PDF Editor FAQ

I am a BTech (CSE) graduate from India (Gujarat). How do I apply for an MS program in the USA?

Start your preparation by at least 18 months earlier to your intended semester. You can follow these steps:Take a sample GRE test (Most preferably power prep I). If you score a total of 300 for example, then you can guess your final score to be in between 315-320.Then analyze your profile (take a note of all research papers you published, going to publish and project work).Go through the similar profiles in Stupidsid.com or Edulix and short some universities (around 4 univs). Then start preparing for GRE and make sure you reach your target of 315. After the exam is done, select the 4 universities you shortlisted for Educational Testing Service (ETS) to report your scores to (by this way of selecting universities beforehand, you can save $100 here).Apply for TOEFL or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and prepare to get the minimum score required by your department in the universities selected. (with TOEFL of IELTS – British Council you can save $72 by selecting universities beforehand)After you are done with these exams, start preparing your SOP. At the same time, reach out to your professors asking for recommendation letters. Help them prepare recommendation letters on your behalf. Also get the required no.of sets of transcripts from your university.Once you are okay with SOP and required LORs, open the university website and fill out the online application. After completing this application, you'll be required to upload scanned copies of mark sheets.Complete the online application, pay the application fee, wait for university to send a mail with student id and finally courier the transcripts to those universities (Make sure you mention your student id on top of the cover).Wait for university to mail its decision. If accepted, they'll ask you to send bank statement showing liquid assets amounting to 1 year of expenses you are going to spend in that university along with affidavit of support (link to this affidavit will be sent to you in the acceptance mail) and also they'll ask you to get some vaccinations done. After approving your bank statement, they'll send you the I20.On receiving I20, pay your SEVIS fee and apply for F-1 Student Visas (US).Once your visa is approved, you are free to go.I guess, I have covered all the steps here. If needed further clarifications, you are free to pm me.All the Best.Edit1: sorry guys your have to start your preparation before 18 months, not 1 year.

How can I get a high score in the IELTS?

I got an overall score of 8.5(L:9, R:9, W:7.5, S:8) in IELTS GT with around 2 months of preparation.Due to my extremely busy professional and personal life, I was able to spend just a couple of hours every week to prepare for the exam. At a minimum, I recommend 1 month preparation for this exam with strategic planning of individual sections. Here are my suggestions for each section based on my experience:Listening: 9.I used the CD provided with the official guide to practice for this section. After carefully reading the guide for details on this section, I was able to identify a few areas for improvement by reading through the book. You need to pay careful attention to details like spelling of people's names and places. You must also pay attention to the details like day of the week, date and time as you listen to the conversations. You must also keep in mind that if you get confused on a question, just move on to the next one. If you keep wondering about one question, it is likely you will get at least 2 more wrong as the speakers speak fairly fast. Practice is the mantra. I did all the practice tests in CD as listening and kept improving.Reading:9. I believe this is the most difficult section and there is no alternative except more practice. The most important thing to keep in mind in this section is usage of synonyms. For example, a paragraph could be about the “benefits” of technology and question might refer to the same section as “advantages" of technology. You need to be able to correlate them.Writing:7.5. Although my score was disappointing in this section, I believe I was lucky to get even a 7.5 with just 1 day of preparation. You must practice writing at least 5 essays for both Task 1 and Task 2. Task 1 is quite simple as it is generally like an official application for job, leave, maintenance request etc. Task 2 is a bit more diverse as it may expect you to either support/be against an argument or discuss both sides of arguments on an issue while providing your own conclusions in the end. By reading vociferously, one can not only improve the vocabulary but also add a repertoire of ideas to a wide range of topics. I would suggest even using Quora to improve your writing.Speaking:8. The best way to practice for this is by watching videos of sample IELTS tests on YouTube. Except for your name, there is nothing else the examiners verify for authenticity. Stay honest and truthful but decorate your answers with a range of complex words and sentences. Practice speaking in front of the mirror while also recording your voice. At a minimum, try speaking for around 2 minutes on each one of these topics: best vacation you had, best gift you gave/received, most influential person in your life, one thing you would like to change in yourself/others, describe a house or building.Hope this helps!

Which are the best books for IELTS general training to Band 7 or 8?

Well… I always feel for the people who have to take IELTS General Training as there are always fewer general training reading tests. For example, The official cambridge guide (one of my favourite books) contains 8 listening tests (thank God they are the same for academic and general training modules), 8 academic reading tests and ONLY 2 general training tests… I think it’s unfair, but life is life…Here is the list of my go-to resources :)))) I’ve just answered almost the same question… So I’ve copied some part of it.Reading and listening:1) The Official Cambridge guide to IELTS (tips + 8 listening tests + 2 general training tests)2) Official Materials (1 listening test + 1 general training test)3) Official Materials - 2 (1 listening test + 1 general training test)4) Test Plus 1 (5 listening tests + 1 general training reading )5) Test Plus 2 (not sure… i guess there are 6 listening tests + 1 GT reading)6) Test Plus 3 (sorry… I don’t remember, but there’s, undoubtedly, only 1 reading)7) Cambridge 6-9 (4 listening tests + 2 gt reading tests)8) IELTSHELPNOW (10 listening tests + 10!!! general training readings)You can find all the books on the Internet.Speaking:1) IELTS SPEAKING ASSISTANT (a new application for Android and IOS smartphones which contains all current IELTS speaking topics, topical vocabulary, ideas for making excellent answers and model answers to each question) - you can download it on Google Play and the AppStore2) Vocabulary for IELTS by Rawdon Wyatt3) Cambridge vocabulary for IELTS by Pauline Cullen4) Vocabulary for IELTS ADVANCED by Pauline Cullen - you can get them on the InternetWriting (the most difficult part):www.ielts-blog.com (people share the topics)ielts-simon.com (good tips)IELTS Speaking Assistant | Facebook (posts dedicated to writing, but you’ll have to find them in the feed)GOOD ONLINE PLATFORMS:IELTS Online Exam Preparation | IELTS Sample Questions (when I run out of academic reading practice tests, I ask my students to visit this website, but I don’t remember if there are a lot of general training readings)Good luck!

Like most sites that offer small services with yearly or monthly subscriptions, you most likely run into the "auto renew subscription" headache. While it is frustrating (as this happened to me with CocoDoc), it is always nice to have a little forgiveness. Before I disputed the transaction with my bank I "calmly" contacted CocoDoc support asking if I could be refunded for this un-consented transaction of $72. It only took 5 mins with customer support to give me a full refund. And for that hasty/easy relief they gave me (as well as a refund with no questions asked) I give them 5 stars. Also, not to mention, it is a great PDF filling software.
