It is funded and ran by industry and their philosophical allies. Their tactics are similar to, and often the same, as the tobacco companies who say cigarettes aren’t addictive and unhealthy.An example is the global warming petition, also known as the Oregon petition. First the people who created it used the same letterhead as the prestigious AAAS scientific body. They were trying to say that this scientific denial was support by leading scientists. The AAAS had to threaten to sue them and put out a public statement disavowing the petition. Once the petition is examined, it gets worse. Most of the signers are not climate scientists or scientists at all. Most are doctors and engineers. Many of the names are fraudulent. The signers include the Spice Girls and doctors on TV shows, not actors themselves. It was signed as the doctors and nurses on ER, for example.
