And in the Qur’an they are all called “messengers” or anbiya.It is evident that Muhammad recycled the stories that he has heard from Jews and Christians for his Qur’an. Since the man was illiterate, a lot of information has been lost:Muhammad thought that every protagonist of the Bible was a “prophet.” Hence, Muslims call the above list “the 25 Prophets of Islam.” The fact that in the above list includes patriarchs, the first human, kings, the Son of God, and secondary characters of the Bible who never had any revelation from God, was lost on Muhammad.It is also very suspect that Muhammad only included stories about Jesus that were in circulation in the area around Mecca and Medina. I am talking about stuff like Syriac Infancy Gospel or the Proto Evangelium of James (see: Syriac Infancy Gospel - Wikipedia). That those stories would be considered heretic material (or Apocrypha at best) by mainstream Christians (read: Byzantines) of Muhammad’s time was once again lost on him.There are several mix-ups and errors in Allah’s/Muhammad’s version, for example, Mary, the mother of Jesus, seems to be Miriam, sister of Aaron as well. Haman from the Book of Esther became the Pharaoh’s second-in-command during Moses’ time. And the Christian Trinity is described as Mother, Father, and Son.If we can be sure of something, it is, in fact, Muhammad’s illiteracy.It is therefore quite misleading if the Muslim apologist claims that a Muslim has to believe in Jesus as well to be considered a Muslim.
