Only the 'President” who was beginning to display the trappings of a mad dictator.Macron had said that Europeans must take a “clear and firm” stand not against “Turkey as a nation and people but with the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which has taken unacceptable actions”.[3]Clearly, Macron and Ergogan haven't been the best of pals especially considering that Macron has been making an effort to tone down religion, mainly Islam which was acquiring a radical influence in France.There's a proverb in Hindi that kind of implies that a new convert is more rigid in his practice of the religion (naya mullah zyaada pyaaz khaata hai).These countries which have clamouring for a boycott of French goods and France in general are the relatively more modern among the Islamic countries and these are the ones that have chosen to stand with the extremists who have opted to barbarian methods of protesting.Saudi Arabia, home to one of the holiest places of Islam has chosen to stand by France and condemn the acts of terrorism in the name of religion.Saudi Arabia has in the strongest terms condemned the beheading of the French school teacher - an act that nobody in their right senses should stand with no matter what their religious leanings.Yet, countries like Turkey and China chose to defend the actions of the barbaric perpetrators of the brutal killing of the school teacher and the other three innocent people who were similarly beheaded just to teach a lesson to those who would even so much as mock Islam.Countries take stands all the time for reasons best known to themselves and also based on ulterior motives that citizens who get pumped up to join have not the faintest clue about.This new world where ridicule is repaid with a death so brutal as to shake even the person reading about it, leave alone the ones close to the victim is frightening to say the least.Not just because a people are becoming so steeped in their own sense of how retribution is to be delivered but by the fact that as a person of fairly wide social contact, I have barely come across a smattering of posts unequivocally condemning a wrong.A person showing an offensive cartoon or publishing a cartoon cannot be beheaded.There's no justification. Period.It has to be condemned.No matter which God one proscribes to.It is wrong. And there are no two ways about it.Social media today scares me.The other day there was a question asking something to the effect, “Why don't you protest? What are you afraid of?”I almost wrote an answer about being afraid of this new world.This world filled with rage where it's not just a Turkey or a Pakistan. It's the streets of Mumbai where people are stomping on the poster of the French President and loudly calling for a boycott of French goods and France.After the beheadings of the school teacher and three other innocent people who just happened to be praying to another god.These people found no fault with the cruel men who mercilessly hacked to death real people with families and loved ones - people with their lives before them.Not a word. Zilch.These people thought it fit to boycott France but not a word against people from their “kaum” doing something that was not right in any world.These people are people we meet every day in our country. Not in Turkey. Not in Pakistan.Their country is not taking the line of Pakistan and Turkey - but some have chosen to take that stand.And as an Indian, I'm very frightened.Because we are witnessing the death of humanity.This is not Turkey or Pakistan.
