It was my cousin's wedding. My brother bought a pair of shoes , ordered a suit for the wedding day and 2–3 shirts and trouser for other events. He was done.I was not ready even up to the day of wedding.Ummmm. So since the day wedding date was decided.So, I need a suit for the path(prayer done a day before wedding day., a suit for the dance night(jaago), and two sexy out of the crowd look dresses for the main event. So I had to choose what color will look good on me. And a lot more.So it took me long to first decide what will be the crowd dress, decided to wear a sari and afterwards a plazzo.And now that dresses were decided . Next came the footwears. Flats for the Sukhmani sahib path day, heels with the sari and Punjabi jutti for jaago. Not to mention had to go to two different places for getting the heels and Punjabi jutti.;pAnd then the Kohl, lipsticks, mascara, waxing, ear rings, and etc etc.And yeah the hairstyles, it's a mammoth task, what hairstyle will suit with what dress.YeahPhewwww, being a girl is really tough. Agreed?

What we should first take into account is that Gurbani is written entirely in poetry, and what happens when we translate poetry, it losses it true feeling and message. Another reason is the depth and complexity of bani and how translating it into English were one word means one word, it again losses it’s meaning. In Punjabi there are many words that connot be translated because of the scale of words that don’t exist in English and have more than one meaning or mood depending on context used. I would advise to learn Gurmukhi, it’s actually a very simple script that I taught myself to read fluently in two weeks. You can use translations sometimes along the way to help you grasp the message but by reading the entire path in English, you are not going to receive the same message or experience the beauty of gurbani.

Superstitions have nothing to do with Sikh religion. The Sikh Guru's opposed untouchability, Sati Pratha or superstitions and made everyone aware. They only arise due to fear of mentality that if something wrong happened it was due to that event or due to culture sharing from other communities like Hindus, Muslims, Christians who have some common superstitions with passage of time. In pre vedic era Hindus were never superstitious as wellSome of the superstitions among Punjabi's are only due to fear or culture sharingCat crossing your path this has nothing to do with Sikhism in fact most of my Punjabi Hindu neighbors and friends tell me to take the car back if a cat especially black crosses your path and also my mother has this belief as my mother had a lot of Hindu friends. What if I tell you in USA domestic cat fostering is equal with dog unlike India where you are giving your +2 board exams and suddenly a cat crosses your path and your mommy told you not to cross her pathMy grandma would burn chillies and see the color texture to Wade off any evil eye this was actually done in Pakistan and my Grandma was born in Mian Channu,KhanewalSometimes my grandma would take a salt and circulate on my face to wade off any evil eye and then she would threw that salt in wash basin or kitchen sinkMy grandma would never let me go outside with open hair as once my hair was little cut I don't know how maybe science could be a factor and my grandma also told me to stay away from neighbors as most of other neighbors in street too believed she did some evil spells don't know as a child I was completely innocentSome people say not to keep slipper above slipper I don't understand the logic they say it leads to conflictMost of Sikhs believe that if any hawk/falcon comes inside Gurdwara it's of Guru Gobind Singh Ji now this can be termed as superstition related with some Sikhs but it's intense devotion of some holy figure that leads to such superstitions take an example of Cow as per Swami Vivekananda many references you can see of beef eating mentioned in pre vedic era and it was habit to sacrifice bulls before a battle but slowly food habits started combining with caste habits too with purity and impurity based on caste hierarchy. I ate beef,pork,chicken,mutton,fish,shrimps,lobster,duck and I have many Sikh friends who are veg I never talk of non veg in front of them because I know their sentiments but mark my words most supreme is spirituality,devotion and meditation and not this entire drama but eating too much non veg can lead to diseases,high cholesterol,bp,tapeworms especially pork if not hygienic so eating non veg is my personal choice or freedom but I recommend not other Sikhs if they are not comfortable as verses of bhagat kabir emphasized on complete vegetarianism but guru Nanak said “Maas Maas Kar Murakh Jhagrhe Gyan Dhyan naa jaane” when pandits wanted to kill king as he ate deer during solar eclipse that happened exactly at Kurukshetra in one of Guru Nanak's Udasi'sDeras or nowadays say Christian missionaries which want to make Sikhs away from their religion or rights have made superstitions themselves they call some random actor and show Sikhs they have performed exorcism. Most of ghosts always come inside them but why not Sikhs we never see such acts in Gurdwaras? This is just a superstition yes the ghosts may or may not exist but we all have a ghost inside too (it's skeleton of course) this happens when you focus a lot on horror stuffs and fear of mentality is the reason or schizophrenia and you start being paranoid for no reason after reading stories and can't sleep even thinking about ghosts and that Peepal tree sight stuff since childhoodBelief in Grehan or solar eclipse or belief in marriage dates of auspicious or inauspicious which is more prevalent among Punjabi Hindus I have started to see many Amritdhari Punjabi Sikhs nowadays going for matchmaking due to this culture sharing they say of (Rahu Ketu n Again) my uncle was told by Pandit he would be divorced but nothing like that happened my uncle might have golden jubilee too one day. The Sakhi of Guru Nanak in Kurukshtra, Haridwar is completely against superstitions in kurukshetra he spoke against solar eclipse and in Haridwar against throwing water towards sun for ancestors he in fact said he is throwing water in opposite direction to his crop fields as Guru Nanak dev hi was not only a social reformer but also a farmer,trader and clairvoyant who knew of India's future that's why he started Langar Pratha and eradicated social evils like veil wearing especially third guru as well Guru Amar Das JiIn Fact Hindus were never superstitious in pre vedic era but with passage of time a man named Manu came and added his own beliefs into texts He manipulated them he created fear among locals and less among his own Brahman people which slowly got added and turned into superstitions in everyone's mind even nowadays Brahmans. He (Manu) divided people into castes and from there onwards came these superstitions and dramas that not to see sight of the locals whom they call Shudras,they should not chant Mantras,not hear Mantras. Sikhs made those Shudras not only Khalsa’s (Pure) but also gave them even Zamindari (land ownership) that he would be given land as he ploughs and also kingdoms to most of those in reality the Ramgharias are OBC's we all know but they also got one of Sikh Misl too and also Ahluwalias as Sikhism wanted equality and Guru Gobind Singh Ji granted Amrit to abolish caste system and that is how most of Jatt Sikhs became landlord's in grant as Banda Bahadur gave them zamindari and now they have inherited.I am proud of such a beautiful religion called as Sikhism. Every religion is beautiful but with passage of time people become arrogant and try to oppress others and make them believe in them. Muslims and Christians belief in Jinns and demons might be true to some extent but most of things can't be scientifically proven they also arise due to fear of mind and negative thoughts. Daily Sukhmani Sahib paath can never cause any harm I believe.There might be negative forces too I don't deny completely and it's not superstition I think as Gurbani says in some verse “Kai Kot Bhoot” but the Waheguru who is Omnipotent,formless and monotheistic is supreme above all if you go to Gurdwara,Do Paath and do sewa,help others and get mind satisfaction you will only be surrounded by positivity not negativity and not fear of such things you will never occupy your mind with such stuffs because fear,failure in achieving something,sudden accidents or incidents and negativity can cause arise in superstitions and friend circle.
