What will happen after the SVPNPA for an IPS officer?

Why aren’t soldiers commonly issued handguns/sidearms as backup weapons?

There are a number of good reasons for this:More guns = more money. The military has a limited budget.Different guns = more training. There is only so much time in a day and so many days in a year. Many units lack white space on their training calendars as it is.More guns = more weight. Ounces equal pounds and pounds equals pain. For less weight, a soldier could carry more ammo for their primary weapon, more water, energy bars, or something else that is more likely to be useful. Most soldiers will never even fire their primary weapon in combat much less need a backup.Handguns are mostly useless in combat. Unless this is CQB and the enemy is 5 meters away from you (ok a slight exaggeration but the point is you’re only using it effectively at close targets), it’s not going to do you much good. I’ve watched someone attempt to engage 400 meter targets with a pistol. It didn’t work.A soldier is almost always better off fixing whatever is wrong with their primary weapon than transitioning to a handgun.A handgun mostly gets used as a FOB weapon. It’s something light that you can carry when you go to the gym or chow hall so you don’t have to haul your rifle.

Why can’t an E-8 become a drill sergeant in the army?

Why can’t an E-8 become a drill sergeant in the army?Because an E-8 in a basic training company would be the company First Sergeant. As the 1SG, they are not handling the day-to-day training. That is the job of the drill sergeants (typically SSG-SFC though there are some SGTs).This mirrors operational units. The 1SG is concerned with company-level items. They’re looking at the training calendar to ensure the unit is up on its METL tasks. They’re ensuring soldiers have adequate food, sleeping arrangements, etc. They’re usually not the ones directly conducting training. That falls on platoon sergeants and below (SFC, SSG, SGT, sometimes CPL).
