Among the most famous examples are these: It rained for 40 days and 40 nights during the Flood (Genesis 7). Exodus records that Moses spent 40 days on Mount Sinai with God. Forty is the number of years the Israelites were required to wander in the wilderness until they were allowed to enter Canaan. Corporeal punishment in the Torah involved 40 lashes. Elijah fasted for 40 days prior to receiving his revelation on Mount Horeb. Multiples of 40 are also common: 40,000 men rallied to Barak in the book of Judges. The Talmud also reports wondrous phenomena occurring in units of 40. It also appears in mystical texts, usually as an element of purification. Thus the Book of the Great Name advises its readers to abstain from sleeping in one’s own bed for 40 days and nights after using the book, mimicking the time Moses spent away from camp while he received the Ten Commandments (Genesis 7; Exodus 24; I Samuel 17:16; I Kings 19:8; Gittin 39b, 40a; Sotah 34a).From: Bible Study website. The Meaning of Numbers: The Number 40Mentioning 146 times in Scripture, the number 40 generally symbolizes a period of testing, trial or probation. During Moses' life he lived forty years in Egypt and forty years in the desert before God selected him to lead his people out of slavery.Moses was also on Mount Sinai for 40 days and nights, on two separate occasions (Exodus 24:18, 34:1 - 28), receiving God's laws. He also sent spies, for forty days, to investigate the land God promised the Israelites as an inheritance (Numbers 13:25, 14:34).The prophet Jonah powerfully warned ancient Nineveh, for forty days, that its destruction would come because of its many sins. The prophet Ezekiel laid on His right side for 40 days to symbolize Judah's sins (Ezekiel 4:6).Elijah went 40 days without food or water at Mount Horeb. Jesus was tempted by the devil not just three times, but MANY times during the 40 days and nights he fasted just before his ministry began. He also appeared to his disciples and others for 40 days after his resurrection from the dead. The number forty can also represent a generation of man. Because of their sins after leaving Egypt, God swore that the generation of Israelites who left Egyptian bondage would not enter their inheritance in Canaan (Deuteronomy 1). The children of Israel were punished by wandering the wilderness for 40 years before a new generation was allowed to possess the promised land.Jesus, just days before his crucifixion, prophesied the total destruction of Jerusalem (Matthew 24:1 - 2, Mark 13:1 - 2). Forty years after his crucifixion in 30 A.D., the mighty Roman Empire destroyed the city and burned its beloved temple to the ground.Appearances of the number fortyThe book of Exodus, with its 40 chapters and 1,213 verses, is the seventh longest book. The longest is the Psalms. From the time they entered the promised land, to the time of King Saul, Israel was sporadically governed by a number of individuals known as Judges. Though they did not rule like a king, they nevertheless had a tremendous influence on the people, as they represented God and were inspired to execute his will. Judges who served 40 years include Othniel, Deborah and Barak, Eli and Gideon. The first three human kings over the children of Israel, Saul, David and Solomon, each ruled for forty years (1050 to 930 B.C.). After the united kingdom split into two separate pieces, King Joash served forty years as one of Judah's better kings.Abraham tried to bargain with God to NOT destroy Sodom and Gomorrah if forty righteous people were found (Genesis 18:29). Both Isaac and Esau were forty years old when they were first married (Genesis 25:20, 26:34).God flooded the earth by having it rain for forty days and nights (Genesis 7:12). After the patriarch Jacob (Israel) died in Egypt, the Egyptians spent forty days embalming his body (Genesis 50:3).How does the number 40 relate to humility?God allowed the ancient Israelites, from time to time, to be harassed and dominated by certain enemies in order to chastise and humble them for their sins. The Philistine's, in the southern and western parts of Israel's land, harassed them from 1105 to 1065 B.C. God's resolution to the harassment was Samson (see Judges 13:1, 1Samuel 7:13, 15 - 17).Additional info on the Biblical Meaning of 40The Bible was written by forty different people. Those called of God NOW are under probation, or judgment, based on how they live by every word of God.From :The Number 40: Ask the Rabbi Response - Aish.comThe Number 40In my Torah studies I keep running across the number 40 - for example, Moses on Mount Sinai for 40 days. Is there an underlying message of the number 40?The Aish Rabbi Replies:The number 40 has great significance throughout the Torah and the Talmud. The number 40 represents transition or change; the concept of renewal; a new beginning. The number 40 has the power to lift a spiritual state. Consider:When a person becomes ritually impure, he must immerse in a ritual bath, a mikveh. The Talmud tells us that a mikveh must be filled with 40 se'ahs (a measure of water). Immersion in a mikveh is the consummate Jewish symbol of spiritual renewal. It is no accident that in the story of Noah, the rain poured for 40 days, and submerged the world in water. Just as a person leaves a mikveh pure, so too when the waters of the flood subsided, the world was purified from the licentiousness which had corrupted it in the days of Noah.Moses was on Mt. Sinai for 40 days and came down with the stone tablets. The Jews arrived at Mt. Sinai as a nation of Egyptian slaves, but after 40 days they were transformed into God's nation.According to the Talmud, it takes 40 days for an embryo to be formed in its mother's womb.In Kabbalah, 40 represents the four sides of the world, each side containing the ten Sefirot (esoteric powers). When a rabbinical court finds someone guilty of a crime, the punishment is sometimes lashes, prescribed in the Torah as "forty less one." The purpose is to bring the offender to a point of change, transition and atonement. There are 40 days between the first day of Elul, when we begin to blow the Shofar to prepare for Rosh Hashana, until Yom Kippur, the end of the annual teshuva (repentance) period. These 40 days are the most auspicious time for personal growth and renewal.According to the Talmud (Avot 5:26), at age 40 a person transitions from one level of wisdom to the next. He reaches the level of binah - the deeper insight of understanding one matter from another. After Moses led the Jewish people for 40 years in the wilderness, he told them: "God has not given you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, until this day" (Deut. 29:3-4). From here we see that it took the Jewish people 40 years before reaching a full level of understanding. From: JewishEncyclopedia.comThe unedited full-text of the 1906 Jewish EncyclopediaFORTY, THE NUMBER:By: Morris Jastrow, Jr., I. M. CasanowiczIn the Bible, next to the number seven, the number forty occurs most frequently. In Talmudical literature it is often met with, in many instances having been apparently used as a round number or as a concrete and definite expression in place of the abstract and indefinite "many" or "some," and hence becoming a symbolical number. As regards the period of forty years, the Jews seem to have shared with other peoples, especially the Greeks, the notion that the fortieth year was the height or acme of man's life; and from this fact forty years came to represent a generation (compare Nöldeke, "Untersuchungen zur Kritik des Alten Testaments," p. 188).Forty Days. The rain which brought about the Deluge lasted forty days (Gen. vii. 4, 12, 17); the same period passed between the appearance of the mountain-tops and the opening of the windows in the ark (Gen. viii. 6). For the embalming of Jacob forty days were required (Gen. 1. 3). Moses was without food on Mount Horeb for forty days (Ex. xxiv. 18). Elijah wandered without food for the same period (I Kings xix. 8; compare also the fasting of Jesus previous to his temptation, Matt. iv. 2). Ezekiel was ordered to lie on his right side forty days, to represent the forty years of the sin of Judah (Ezek. iv. 6). Forty days were spent by the spies in Canaan (Num. xiii. 25); Goliath challenged the army of Israel for forty days (I Sam. xvii. 16; compare Soṭah 41b). The same number of days was granted Nineveh for repentance (Jonah iii. 4). They also form the period required for purification after thebirth of a male (Lev. xii. 2, 4), while after that of a female it is twice that number of days (ib. 5).Forty Years.Isaac married when forty years old (Gen. xxv. 20); so also Esau (Gen. xxvi. 34). Caleb was of the same age when sent as a spy (Josh. xiv. 7); and so was Ish-bosheth when commencing his short reign (II Sam. ii. 10; compare Acts vii. 23, where the age of Moses, when he was called to become the deliverer of his people, is given at forty years). Israel sojourned forty years in the desert (Ex. xvi. 35, and frequently elsewhere). The same period is given for the rule of each of several of the judges (Judges iii. 11), and for that of Deborah (v. 31, viii. 28; I Sam. iv. 18), as also for the reigns of David, Solomon, and Joash (II Sam. v. 4; I Kings ii. 11, xi. 42; I Chron. xxvi. 31, xxix. 27; II Chron. ix. 30, xxiv. 1). So also Israel was oppressed by the Philistines forty years (Judges xiii. 1). In Ezek. xxix. 11-13 a desolation of forty years is predicted for Egypt. A multiplication of 40 by 3, or three generations, is seen in the 120 years of the life of Moses (Deut. xxxiv. 7; compare Gen. vi. 6). Some (compare Wellhausen, "Prolegomena zur Geschichte Israels", 2d ed., 1883, i. 285) are inclined to see in the 480 years which are stated (I Kings vi. 1) to have passed between the Exodus and the building of the Temple of Solomon a multiplication of forty by twelve, or the round number of twelve generations.Forty in Counts and Measures.Among the presents sent by Jacob to Esau were forty cows (Gen. xxxii. 16). Ben-hadad sends "forty camels' burden" as a gift for Elisha (II Kings viii. 9). The governors before Nehemiah extorted from the people forty shekels of silver (Neh. v. 15). Abdon had forty sons (Judges xii. 14); Solomon, forty stalls of horses (I Kings v. 6). Barak's army consisted of forty thousand men (Judges v. 8); as many Syrian footmen were killed by David in battle (I Chron. xix. 18); and forty stripes were inflicted on certain evil-doers (Deut. xxv. 5). In the Tabernacle forty sockets of silver supported the twenty boards (Ex. xxvi. 19 et seq.; xxxvi. 24, 26); in the Temple of Solomon each of the ten lavers of brass contained forty baths; and in the Temple described by Ezekiel the "hekal" and the side-courts measured forty cubits in length (Ezek. xli. 2, xlvi. 22).Forty in the Talmud. The fortieth year is the age of reason ("ben arba'im la-binah," Ab. v. 26). Hillel (Sifre, Deut. xxxiv. 7; ed. Friedmann, 150a), Johanan ben Zakkai (R. H. 31b), and Akiba (Ab. R. N. vi.) set out upon their rabbinical careers when they were forty years old. To them, as also to Moses, is ascribed a life of 120 years, being divided in each case into three divisions of forty years each (Sifre, l.c.). Hillel's disciples were eighty in number (Suk. 28a). A woman marrying after forty can not bear children (B. B. 119b). Marriages are made in heaven by the announcement of the Bat ḳol forty days before birth (Sanh. 22a; compare Soṭah 2b). Forty times' repetition renders a thing unforgettable (Pes. 72a; compare Yer. Giṭ. vi. 47d). The extravagance of Pekah is characterized by his consuming forty measures of pigeons for dessert (; Sanh. 94b; Pes. 57a). Forty measures was the weight of each stone carried into the Jordan (Josh. vi.; Soṭah 34a). In connection with Ps. xcv. 10 it is said that the Messianic age would last forty years (Sanh. 99a).Forty in Temple History. The number forty had a fatal significance in connection with the destruction of the Second Temple. Forty years before this catastrophe the Sanhedrin "went into exile," that is, left the premises of the Temple (Shab. 15a; 'Ab. Zarah 8b). Rabbi Zadok spent forty years in fasting to avert the calamity (Giṭ. 56a). In the war of Bar Kokba forty measures of phylactery-blocks () were found on the heads of the slain at Bethar (Giṭ. 58a).The ritual purification-tank ("miḳweh") must hold forty measures of water (Miḳ. ii. 1 et seq.; compare 'Er. 14a). The measure of the heave-offering ("terumah") for a generous person () is a fortieth part of the produce (Ter. iv. 3). A dry season of forty days is the condition for ordering a public fast (Ta'an. 19a). On the other hand, the forty stripes of Deut. xxv. 5 are reduced to thirty-nine (Mak. 22a; compare II Cor. xi. 24). Forty is also given as the number is of the "principal labors" () which are forbidden on the Sabbath (Shab. 69a, 73a).From: ANGEL NUMBERS - Joanne Sacred Scribes: ANGEL NUMBER 40ANGEL NUMBER 40. Forgot why I wanted to copy the USB.I prefer cats over dogs because of many things: they tend to look better in pictures, they don’t make much noise (and when they do, I like their meows :D so nice), they can go to the bathroom indoors in the right spot whenever they feel like it, you don’t need tons of kitty food for one meower, they can know to use a scratching post instead, they tend to be nicer to me, they are usually fine with being inside all the time (which I recommend), and a bunch of other reasons.I did end up getting my new glasses and they look pretty nice on me :)Got my first glasses in 4th grade and now I don’t mind using glassesI never really decided on my favorite movie but as I said before it would probably be Big Hero 6.I don’t care if people know my age here, I’m 19 until the end of November. Not just “it could use a little fixes there” quality.I’m always using Google Docs with my college teachers so they can help me any time of day on my assignments I put there. It’s very useful for getting your work quality up, try it :DI like to try to make friends with people in my concert band classes but I’m just not that good at it sometimes. If they seem nice I might give them a contact info thing of mine so we can talk about band stuff. My favorite element might be gold because of how it looks, but I never really decided on a favorite. Sometimes I can’t decide on a favorite thing.I never really had a specific point when I started feeling genderfluid, I discovered the term later though and I knew I kinda started feeling that way more over time. There’s these two clarinet players I knew from my high school, who would hang out in my college’s café a lot for the first year of mine. During free time between classes, I liked to walk kinda near them but behind a short wall they sat near to see if they would say hi or whatever. Never happened :/I like checking vending machine coin returns a lot at my college, it’s not stealing if it’s left there and easy to get XDI change those coins to dollar coins so I can hang on to them compactlyI’ll be doing the above again when my 2nd year starts August 19In high school, or HS, I had 3 Italian classes (9th, 10th, and 12th grade). I tried remembering that stuff for facts here thoughThere’s this one flutist girl (her tuning was always around 15 cents off lol) who was in my band class who I’m calling A for now, and she was a 9th grader in my 11th grade. I don’t know her motive to this, but, she would sometimes say “hey person” to me a lot. All right, it kinda made me wonder if she liked me that way lol. However I only wanted to like A as a band friend then.I decided maybe around April that year to give A my phone number so we can be band friends. Hope she didn’t think I liked her that way back then though XD nah. That’s when I told her my real name and how I’m not “person” and stuff.Soon after, maybe around that evening, A’s little sister dug up the paper with my phone number and called me for some reason. Ugh, why did A have to leave it out like that lol… anyways her sister immediately though I liked A that way and I said “oh yeah I wanted to have a band friend. You probably shouldn’t assume things without enough evidence” and told A about it. A said to not worry about it and just block her sis’s phone number, which I did. Also in 12th grade concert band, there was this one clarinet (who graduated with me and would hang out in the college café like before) who was always flat. He somehow couldn’t get the tuning up even if all the mouthpiece was pushed in, which was weird. In HS, I liked to get to the lunch line really fast to get to my seat quickly. In MS, they had this chicken patty sandwich I really liked, and it was served daily. I liked to flatten it in its foil wrapping when I got it so it wasn’t so hard to eat lol.I never really was one to get in trouble in any of my schools, even less so later on.I got to work as a media aide in the library for 12th grade, I think also 11th grade. I might try visiting my HS sometime whenever I start driving to say hi to the librarian and it’ll be a surprise I’m sureIn MS I always had to use the small lockers they had every day and it used up some time. In HS I never had the need for lockers even though they were taller.I got to try Minecraft back when it was free online in 6th grade, in the library. I liked it but for a long time now that website doesn’t have latest Minecraft playable for free nowIn that library at my MS, they had these nice books about different elements of the periodic table. I liked to borrow them and what was weird was that their pages also smelled good XDIn any grade I just didn’t like PE classes. Sports always didn’t seem interesting to me and I knew it wasn’t something that would be contributing to what I was planning on learning.Back in the MS library, they sold school supplies for quite a lot. The 0.7 mm mechanical pencil lead was 10¢/piece which seemed like way too much.In both MS and HS, we always had annoying and surprising fire drills. I think other people might have had this.We had to face away from the building during MS fire drills but for HS, they didn’t care where you faced or if you were lined up.I never really cared about if people talked to me but now I am kinda trying to change thatMy 8th grade math teacher used to say I had photographic memory when I forgot to turn in my Math’s Mate homework and she had me finish that in the hallway for a bit when she had the grading answer key on the SmartBoard. I didn’t really mind though.I remember for sure I wasn’t ever late to any of my classes in MS and HS.I got perfect attendance awards a lot and somehow I was one of the maybe 2–4 people who did so in my grade each time I got them. Perfect attendance should be a really easy award… come on XDIf my teachers don’t specify a font for a typed assignment, I like to use Futura. It’s my favorite font.In MS, we got to use these remote devices called “clickers” to take quick multiple choice tests. They were nice to use.I only ever started using Kahoot in 9th grade but that’s when I started getting funny ideas for those games. When I was starting MS, I never really cared about the lack of playground equipment they would have at an ES for recess. I didn’t like sports stuff anyways lol.In school I liked to go outside when it was snowing during HS lunch/recess for MS and ES and when the staff allowed it. I just like it when it snows :)If you guys don’t know, I’m in the MDT timezone; you’re welcomeUnlike my first Quora friend Alex, I don’t really have a specific favorite snack or anything.I had 2 semesters of a gifted seminar class, one semester in both 7th and 8th gradeI wonder how it would be possible to make a stable paper construct tall enough to go from a common room’s floor to ceiling using only 2 letter size papers, limited square piece of clear package tape, and scissors.I never really liked standing in front of classes for doing my presentations but I tried to choose topics I would have less trouble presenting on.I would almost always set my Kahoot name on games to “°Δ°” just so people would wonder who that is. Basically I would see what they called the name, who won that 2nd place spot with that name, etc.I called “°Δ°” the deer face because it’s a surprised face like what a deer would make in sudden car headlights in the dark XDI chose another funny name for a Kahoot game once (a game I got first place in, ugh I wish I could remember that name XD) and people were wondering who got 1st place and I just kept my computer screen down. I wonder if anyone suspected then. Oh and the name might have been “•Γ•”, forgot exactly thoughOh and about the computer screen: in HS, we got these Apple computer laptop things we got to use for free unless you mess them up lol. I never messed mine up though.I really dislike when people form those wide, slow walls in school hallways. You can’t get around them or tell them you have to get though because of noise, and they seemingly want to delay you.In ES, I remember seeing stray roadrunners being weird outside during recess. They’re weird birds.I wonder if you guys would guess what state I used to be in during ES and MSIn 5th grade I got to play my first instrument (besides those recorders you get before that for music classes lol) and that was a rental alto sax, not my current one.I forgot exactly what made me like chemistry, I just found it really easy somehow. In 6th grade, my math teacher let me display a BTD game (one of those older ones) on the SmartBoard (during some free time I think) and people got to see me play it. It was nice.Sometimes I wasn’t sure of the relevance or purpose of movies being shown in my classes.I used to have a closer by mountain range to the east of where I was before I moved. Now it’s west and somewhat further away and I can’t get used to that still lolWe didn’t have laptops we could take around for free and that everyone had in MS, but I got to use this plastic typer thing that was old-ish that used AA batteries and could export its data to a computer with a USB plugin. It had an LCD screen too.In one of my MS classes though, a language arts class (probably 6th grade), we got to use these little baby laptops once in a while. They were pretty cool but so small and hard to use because of their baby trackpads and keyboards lol.Once, in that same class, my teacher was trying to get an overheating projector to stop doing its bluescreen thing and he thought he could use WD-40 to clear out dust for better circulation. I like to thing the projector got mad in the next part… you can guess what it did. It still kinda worked fine later though. After going on the bus for a few days, I found it more productive to just get picked up by my parents every day in 9th grade and later onAnother thing I did in 9th grade: I was bored in my Italian class, playing with Quizlet on my computer. I found out the lady who reads the flash cards has trouble pronouncing “one to the ninth” (aka 1^9), and said it like “one to the nineth”, saying ninth like “nin-ith”In ES, we might have been kindergarteners when we had these folding mat things that were red and blue. We used them for short duration nap times and stuff.I remembered that once someone else lying and saying if you take your socks off for that fact above, it makes a fire drill happen. It didn’t make sense XDIn that same class, I also remember a kid who pronounced the word “science” wrong and everyone else acted like it was the right wayI really don’t know why my kindergarten grade stood out more to remember lolFor that class we had this cup with named popsicle sticks for name drawing. We also had multiple pushpin-hangup decorations; one was a colorful calendar with velcro for months and day numbers, and clear plastic sleeves for inserts for birthdays and other things. This other pushpin-hangup decoration was for students’ behavior ratings and had plastic sleeves too, with each sleeve having someone’s name. Three colored card inserts would be in each in order of red, yellow, and green on the outside so you can take one out whenever. Our kindergarten class had these short tables too, and we would sit at different chairs wherever our name tags with those dashed lines were taped to the table at.Later grades came and I learned cursive writing but I never really seen any use to know itI never really used Prezi for presentations until a few times starting in 8th gradeIn my 8th grade gifted class we got to use this game level making flash game online called Gamestar Mechanic and I don’t know if anyone has ever used it here too, at least anyone reading this lolBack in ES, my art class (forgot grade, 4th grade or before) had both table numbers and paper-made art pieces hanging from the ceiling which looked cool and they spun from the ACUp to 4th grade we had little good behavior certificates based on the school’s mascot called “feathers” that were little papers with a short checklist on each. You could fill in whether you got it for being responsible, respectful, effort-showing, or safe. We would trade 5 for a prize or something I thinkMy ES’s mascot was also a state birdThe above applied up to only 4th grade because I moved before the beginning of 5th grade, but I moved somewhere else in the same city then. The new ES did a similar thing with feathers but they were called “dragon tickets” for their mascotAnyone remember having any index cards above your bus seats and procedures for I think leaving your seats and stuff? I did that in ES.It must have been 6th grade when I last went on a field trip in school… I missed doing those except walking around a lot and being outside sometimes lolI eventually did tell my GF I was genderfluid and she didn’t mind about it :)My computer as of now is doing stupid things because of its bad boot drive; it kicks me out randomly with a blue screen lasting 1/3 of a second or so and doesn’t boot up right sometimes :/ but this is my last fact I thinkIf you made it to the end of this and read through, cool :) I just thought of a bunch of stuff to put here so sorry if it was too long and stuff. Talk about any of these if you want and have a good day too :D
