Rajiv Gandhi is a loss to BJP.You have read it right.It is neither a typographical error nor a mad statement.Statistics are available.facts are there.Let me elaborate.In 1991 elections were held in two stages. first in 20th may 1991 and two months later.(Postponed due to Sri.Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination.Congress bagged 232 seats with a voting % of 36 while BJP bagged 120 seats with a voting % of 20. But BJP has bagged 92 of its 220 seats in First phase of elections 186 seats, while remaining 29 seats in remaining 317 seats, which were held in mostly northern staates where BJP is strong. In 1st phase Bjp polled 35% while congress polled 28%.Here is an extract from Pranoy roy of Times of IndiaWas there a sympathy wave in Congress(I)s favour following Rajiv Gandhi's assassination?Nation-wide there was a swing away from the Congress(I) of 5.7 per cent in the first round of voting in May, which changed to a swing in favour of the Congress(I) of 1.6 per cent in the second round of voting in June. Consequently, it would appear that the assassination was definitely a factor in increasing the Congress(I)'s vote percentage. The increase in turnout in the post-assassination voting seemed to have been an important factor in the Congress(I)'s improved performance. Voters who may have been leaning towards the party but may not have been motivated enough or too a pathetic to vote eventually, were jolted by the tragedy into coming out in larger numbers to vote for the party during the second phase of polling. For example, the voter turnout in Bihar rose from 56 per cent in the first phase to 63 per cent in the second phase.The Bihar swing of 6 per cent against the Congress(I) in the first phase was converted to a swing in its favour of 1.8 per cent in the second phase. In Madhya Pradesh too the turnout shot up from42 to49 per cent, and the swing in favour of the Congress(I) rose correspondingly by over 4 per cent. Rajasthan witnessed the sharpest change in Congress(I) fortunes between the two rounds of polling. From a small 2 per cent swing in its favour, the June round swing was a massive 14 per cent for the Congress(I). At the same time the turnout went up by 5 per cent. But an increase in turnout of Congress(I) voters was clearly not the only factor.In most states there was also a switch in voters to the Congress(I). In Andhra Pradesh, about 9 per cent of the Telugu Desam voters deserted the party in the second phase of polling. In Bihar both the Janata Dal and the BJP lost considerable votes to the Congress(I). In Rajasthan the BJP was the prime loser. In Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, the Janata Dal lost heavily while the BJP held on to its support in Uttar Pradesh and gained in Madhya Pradesh in the second phase.But due to sympathy wave due to Sri. Rajiv Gandhi’s assasination, BJP lost (or rather congress gained) about 10% which shifted in congress favor. Had the assassination not happened BJp would have become majority party or single largest party and would have formed government and Sri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee would have become Primeminister.Then the entire political picture have been changed. Sri. Manmohan singh would have been spending happy retired life by now. Due to better health Sri. Vajpayee would have been given india scam free government for 15 more years. BJP would have been more stronger now.

UNLIMITED CHICKEN SUPPLY PROMISE!This scam happened in Chennai, India way back in 1996.THE PROMISE:Pay a one time fee of Rs.15,000 (Around $230) and get 2 Kg chicken supplied to you every Sunday morning FOREVER.Of course, the cost of 2 Kg of chicken was pretty low compared to the one time charge he has asking, but its UNLIMITED returns. The promise is that he would supply to that house forever, even after the death of the person who has paid. His children will continue to get the chicken every Sunday. How about that for an offer?THE SETUP:The apartment complex was huge and he had to make atleast few people take the bait, so the vendor gave this offer totally FREE for 5 people. He enquired causally and selected 5 women. Don't ask me why he picked women. Maybe he assumed that women spread information faster :-)Anyways, he started supplying chicken as promised every Sunday and it was good quality too. This kept happening for 3 weeks and the news spread like wild fire. Initially, he even refused to take in new customers as "his priority was to serve existing customers with good quality chicken". This technique kind of added on to the scheme's attraction and people were dying to become members. So later, he informed the community that he has secured a huge deal with several poultry farms and can now guarantee that he can include more people...THE RESULT:Almost the entire non-vegetarian population of the area signed up for this hoping they can enjoy chicken forever and dug into their savings to cough up Rs.15,000 per household... This included more than 5000 individual registrations. He also added a combo plan for those who want more than 2Kgs. The result was that he pocketed more than Rs.7,50,00,000 (Rs.7.5 Crores or $1.1 Million)AFTERMATH:His rented office suddenly became empty one day and he was never seen again! Adios!I believe he managed to pull off this trick by being very patient and sincere in his approach. His tactics included the following:Prompt supply of chicken on time. He maintained the delivery schedule to impeccable standards. For example, if he delivered the chicken to flat no 102 @ 6am and Flat 304 @ 6:15am, it would almost be exactly the same every Sunday. People used to discuss that they use him as the alarm clock since he never comes late. This added on to the flavour that he is very sincere. (He was really sincere, but in conning them)Quality: The fellow actually spent some money to ensure that he supplied really good quality chicken. This is what most people were waiting to check. People used to even share some of the cooked chicken with neighbours to check for taste and quality.Initially refusing to add more people: This was the masterstroke. Instead of looking greedy, he put on a 'sincerity' face and convinced everyone that he is worried about ensuring supply and that the satisfaction of existing customers is paramount. He continued this act for few weeks wherein the existing customers felt like gods and would talk to others about how lucky they were.Packaging: The fellow also spent time and effort in packaging the chicken well in a good box. This was almost never known to vendors as most of the sellers just dumped the chicken in black coloured plastic bags.Grand Announcement: He made the big announcement that he would take on more people to "serve them" and as expected, it was a mad rush. He also increased the price a little bit saying the has to hire few more helpers and that it's not easy maintaining good quality. The icing on the cake was when he told that the next large batch of admission which he planned after 3 months would include a price increase of 30%. So people forgot about everything and just wanted to register on the same day!He studied human psychology and preyed on our weakness. Have we learnt the lesson after all this education and internet revolution? Tax PolicyP.S:Like I mentioned earlier, this scam happened in 1996 and the only media coverage it got was from just 2 local Tamil Newspapers. Trying to get online references for this incident is next to impossible :(Some believe that people are not that dumb to just give 15,000. Come on, we have had instances where people have dumped lakhs in finance companies that didn’t have a license to operate. So 15K considering the good cover-up tactics deployed by this con-artist made this happen…Thanks to Raghu Vamshee M who pointed out to a similar scam that happened in Bangalore for vegetables. What are the Karnataka equations now? How does a loss matter to the BJP for 2019?Winning of Karnataka assembly election of 2018, is very important and crucial to both the Congress as well as the BJP. If Congress loses Karnataka, then the footprint of the party, which was in the forefront of the freedom movement, and whose leaders had made huge sacrifices during the freedom movement, is going to shrink still more and the only major or minor state it would be ruling would be only Punjab.For BJP it is also important to win Karnataka and add another state to it's tally of states ruled, either directly or in coalition. It is already ruling many states all over the country including Jammu and Kashmir. But more important than adding to the tally of BJP ruled states, the importance of Karnataka lies in the fact that it is a south Indian state. And there is no state in the South India which BJP rules directly or in coalition. At present Karnataka appears to be the only state where BJP could win. There is a lot of negative sentiment against BJP in the Andhra Pradesh, slightly less in Telengana. There is a strident opposition to it in the Tamilnadu as well as Kerala. So only Karnataka appears to be a doable.There are three major players in the field, the Congress, the BJP, and the JD(S).On the surface all parties are contesting separately. But the role of JD(S) is unpredictable. The Congress high command had left most crucial decision regarding these elections to the incumbent CM, Mr. Siddaramiah. Mr. Siddaramiah will not ally with JD(S) which had expelled him, and with whom he had been associated for long years. So JD(S) could only ally with BJP or fight alone. But experience of Mr. Yeddyuruppa with JD(S) had been that of betrayal. Would they still ally with JD(S), would depend upon how they percieve the ground reality.Even JD(S) is fighting for survival. Mr. H. D. Deve Gowda is getting on in years and like previous three or four elections to the Vidhan Sabha or LokSabha is making the emotional pitch that this election is his last one and heresfter would leave electroral politics. Though older than the other leaders, his physicsl fitness needs to be admired. He climbed on foot right upto the top of the hill for the recent Mahamastak Abhishek at Shravanbelgola.But my feeling is Mr. Siddaramiah has an edge due to his scam free reign of 5 years and his pro-poor and pro-people image.
