I don’t use diplomatic language.I was on vacation when I got a call from my boss.“Shannon, I need you to come in and cover a shift. We’ve had several call offs and a no call no show.”I pull the phone away from my ear and just look at it. I’m angry that I even got this call and even angrier that I’m being bothered on my vacation.I’m 1200 miles away.“I can’t come in. I’m not even in town. I’m on vacation,” and I hang up.Twenty minutes later, I get another call.“Shannon, you need to come in now. We are short and need help.”I’m getting frustrated at this point. I step out to take the call.“I already told you I can’t come in. I’m on vacation and I’m not in town. Please leave me alone,” I tell them and then hang up.I’m enjoying myself and all, when my phone rings again.“Shannon, I’m giving you five minutes to get here! I told you we are short and need help! Now get in here!”I’m livid at this point.I yell into the phone, “Look, I’ve told you all several times that I am on vacation and I cannot come in. I’m not even in town right now! Stop calling me!”I hang up.My boss calls back.At this point, I’ve lost all the patience I had.I scream at my boss that for the last time I am on vacation and to leave me the fuck alone. Their being shortstaffed isn’t my fault and it sure as hell isn’t going to be my problem.My boss threatened to fire me if I didn’t come in. I hang up and place a call to his boss and ask her to tell him to stop calling me and that I’m on vacation. I tell her everything that happened and how frustrated I was about losing my job for not coming in to work while on vacation and she stopped me.“Shannon, go on and enjoy your vacation. In fact, take two extra days. I will get this taken care of.”She hangs up.I get no more calls the rest of my vacation and have a ball.I go back to work and there’s a meeting. In the meeting, the administrator—my boss’s boss—makes a point to emphasize a new rule.No contacting employees when they’re on vacation.I can’t help but smile. I also can’t help but notice my boss isn’t present.Turned out that he stormed to her office and demanded my termination for refusing to report to work after my call to her.Turned out she didn’t agree. Boss storms out and goes back to the floor. Takes his anger out on staff.Staff complained and boss was sent home. Never came back.I can now take a vacation and enjoy it…no calls from work.

It never ceases to amaze me how readily conservatives are willing to accept the silliest premise without checking any facts and therefore making themselves look foolish.A typical 2 term presidency consists of about 2922 days (365 x 8 plus 2 leap days).Obama took 217 vacation days during his presidency United States Presidential vacations for a total of 7.43% of his total days in office.Now I don’t know what planet you’re on but on Earth, 7.43% is nowhere near “most of his presidency”. At least to me, ‘most’ would mean more than 50% at a minimum, but perhaps Republican mileage differs.So far (as of Aug 5, 2017) Trump has been in office a grand total of 197 days and has taken 24 vacation days. He is now going for a further 17 days.In the math used on this planet, 24 out of 197 days is 12.18%, or closing in on double the amount of vacation time that Obama took.Most presidents get criticized for the time they take on vacation but what makes Trump’s vacation time particularly egregious wasa) that he was particularly publicly vocal in criticizing Obama for vacation during the former’s presidencyb) that Trump publicly declared that he would take very little or no vacations during his presidency if elected (obviously another lie)c) since Trump is spending most of his vacations at his own privately owned golf clubs instead of the usual presidential vacation spots the security is costing far more than it normally would andd) Trump is personally profiting from this extra security at taxpayer expense because all these extra costs are being paid into his own businesses.But conservatives don’t seem to be able to see how bad the optics are of them criticizing Obama (with falsehoods) while at the same time letting their own guy get away with far worse while not making a peep about it.PS: Do you want to talk about 43’s vacation time now?
