Back in the 70s, when I was in my 20s, I met a man, much older than me and we became friends and got to know his wife and all his wonderful kids. Al had an industrial chemical sales business. He invited me to him in it.I could see it would be a good opportunity if I worked hard at it and I’d have Al to guide and mentor me. I needed a loan and convinced my dad to cosign. Overjoyed I called Al and gave him the good news. I had the loan. All i needed was to get the contract signed.He had me meet him at his duplex on the northside of Milwaukee. I arrived and went upstairs to meet him. His wife Bonny was there with all their kids, and she told me he was down in the basement.I don’t think I was ever happier than I was as I climbed down those stairs. I could hear music and I thought it was fitting. I quickly found him enjoying a record. He turned it off. We completed the paper work. I was in business! He then gave me a tour, showing me his inventory. We discussed what I need for my first order, several thousand dollars worth for my personal inventory.Suddenly his downstairs neighbor appeared at the bottom of the stairs and started to rant at Al about his music which was now off and it was never loud in the first place. I was leaning against a support, maybe six feet away, not really believing the escalating argument.The neighbor pulled out a gun and emptied it into Al’s chest at point blank range. I was so shocked I was numb, frozen. In a moment the neighbor was gone and Al was nearly dead on the floor. Al’s friend came downstairs to try to help, but there was nothing we could do. He was gone in moments.It still haunts me, still feel that hollowness. I guess I’ll never forget, or get over it, even 45 years later.I tried to make it in the business, but I had no mentor. I failed. Al’s wife and kid survived somehow, though it wasn’t easy. Just thinking about this hurts.

Why is there no affirmative action for Asians?Thanks for the A2A.I think @John Gallagher provided a good answer to this.The only other thing I'd add is this.Affirmative Action was not something that was voluntarily given to people. It took years of protesting, marching, speeches, debates and people dying for us to get to this point.At least that was the case for Black people, White woman are the largest users of the program; but I can't speak to what their efforts were in this matter because I haven't followed the history.If you feel that there is an injustice being done to Asians then you have to figure out how to make this a known issue that people will rally on your side for.Honestly, I haven't seen large numbers of Asians that have expressed this as a major problem. But if it is…You're going to need to start by educating these groups to their own plight.Because they are the biggest blocker to Asian Affirmative Action right now.You can't go after non-Asians for not addressing this problem until you get enough Asians to agree that this is indeed a problem.Once they do get together on this issue, they need to do everything they can to bring light to the issue. Silently cosigning to the ‘model minority’ theory isn't going to get you there.Change demands action.
