I recently saw the Rail MADAD website and noticed a number of problems being faced by our customers. Problems center around hygiene, unauthorised vendors, punctuality, quality of food, linen, and booking tickets, etc.While I was happy to see our customers using the platform for giving useful feedback I want to reiterate that Indian Railways stands firmly committed to resolving all the issues and providing the best in class service to its esteemed customers.Let me share with you what Indian Railways is doing for resolving some of the most genuine issues faced by our travellers.Booking tickets is an issue● Overhauled the IRCTC booking website into a modern and slick interface. This has created a more friendly and enjoyable experience for all its passengers. Some features of the new booking website are the following:○ Time Saving; Improved Viewing; Improved filtering of train categories; Introduction of Waitlist Prediction; Single Screen Information; New Filters on ‘My Transactions’; Multi-Tasking; Multi-Platform UsageUnclean and Unhygienic● Mechanised cleaning provided at 488 Railway stations and will be extended to another 97 major stations by March, 2019● Independent third party survey of passenger perception on cleanliness standards of 407 railway stations done in 2016 & 2017● On Board Housekeeping Service (OBHS) provided in more than 980 pairs of trains (Rajdhani, Shatabdi & other important long distance Mail/Express trains)● ‘Coach Mitra’ Service provided in nearly 800 OBHS trains as a single window interface to register all coach related requirements such as cleaning, disinfection, linen, train lighting, air conditioning & watering of coachesMechanised Cleaning of StationsMechanised Cleaning of TrainsPunctuality of trains● For improving Punctuality of trains efficiency timetabling is being implemented○ General Managers (GMs) advised to make Plan For Blocks for one year○ GMs to also holistically plan Weekly Integrated Corridor Traffic Blocks for maintenance● Real Time Train Information Systems being implemented through the use of satellites, ensuring passengers and station masters are informed of any delays● All Zonal Railways to monitor arrival and departure of trains with data loggers. The devices are being used at 41 stations across India and the punctuality of almost 80% of mail/express trains are being monitored through this system● Some of the actions taken have resulted in improved punctuality of trains from 60% in April-June'18 to 70% this monthQuality of Food● New Catering Policy issued on February, 2017: IRCTC has been mandated to create a distinction primarily between food preparation and food distribution● Twitter handle @IRCATERING has been made operational for complaints/suggestions pertaining to catering services● Live streaming of kitchen to ensure quality is maintained and vendor names are being printed on food for increased accountability● MENU on Rails App will help in creating awareness among Railway passengers about food items available and priceUnauthorised Vendors and Ticket sellers● Joint & independent checks by commercial, vigilance & security departments to curb activities of touts● Increased checks during peak hour and festival periods. Touts and unauthorized vendors will be prosecuted as per Section 143 & 144 of Railways Act, 1989● Deployment of RPF staff at important Passenger Reservation System Centres● CCTV surveillance systems to monitor activities of touts & unauthorized vendorsCCTV MonitoringDirty linen● Washing of bed linen is done after every single use● 59 mechanized laundries set up covering nearly 65% of linen washing requirement● Sample checking of washed linen is done before dispatch from laundryRegular inspections are carried out by officers & supervisors for compliance to the norms for washing of linen itemsMechanised Washing of LinenBy focussing and adopting some of these solutions, Indian Railways is ensuring that every passenger has a comfortable and relaxed journey.
