Look at the irony. They are asking for farm loan waiver. But, each of them has ₹ 25,000 to pay for the security deposit to contest MP election which they are sure to lose as none of them would be able to get more than one sixth of the valid votes polled.Moreover, they have money to travel from Tamil Nadu (as they are from Tamil Nadu) to Varanasi to file their nomination papers; spend money on filling in the complicated nomination forms and detailed affidavits; and then spend money to live in Varanasi for few days and do their gimmicks to attract media attention.Each of these 100 farmers will also need 10 proposers each (i.e., a total of 1000 at least) for their nomination forms, who have to be local electors. This is the requirement of law under Section 33 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, since they are NOT filing nomination as candidates of any recognized political party (at least, not all of them).So, who will arrange 1000 local electors to sign their nomination papers in Varanasi, since these so-called farmers are from Tamil Nadu? It is not easy to get so many people without spending money if you are an outsider where nobody knows you. For example, if I go to Tamil Nadu and seek 10 local electors to become proposers for my nomination papers, nobody will oblige me as nobody knows me. Particularly in a single constituency.Therefore, what about expenses of arranging so many proposers and other related expenses of staying in Varanasi during the election period as they want to show their protest in media?Remember, these farmers appear to be the same persons who were earlier doing everything under the Sun to attract media attention in Delhi. They spent months in Delhi. On whose support?Where does this money come from? And, where do other support and arrangements come from?If they are really that resourceful farmers, then why do they want farm loan waiver?In fact, farm loan waiver or other benefits to farmers have recently been granted in most places.So, clearly, some political party (or somebody else) is sponsoring these so-called farmers to contest elections in Varanasi against PM Modi.Their contesting the election has to be seen in this context. It is a fixed match.Update (24 March 2019): It may also lead to some serious logistic problems because I understand that a maximum of 64 candidates can be accommodated in an EVM (Electronic Voting Machine), and that too by connecting 4 balloting units in parallel with 16 names on each unit. If the number of candidates is more than 64, then the traditional method of paper ballot may have to be adopted. This will mean unnecessary inconvenience and unnecessary expenses on polling to be committed by the election commission.
