What is your review of The University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell)?
I was an International student at UML. I got both an Engineering degree ( Francis college of Engineering) & a management degree ( Manning business school). Overall it's a decent University.Some professors are really good & few are really worst, seriously despite the fact they have their high qualifications but still, they can’t teach and can take questions.As an international student, there are very limited job opportunities for international students. I have seen many well paying and desk jobs are reserved for US citizen students only like in Recreation center, Costello, Lab assistance in Arts college at the south campus, etc. I know because they even rejected my application & ultimately many foreign students like myself are left with no choice to work at the Fox dining hall, cleaning tables, chairs, dishes, work for Aramark, work at Arena as a janitor sweeping & moping floors, cleaning toilets, etc.As an international student, it's not worth going to UMass Lowell & wasting over $50k if you’re seeking to start a professional career after college. There are very few opportunities, no supporting programs for foreign students even in the presence of ISSO. Plus outside the campus, full-time jobs are very hard to get since most US companies reject job applications if a candidate needs a visa sponsorship like H1b. So don’t waste your skills, and money coming to the USA. The immigration policies are very hard & unwelcoming.

At ARAMARK, 125,000 employees in 21 countries, this is how screening worked when I was there:Resumes that were sent to me from someone within the organization were looked at immediately. I recommend you focus at least half of your job search effort to network within the organization. It is an almost sure bet that your resume will be reviewed closely if sent to a recruiter or hiring manager in this manner.Applicants that apply to the company career website were sorted by the applicant tracking system. I created screening questions for each position on the system that were “must haves” for the position. I would look at applicants that met most or all of the “must haves”. If you do not meet at least 4/5ths of the “must have” qualifications, I did not look at your resume. I would peek at a small sampling of other resumes that did not meet the “must haves” just to be sure the questionnaire was working as intended.I would search for candidates on-line on my own using search language to find potential candidates at competitors, similar fields, etc. I would find these candidates through professional association membership lists, articles written/cited, employer career websites that listed people in leadership, LinkedIn—I reach out to these passive candidates to see if they may be interested in learning more about the position. I was most proud of these candidates as I found them so would put these candidates on the top of a stack when presenting to a hiring manager—it would be a huge feather in my cap that I found someone that the company hired. I recommend you spend time to ensure you can be found this way and that nothing negative is on the internet about you.We often used a trusted headhunter/executive recruiter to supplement all of these efforts. Resumes that came from our executive recruiter were looked at immediately. This is another area which I recommend. It is almost as golden as coming from someone within the company.
