployment, but not how much money I have left on my claim balance? How am I suppose to receive money on all the weeks I have extended, but with no money to collect on my balance?

That is because currently, at last count, here in CA there are three claims.Your regular claim which is your first claim. That can be up to 26 weeks. Then the CARES extension which is 13 weeksThen the CA extension which is 7 weeks. In addition to this on one of these claims that fell between March and July 25 2020, you were paid the 13 weeks at 600 in addition to your regular benefit amount.Your parent claim had 26 weeks (or whatever number your award letter told you). When that balance reached zero, they filed the next extension which would give you 13 weeks at whatever the weekly benefit amount was on your parent claim. Then when that one ran out the department would have filed the CA extension for 7 weeks of whatever your weekly benefit amount is. So, yes, every claim filed had a decreasing TOTAL AWARD but the weekly benefit stayed the same. So, as a total you received 26+13+7= 46 weeks of unemployment benefits total at whatever your weekly benefit was on your parent claim.
