What do you mean "little happened"? After his rather stunning student film came the feature version of THX 1138. Then came American Graffiti, which was a critical and box office success. It also completely changed the business of movie soundtracks forever.You may have heard of one of his later films: Star Wars, which was a massive hit and completely changed the movie business forever. There were even a couple of really good sequels to it that formed a trilogy.That's not "little happened". And it proved that he was not a "one-hit wonder".If you're wondering where Georges "secret sauce" went, he divorced it during the making of Return of the Jedi. Marcia was the one who could tell George "no" creatively. She was the editor and secret weapon on his earlier films.The other thing that happened shortly after is that George ended up surrounded by sycophants who would not tell him "no". He's one of the nicest, meekest guys on the planet. Nobody could keep their bearings long as an object of worship.Yes, the money helped him get to that place, and he was a leaner filmmaker when he had budget limitations, but it's not just money spoiling talent. They often take the anecdotal evidence from a couple of failed marriages they see and extrapolate to the world. Many mistakenly think marriage or career, when such a dichotomy is artificial. In healthy marriages one might be able to pursue both. Such unawareness makes parents often anxious as they don't want their kids to end up with the same set of known mistakes. This anxiety makes them force their kids into another set of wrong decisions.Ultimately, family like any other human relationship brings in its own risks. Like every other form of social organization we can end up with the wrong connection. However, the riskiest thing in life is to not take risk at all.
