In pretty much every zip code in Memphis there is really good barbecue. The kind of barbecue that would draw lines in other cities! Tops is one of the oldest and still very successful. Many times I stop on my into town cause I can’t eat something like McDonalds when I know Memphis is coming soon. I also stop attimes to buy a 6-pack to ease me back into the reality that I live far from Memphis BBQ pits.We have a different expectation than many but there is trust great barbecue in quite a few areas too.My family prefers Central BBQ which has several locations around town, including a great location that recently opened downtown. My favorite thing to order is the dry rub ribs with mac n cheese and green beans as my sides. We always ask for Texas toast inside of the rolls they usually put with the plate. I get hungry thinking about it!A lot of visitors rave about the Rendezvous. It’s good for sure and the atmosphere is great. It is really convenient when you are downtown. I like it, really, but I go there when others make the plan, not when I choose. Corey’s is another local chain that can be good and may have a location close by.Other places I actively seek out are further into neighbors where locals frequent. Locals love Payne’s in Orange Mound, the Food Network drew lots of deserved attention to Neely’s Interstate Barbecue in South Memphis, Cozy Corner in north Memphis is tucked away so few know it is there and the Germantown Commissary comes through from those out east.I am surely missing some important ones, but that gives plenty of ideas.

Knoxville is a big tourist area on the East Coast, especially because it’s so close to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. One of the big attractions in Knoxville is Market Square where you will find some of the area’s best restaurants. On the warm summer days, it’s very relaxing to sit at one of the outside tables sipping a cool drink while watching kids play in the fountain or listening to one of the street musicians playing for our entertainment. There are various music theaters and groups performing on Market Square. The Square also plays host to many cultural and seasonal events.Historical SitesKnoxville is also known for its historical sites and tours, such as, Gun Slinger Tour, Old Gray Cemetery, Ghost Tours, Historical Downtown, Blount Mansion, Bleak House Tour, Mabry-Hazen House. Knoxville also has a Food Tour, Knox Brew Tours.The Blount Mansion known as the “house with many eyes” housed Tennessee governors and prominent families. It was built by William Blount, a signer of the United States Constitution. Blount chose to build his home in Knoxville after signing the treaty of the Holston on the banks of the Holston River, which was just a few hundred yards away from the Mansion’s location. The mansion served as the territorial capital, as well as the Blount family home. Later, it became slum housing on the Knoxville riverfront. It was saved by the preservationists and stands today to tell stories of Knoxville’s growth and history.The Star of Knoxville is a vintage paddlewheeler. The Tennessee Riverboat company was founded in 1994 as a tourist attraction for Knoxville. The Star of Knoxville has two decks with a capacity of 245 passengers. A dinner cruise provides an excellent dining experience with live music while cruising the Tennessee River. You can also enjoy your favorite drink while watching the sites. During the cruise, you will notice the paddlewheels are the only means of propulsion for the boat.Women’s Basketball Hall of FameIf you are a sports fan you will enjoy the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame whose mission is to “Honor the Past, Celebrate the Present, Promote the Future of women’s basketball.” The Hall of Fame’s featured artifact is a 1913 Spalding Official Guide for Women’s Basket Ball. You will find out about Senda Berenson Abbott who is considered the “Mother” of women’s basketball.Football Hall of FameLiving in Knoxville you can’t help but be a football fan. Upon moving to Knoxville ten years ago, I was informed that to live in Knoxville you must be a football fan. I’ve discovered that is true. So, of course, there is the University of Tennessee Football Hall of Fame, an on-campus museum honoring more than 100 years of accomplishments by the UT Volunteer football team.If you are a museum buff, Knoxville features: The Knoxville Museum of Art, Frank H. Idealy you can higher a family member or family friend that you can trust (has a good driving record and vaild DL) You can also compare what a mini van rental with motel rental, cost of food etc would be. Because of t the dogs planes and trains, and Greyhound are not options.
